Violations of the Turkish Army in Rojava
Introduction:
According to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
proclaimed on 10 December 1948 by General Assembly resolution 217(III) A
, and what is mentioned in the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from
Being Subjected to Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment
or Punishment adopted by the General Assembly resolution 3452 (XXX) on 9
December 1975, and the four Geneva Conventions relative to the protection of
civilian persons in time of war in 1949 and the additional protocols of 1979 .
Accordingly, it is the right of individuals and groups to sue whoever violates the
agreed upon laws and principles and agreements by the international
community to protect them and preserve their rights, especially those fleeing
from areas of conflict and war whether civilians or soldiers , by legal or illegal
ways through ports or international borders.
We observed and documented scores of cases of beating and killing of civilians
on the Turkish-Syrian border by the Turkish border guards. Therefore, out of
moral responsibility and our legal and jurist commitment to the principles and
laws of the international and humanitarian community ,we decided to submit
this file to the relevant international bodies .

Al-Jazeera Canton
Beating civilians cases
2015
Case (1)
Name: Muath Ayman Abo Rizma from Damascus born on 1986
Date and place of the incident : at 10:00 pm on 21/1/2015 in Til Aylloul
village near to Al-Darbasiyah city.
Mr. Muath Ayman Abo Rizma came from Damascus to go to Turkey, escaping
from the ongoing clashes in his region, and in Til Aylloul village in Al-Darbasiyah
city in Rojava ( Northern Syria) while trying to cross Turkish- Syrian borders, he
was captured and beaten by Turkish gendarmes which led to fractures in his
nose, as well as severe damage in his body, after that they threw him on the
Syrian side of the borders.

Case (2)
Name: Hani Almuheimeed
Date and place of the incident : on 13/7/2015 in Al-Arrada village in Abo
Rasin township.
He was beaten by Turkish gendarmes, when he was trying to cross the borders
and he was taken to Abo Rasin medical clinic, he suffered several bruises and
injuries in his body as the doctor stated.

Case (3)
Name : Sheikhmoos Ahmad Jameel–from Al-Darbasiyah born on 1958
Date and place of the incident : on 19/10/2015 in Sherk village in Al-
Darbasiyah city.
He was captured and beaten by Turkish gendarmes while trying to cross the
borders ,which led to fractures in his head and was stabbed in his left side of the
waist, after beating him they threw him on the Syrian side of the borders.
Then the police forces (Asayish) took him to Al-Ali hospital in Al-Darbasiyah city
and provided him with first aid then it was obvious that he had severe fractures
in the head, a knife stab and damages in several parts in his body according to
the doctor.

2016
Case (1)
Name: Akeed Mahmoud Dalal born on 1982- Amuda
Date and place of the incident : on 16/2/2016 on the borderline near to
Tirwazi village in Amuda city.
On 16/2/2016 Akeed Mahmoud Dalal tried to go to Turkey by crossing the
borders near to Tirwazi village, but Turkish gendarmes captured him and beat
him by the soles of their weapons on his head and body, then they threw him on
the Syrian side of the borders, and after providing him first aid it showed that
there are bruises in his head and the rest of his body due to the beating
according to the specialist doctor.

Case (2)
Name: Muhammad Nour Mansour born on 1989 in Damascus city
Date and place of incident : on 7/3/2016 on the borderline near to Hamdoun
village in Amuda city.
Muhammad Nour Mansour escaped from the armed conflict in his region to go to
Turkey.
In Hamdoun village in Amuda city, while trying to cross the borders he was
captured by Turkish gendarmes who beat him on his head, tore his clothes and
all his identification papers, and threw him naked on the borders.
After applying first aid the specialist doctor said that he had many bruises on his
head and body.

Case (3)
Name: Muhammad Baha Alnahar born on 1995 from Aniq Alhawa
Date and place of the incident : at 05:00 am on 24/5/2016 in Chatal village in
Al-Darbasiyah city.
Muhammad Baha Alnahar who came from Til-Tamer countryside to go to
Turkey for work, because of his difficult living conditions, and while he tried to
cross the borders in Chatal village, Turkish gendarmes captured him and beat
him then threw him on the Syrian side of the borders, after first aid it showed
that he had bruises in his head, back , feet and a broken lower jaw.

