Insight # 1: While industry level organic growth stalls, funds continue to flow into defensive and income oriented sectors. Passive and active.

Insight #2: Separate accounts and wholesale funds are the key structures for sourcing super fund exposure. Opportunity: A dual channel strategy of institutional and wholesale increases manager’s propensity to participate across the critical market segments. The wholesale trust also opens up the opportunity to exploit the rising growth of SMSF segment.

Insight # 3: Shifting membership demographics of certain super funds (aging), falling contributions relative to asset total nets assets and widespread allocations to valuation rich, sector specific strategies (example listed property) means there is a strong pent-up demand for a well balanced, defensive equity strategy within the Growth segment of superannuation portfolios.
