What are the QuintusVisuals
for TIBCO Spotfire®?
A spider plot, also known as a radar plot, is a diagram
in the form of a web that is used to indicate the relative
influence of different parameters. This is usually done
when there are more than three factors that can influen-
ce a result. Spider plots can be used to show the diffe-
rent causes of a problem situation. The factors that have
most influence are mainly located on the periphery of the
web and parameters that have little influence on problem
situations are located at the web’s centre.
A cascade plot shows the make up of a result in a one
phase shift. This is presented as a histogram that shows
the starting and final situations with ascending or des-
cending steps in between. The cascade plot is normally
used to understand how an initial value is influenced by a
series of interim positive or negative values. In this, the
starting and final values are represented by full columns
while the values in between are shown as floating
columns. The columns are colour coded to distinguish
between positive and negative values. A cascade plot
can be used for analytical purposes and in particular for
understanding or explaining the gradual transition of the
quantitative value of an entity that is subject to
increase or decrease.
It can, for example, be used to visualise the profit/loss
account that is produced by the total incomes from diffe-
rent sources in a later decrement of all costs.
Dashboard objects (Speed dial and traffic light)
A dashboard consists of a number of graphs, plots and
tables that are generally financial and reproduce informa-
tion or key performance indicators in a logical, structured
way. A dashboard is also often compared to your car’s
cockpit, which also uses metres, counters and warning
lights to give you a clear overview of your car’s status.
This enables you to see at a glance what the state of
affairs is. The QuintusVisuals provided here make it pos-
sible to build an attractive dashboard in Spotfire® which
gives you a clear overview of your targets and whether
or not they are still attainable. The status of the metres is
shown by using minimum and maximum values (KPI
values) that you have defined in advance.
The QuintusVisuals have been programmed using the
functions in the Spotfire SDK and so are, of course, fully
compatible with the Spotfire application itself.
Why the QuintusVisuals?
The QuintusVisuals are an optimum way to visualise your
data. They give you more options for visualising your data
in multiple views. You gain perspective and understan-
ding of your data. Connecting the dots becomes more
visible that would possibly have remained hidden in your
data otherwise. The QuintusVisuals are fully integrated
and completely compatible with the standard visualisa -
tions that you already know in Spotfire. Every user
within your organisation can easily use QuintusVisuals
without having to take a course. Complimentary, docu-
mentation is provided with each installation for ease of
use and easy usability.
Who are the users
of the QuintusVisuals?
Are you a Spotfire® user? Do you work at a management
level within your organisation and also make decisions
using Spotfire analyses? Do you want to convince your
organisation or your clients of your findings? Are you a
project manager and do you want to know which projects
give you the best returns? In many business choices it is
crucial to have a deep understanding of your data and be
able to visualise it precisely. As the well-known saying
goes, “A picture says a thousand words”.