Case (4)
Name: Ibrahim Mahmoud Al-khadir born on 1994 in Khirbat Sodda village
Date and place of the incident : at 05:00 am on 24/5/2016 in Chatal village in
Al-Darbasiyah city.
Ibrahim Mahmoud Al-khidir came from Til-Tamer countryside to work in
Turkey due to his difficult living conditions.
In Chatal village in Rojava ( Northern Syria) while he tried to cross the borders,
he was captured by Turkish gendarmes, and they threw him on the Syrian side
of the borders after he was beaten by them.
After first aid the doctor said that Ibrahim Al-khidir has many contusions on his
head, back , feet and his eyes were exposed to severe bruises.

Case (5)
Name: Haydar Muhammad Khalaf born on 1995 – Sari Kani
Date and place of the incident : 29/7/2016 on the Turkish borders adjacent to
Sari Kani city.
Haydar Muhammad Khalaf wanted to go to Turkey to work there, and while
trying to cross Syrian-Turkish borders , Turkish gendarmes captured him, beat
him and burned his clothes, ID and some important papers, because they found a
picture of his brother wearing YPG clothes in his mobile phone, then they
expelled him to Rojava, as he was taken to Roj hospital in Sari Kani city.
Haydar Muhammad Khalaf had violence marks on his back and belly according
to the specialist doctor.

Ahmad Rajab Al-Abdullah born on 1998 - Deir Al-zor
Bashar Khalaf Al-Abdullah born on 2002 - Deir Al-zor
Joumaa Haj Alraheel born on 1990 - Deir Al-zor
Nazeer Khalaf Tahin born on 1998 - Deir Al-zor
Date and place of the incident : on 11/8/2016 on the Turkish borders between
Mabrouka region and Til- Khanzeer in the western side of Sari Kani city.
Those young men came from Deir Al zor city and Manbij, aiming to work in
Turkey after crossing the borders, but Turkish gendarmes made them an
ambush, then they closed their eyes and handcuffed them, started to beat them
with fists, sticks and kicks, insulting them as well .The Turkish gendarmes threw
them on Syrian border then police forces (Asayish) took them to Roj hospital to
be treated, where the medical examiner said that they have varying injuries like:
fractures in the feet, hands and joints with several bruises in their bodies.

Name: Abd Khalaf Al-Hanoush born on 1994 in Deir Al-zor
Date and place of the incident: on 12/9/2016 in Abo Alsson village in the
western countryside of Sari Kani city.
While he was crossing the borders with a group, He was beaten and tortured
and wounded by Turkish gendarmes, then they threw him on the Syrian side of
the borders, where police forces ( Asayish) took him to Roj hospital in Sari Kani.
The damages: he was beaten severely, injuries in several parts of his body and
malformation in the face.

Name : Abdulaziz Al-Muhammad Bin Omar , born on 1992 in Al-Hasakah city.

Name: Hussein Al-our Ali, born on 16/3/1992 from Nashwa Gharbiya in Al-
Hasakah city.
Name: (In the middle )Hussein Abdul Rahman Muhammad, born on 2/4/1982
in Al-Hasakah city.

Names: Ali Waleed Muhammad born on 2002 from Qamishlo city
Fayiz Hassan Ahmad born on 1996 from Nashwa Kharbiya in Al-Hasakah city.
Date and place of the incident: on 3/9/2016 on the borders between Sari Kani
and Ceylan Pinar city.
The damages: several injuries in the body and torture marks on their face and
body caused by using sharp tools such as sticks, the soles and barrels of their
weapons.
While they were crossing the borders they were captured by Turkish gendarmes
in an ambush, where they were beaten severely, tortured, and they took their
money and mobile phones. One of injured was tortured more than the others
because the gendarmes thought he was a Kurd .

2016
Case (1)
Name: Adnan Khalaf Al-zuhedan born on 1999 in Raj'an village in Sari Kani city
Date and place of the incident : on 12/1/2016 in Raj'an village in the western
countryside of Sari Kani city, he was shot and wounded in his right leg, where he
was taken to Roj hospital for treatment.

