boilers, incinerators, window &

splitair-conditioners, submersible

pumps etc. Based on

Page 11: FORTIS HOSPITAL, BANNERGHATTA - knowledgeplatform.in...Fortis Hospital, Bannergatta Road, Bangalore is a multi-specialty tertiary care hospital. The hospital commenced operations in

373

recommendations of internal energy audit, 250 KVAR Automatic Power Factor

Corrective Panel was installed for catering low PF feeders. This has resulted in

substantial saving of 2.47 Lakh units in the last financial year.

1. Majority of luminaries in Central Hospital were 40 W Fluorescent Lamps. A

drive was launched to replace such energy-inefficient fittings by 1X28 T5 or

2X28 T5 fittings. Total 245 such fittings were provided at various locations of

hospital in place of old single or double T-12/T8 fittings during 2013-14,

resulting net saving of 0.73 Lakh units of electricity.

2. Central hospital was equipped with old fashioned rheostatic fan-regulators

which were contributing to lot of energy wastage. Based on internal audit

report, all such regulators have been weeded out and replaced by electronic

type fan-regulators. An estimated amount of 0.10 Lakh units have been

saved due to this effort alone during last financial year.

3. Premise lighting of Central Hospital was being

predominantly achieved by HPSVs and MH street

lights which had very low energy efficiency on one

hand and were very voltage sensitive on the other.

On the basis of recommendations made in internal

energy audit, all street lights were replaced by

smart, energy-efficient LED lights. One LED based

high mast was also installed and number of HPSVs

was removed in lieu of it. This has resulted in

30.5% electricity saving in the last financial year.

4. Central Hospital was equipped with old fashioned water-chiller based

centralized air-conditioning plant of year 1989 genre which was very

inefficient energy-consumption-wise. Based on the recommendations of

internal energy-audit, it has been replaced by packaged type central air-

conditioning plant which is 24% more efficient when compared on the basis of

units consumed per sqft of cooling area.

5. Further, 21 No old and energy-inefficient split

and window air-conditioners have been replaced

with 5 Star rated energy-efficient air-

conditioners. This has resulted in immense

saving of electricity in the last financial year.

6. DG set installed to fulfill electricity need of

central-hospital was very old and energy in-

efficient due to continuous repair. It used to consume large amount of HSD oil

for catering full load. As an endeavour to continuously weed out non-efficient

equipments, same has been replaced by new 250 KVA DG set having MWM

engine of Greaves Cotton make. This has resulted improvement in specific

energy consumption from 0.38 to 0.30.

7. Occupancy sensors have been installed at strategic locations in the Central

Hospital to avoid unnecessary lighting-up of area in the absence of occupants.

These sensors are dual technology based, i.e. they work on infra-red and

ultrasonic principle simultaneously thereby avoiding spurious switching on/off

of targeted luminaries.

PSRI hospital has 06 nos. 50TR capacity each, 1996 & 2006 model screw chiller to

supply chilled water in the hospital building. The exploitation patterns of these

machines are 05 in operation & one as standby during peak load. The findings of

annual energy audit carried out by external sources revealed that chiller plants are

operating at high energy consumption. The efficiency measured in between 1.05 to

1.37 (the plant was designed for 0.85 KW/TR on full load then).

The corrective action was taken to reduce energy consumption by taking

under mentioned initiative.

• All six numbers reciprocating chillers of the 50 TR capacity were replaced by

02 nos of 200 TR capacity York make chiller (0.575 kW/TR)capable of taking

entire air conditioning load also during peak hours (One chiller run on full

load and 2nd chiller on partial load) on energy efficiency due to superior

technology. The efficiency measured for newly installed plant was 0.52 to

0.55.

• By using 2-way motorized valves in the place of 3-way the load on secondary

pump reduced and energy is being saved as the secondary pump is VFD

driven.

• Operation of Cooling Towers in energy efficiently,

monitoring of water quality and chemical dosing

throughout the year. Maintain quality water avoid

DIVISIONAL RAILWAY HOSPITAL

RAJKOT DIVISION, WESTERN RAILWAY Rajkot (Gujarat)

Unit Profile

Indian Railways is a major utility of the Central Government with a presence

throughout the length and the breadth of the country. Apart from heavy electrical

energy usage for the purpose of electric traction, Railways consumes large amount

of electrical energy for non traction purpose in installations like administrative and

service buildings, stations, Hospitals, residential colonies, pumping etc. With the

growing demand for improved passenger and staff amenities, the consumption of

electrical energy has been continuously on the rise. Railways have embarked on a

mission to reduce the energy demands through the use of energy efficient devices

and practices and tapping the unconventional/renewable sources of energy.
