Sight Committee The Lions Sight Foundation of Clark County met on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Participating were 11 Lions from 7 clubs. We received 47 appli-cations for exams and glasses this month. 11 applications were denied: 7 needed more information; 3 non-residents; and 1 was too soon. A to-tal of 36 applications were reviewed and approved for exams and glasses. The Foundation will be hosting our annual fundraising auction on April 21, 2012 at Club Green Meadows. We are currently seeking do-nations and auction items.

Annual Membership Dinner Meeting Friday, February 17th will be the date of our annual Membership dinner meeting. It will be at 6:30 at the Lexington House. The address there is 2610 SE 164th Avenue. It will be a fun evening as we will be formally in-ducting our new members into our club. If you a new member and have not been through this induction, please try to attend. FT. VANCOUVER LIONS BOARD OF DIRECTORS DECEMBER MEETING The Board meets the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month at 10:30 – Bill’s Chicken Inn. The meetings are open to all FVL members. Following is a condensed version of the meeting. Complete copies of the minutes may be obtained by contacting Secretary Chriss Denny [email protected] December 2nd 2011 Correspondence: Thank you letters for FVL donations: Friends of the Carpenter, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Washington School for the Blind Foundation.

Business for Action:

Vancouver Lions/HVAC Donation: Vancouver Lions are calling in the pledges from area clubs to help with the HVAC donation for the Piano Hospital. Steve will make the payment according to the Board vote in January 2011 ($2,000.)

Membership Dinner/New Members: Roy stated the Membership Dinner will be held in February of 2012. Two applications for member-ship were presented: Brian McKay (Sponsor Charissa Steinmann) and Russell Ivey (Sponsor Adam Hegewald.) Ralph moved to accept the applications, Len seconded the motion and it passed unanimously

Left Over Items from Previous Meetings:

Health Screening Unit: Steve reported that this project went smoothly and 1355 students had their hearing checked (some children had their sight tested.) Other schools have requested this service and Steve will check with various Lions Clubs to request their help.

Bag Folding: Lee reported that 140,000+ bags were folded to be inserted in the Columbian newspaper. Our Club furnished coffee, pop and water for the volunteers at a cost of $127.55. Items that were not used were left to be used on Walk and Knock Collection Satur-day.

Walk and Knock: Steve reported that he has received all of the supplies and has plenty of volunteers. Adam stated that he needs more volunteers, as a group of workers have been switched to another area.

Cookies Delivered to First Responders: Chriss reported that the homemade cookies which were delivered to a local fire station and it’s satellite station (Wednesday, November 30 was National First Responders Day) were well received and appreciated by the firefighters.

Santa Store: Lee reported plans for the Santa Store are right on target. In the last few days the committee has spent $830 on gifts for children to bring our inventory to the number of items needed. The school secretary reports that the schedule is developed.

Secret Santa: The school Resources Coordinator, Jennifer, has requested that we sponsor (provide gifts for) a family of five (father, mother and 3 children.) It was determined that we would ask the members to do this as we have in the past. The members can either submit money for the gifts, or buy gifts and give them to Lee Denny. The gifts need to be delivered to Washington School the week of December 12. We set a limit of $30.00 per person and with any leftover money we will provide a food basket/box.

Christmas Luncheon: The Christmas lunch will be on December 16, at the Clark County Skill Center at 12:00 noon for a cost of $13.00 (complimentary meals will not be furnished for this meal.) Hallie has lined up a singing group to sing traditional carols for entertain-ment.

Bell Ringing: Bruce and Nancy Preece will chair this project. A sign-up list will be circulated today. We will be at Fred Meyer (Orchards store) on December 8th and 9th. Many volunteers are needed.

NW Lions Leadership Institute: Dotty Scott and Sandy Foster are now registered for the leadership institute to take place next spring.

New Members: Helen suggested that we order Lions Club shirts, vests, jackets and hats for new members that may want them (January 2012.)

CEP Follow-up: Helen reported we are going to partner with the Washington Elementary School PTO organization to plan a family event for the families of the students before the end of the school year. Also, our own Club will plan a family event for families of our mem-bers before the end of our fiscal year (June 30.)

It was the consensus of the Board that a second Board Meeting in December is not necessary. Therefore, our next Board Meeting will be January 6, 2012.

Respectfully submitted,

Chriss Denny, Secretary