Case (2)
Name: Yaseen Muhammad Al-Husayn, born on 1993 in Misherfa village in Sari
Kani
Date and place of the incident : at 1:00 pm on 3/2/2016 in Misherfa village.
He stated that he went to herd the sheep as usual near to Syrian-turkish borders,
then Turkish gendarmes shot him directly in his right leg which led him to fall, at
that time police forces (Asayish) took him to Roj hospital in Sari Kani to treat
him, where he underwent a surgery to extract the bullet.

Case (3)
Name: Ibrahim Abdallah Sayid Rasoul born on 1997 in Bab Salama
Date and place of the incident:18/2/2016 Batirzan village in Girke Lage
Turkish army shot the people of Batirzan village in Girke Lage, who went to
farm their lands. One bullet hit Ibrahim Sayid Rasoul in his waist then he was
taken to the hospital.
He said in the attached video that he went with his uncle to his field which is far
from the borders about 300 meters, to spray the agricultural pesticides, but the
Turkish army shot them directly, then he was taken to the hospital by his uncle.

Case (4)
Name: Ahmad Hamoud Alhusayn
Date and place of the incident : on 7/3/2016 on the borderline between Al-
Arrada village and Al-Aliya located on the road between Al-Darbasiyah and Sari
Kani cities.
He was shot on his right shoulder while he tried to cross the borders, then was
thrown on the Syrian side of the borders, he was hospitalized by the villagers to
Dari hospital in Amuda city due to the lack of medical kits in Al-Darbasiyah and
Sari Kani cities. Now he is in a stabilized condition according to the doctor in the
hospital.

Case (5)
Name: Imar Safwat Al-Husayn born on 1990 from Deir Al-zor, living in Qamishlo
city.
Date and place of the incident : on 15/4/2016 in Almattla village in the
eastern countryside of Sari Kani city.
Imar Alhusein came to the region to go to turkey to reunite with her family . She
tried to cross the borders in Almattla village where Turkish gendarmes shot her,
and she was wounded in her leg. Then a police force (Asayish) patrol of Sari Kani
took her to Roj hospital .
The specialist doctor said that the leg bone was crushed and we did the needed
procedures.

Case (6)
Name: Kawthar Muhammad Junnayd born on 2001 in Til-halaf in Sari Kani
Date and place of the incident : on 14/5/2016 in Til-halaf village in Sari Kani
While herding the sheep 700 meters far from the borders, Turkish gendarmes
shot her legs, where she was taken to Roj hospital for treatment, and the
specialist doctor explained that she has a gunshot wound in both her legs with
major skin loss.
Case (7)
Name: Amer Raddad Kati' born on 1982 – Abo Manasib village
Date and place of the incident : on 2/8/2016 in Ein Dewar village.

The shepherd Amer said that at 3:00 he was 200 meters far from the borders
when a car of Turkish army came with seven soldiers and they started shooting
at him. He was wounded in his leg as well as four sheeps.
Then a patrol of border guards came and rescued him to Derik hospital. He is in
a good condition now after having surgery .
Anti-Organized Crime office of (Asayish) and the forensic doctor report which
confirms that the shepherd Amir Katie was wounded by Turkish army weapons
on 2/8/2016.

Case (8)
Name: Hurreya Ahmad Al-hawam born on 1986 in Bumass'a village.
Name of the baby : Nadeya Salih born on 2015 in Deir Al-zor city.
Date and place of the incident: on 20/8/2016 in Khirbat Aljoz region in Tal
Khanzeer village in Sari Kani countryside.
While she was trying to cross the borders with her baby to Turkey in khirbat
Aljoz region in Tal Khanzeer village in Sari Kani countryside, Turkish gendarmes
shot at her then a patrol of police forces ( Asayish) took her to Roj hospital . She
was wounded lightly in her chest and she was treated.
The baby was wounded lightly in her face.

Case (9)
Name: Ilias Hamza Homid born on 1994 in Deir Al-zor city
Date and place of the incident: on 20/8/2016 in khirbat Aljoz region in Tal
Khanzeer village in the countryside of Sari Kani city.
He was shot by Turkish gendarmes while crossing the borders , he was wounded
in his hand then a patrol of police forces(Asayish) took him to Roj hospital in
Sari Kani city.

Case (10)
Name: Malka Qasim born on 1999 in Deir Al-Zor city.
Date and place of the incident: on 5/9/2016 at 2:00 am in Um Al-Saharij
village 70 km west of Sari Kani city.
They were shot by Turkish gendarmes while they were crossing the borders.
The shooting caused wounded and dead including children.
Damages: she got wounded by three bullets in the neck, belly and her leg and
she was treated in Roj hospital in Sari Kani city.

Killing Civilians Cases :
Case (1)

Name : Hamza Abdul Rahman Dawud from Al-Darbasiyah 1994.
Date and Time of the incident : Monday 5/9/2016 , Al-Khashafya village on the
main road between Al-Darbasiyah and Amuda .
Hamza Abdul Rahman Dawud and a group of his co-workers rented a car to go
from Al-Darbasiyah to Amuda .On the main road next to Alkhashafya village
close to a Turkish border point about 30 meters , a Turkish soldier shot a bullet
at the rented car which hit Hamza in the left shoulder causing immediate death
according to witnesses and the forensic doctor's report .

Case (2)
Name: Hassan Ali Fattas born on 1991 in Sari Kani
Date and place of the incident : 11/7/2016 in Sari Kani 700 meters near the
borders.
Turkish gendarmes targeted him in front of his house in Sari Kani near the
borders where he was shot dead then he was taken to Roj hospital in Sari Kani
city, the specialist doctor stated that the cause of death was a heart failure
immediately after being shot by the sniper's bullet.

Case (3)
Name: Khalil Dawoud Mahsiko born on 1996 in Sari Kani
Date and place of the incident: 31/7/2016 on the Turkish borders near Sari
Kani city.
When he was coming back from Turkey to Syria in the adjacent region to Sari
Kani city, while crossing Syrian borders , he was captured by a group of Turkish
gendarmes consisted of five members, who started to beat him, then shot three
bullets at his testicles because they found pictures of the Kurdish leader
Abdullah Ocalan in his mobile phone.
Khalil was taken to Roj hospital and the doctor said that cause of death was a
severe bleeding .

Name: Daleel Bashar Darbas born on 1992 in Al-Alliya village in Al-Darbasiyah
city.
Date and place of the incident : at 11:00 pm on 16/5/2016 in Al-Alliya village
in Al-Darbasiyah city.
He emigrated because of his difficult living conditions , and while crossing the
Turkish borders he was captured by Turkish gendarmes , who beat him and shot
him in his left eye, which was the cause of death then they threw him on the
Syrian side of the borders.

Name: Ammar Muhammad Bakir born on 2000 in Raj'an village in Sari Kani
city.
Date and place of the incident : 12/1/2016 in Rajaan village in the western
countryside of Sari Kani city.
While returning from Turkey and crossing borders, he was shot in his chest by
Turkish gendarmes which caused his death.
Case (6)
Name: Aisha Mahmoud Khalil
Date and place of the incident : in Hilleewa village in Al-Darbasiyah city.

In Hilleewa village in Rojava ,while crossing the Turkish borders the gendarmes
shot her in the left kidney , she bled for three hours until she lost her life, then
the Turkish gendarmes threw her on the Syrian side of the border, at that time
Asayish forces took her to Al-Ali hospital in Al-Darbasiyah city.
She was shot in her left kidney and bled for three hours and that was the cause
of death according to the doctor.
Case (7)
Name: Awayad Ahmad Al-Ahmad born on 1981 in Deir Al-Zor city.
Date and place of the incident: at 2:00 am on 5/9/2016 in Um Al-Saharij
village 70 km west of Sari Kani city.
While he was crossing the borders Turkish gendarmes shot at him directly
which caused his death.
Damages: shots in his shoulder and chest which led to immediate death.

Name: Rojeen Awayad Al-Ahmad born on 2011 in Deir Al Zor city, daughter of
Awayad Ahmad Al-Ahmad (case 7).
Date and place of the incident: at 2:00 am on 5/9/2016 in Um Al-Saharij
village 70 km west of Sari Kani city.
While she was crossing the borders with her father Turkish gendarmes shot at
them.
Damages: a shot in her waist which led to her death immediately.

Case (9)
Name: Ahmad Ali Al-Ali born on 1996 in Aleppo
Date and place of the incident: on 12/9/2016 in Abo-Alsson village in the
western countryside of Sari Kani city.
While he was trying to cross the Turkish borders with some people to work
there, Turkish gendarmes set an ambush for them, they captured him, beat and
tortured him severely which led to his death, then the gendarmes threw him on
the Syrian side of the borders, at that time the police forces ( Asayish) took him
to Roj hospital in Sari Kani city.
Ahmad Al-Ali had severe bleeding due to the beaten and he lost his life before
reaching the hospital.

The video shows Turkish army with an engineer and a translator to put marking
points for the barrier on the borderline in Banokiya, Sermsakh, Batirzan and Ein
Diwar villages.
Video (2)
The video shows the sounds of Turkish army's gunshots shooting the protestors
in Sermsakh village who were gathered protesting against Turkey's attempt to
occupy Rojava territories.
Video (3)
People of Sermsakh and Ein Diwar villages are talking about building a cement
wall by Turkish government inside Syrian lands, and cutting a lot of lands, even
not allowing the owners of those lands to go near for about 400 meters, shooting
at them.They also talked about their attempt to prevent Turkish army from

taking the lands with no avail and that the soldiers said their orders to take the
lands came from higher authorities.
The people explained their suffer of not being able to plant their lands, fearing
the shooting of Turkish army at them, as happened previously and caused the
injuring and death of some people.
In the video obvious images of the wall in Sermsakh village which is 6 km long
and 200 meters inside Syrian territories.

Mr. Abdul Rahman is from Sermsakh village since 70 years, and depends on his
land to live, but now his land has been divided to almost two parts by the
Turkish army.

Killing civilians on the borders
Case (1)
Bozan Haji Nazo was shot dead by Turkish army in the head on the borderline in
Kobane Canton, while thwarting Turkish gendarmes attempt to occupy Rojava
lands on 2/9/2016.

borderline in Kobane canton, when Turkish gendarmeries tried to occupy
Rojava's lands on 2/9/2016.

Afrin Canton
Beating civilians
Case (1)

When Ameen Hasko 20 years, Muhammad Hasko 17 years, Qahraman Hasko 21
years, and Muhammad Hasko 28 years old tried to return from Turkey to Afrin
city, the Turkish army tortured and beat them severely on the borders.
The young men tried to cross the borders to Afrin from Ali kara village which
subtends Islah city in Turkey.

Transgressing lands
Case (1)
Date and place of the incident : on 1 August 2016 Turkish army transgressed
300 meters from Bikke village in Bilbela town of Afrin canton, and uprooted
more than 80 trees.

Case (2)
Turkish army set fire on the borders between Afrin canton and Turkey which
burned 10 hectares of wheat crop belonging to Ameen Ismaiel from Mamoolo
village in Rajo town in Afrin.
And Turkish border guards also set fire to the lands between Sorka village and
Midan Ikbes village in Rajo town on the border along 15 km, and caused the
burning of 10 hectares of wheat crop in Nabie Batman region, which is owned by
Ameen Ismaiel from Mamoolo village.

Case (3)
Members of Turkish border guards set fire the agricultural lands at Al-auzri
point in Bilbela town in Afrin city on 6/9/2016.
Video (1)
Turkish authorities continue building a cement wall on the borders with Kurdish
regions in Syria, including its borders with Afrin city. The video shows Turkish
machinery performing building operations with the Black river appearing
behind the wall as well.
This wall has a height of 3 meters with security cameras and spotlights.
Building this wall which extends from Bikke village in Bilbil township to
Hammam village in Jindrees township will cause the deprivation from Black
river's water (which stems from Turkey ) in the plains of (Midan Ikbes, Sorkiyh
and Shadeeyah) village.
