Let me start by saying… check out our sponsor pages… then go check THEM out!! Without them… well, we couldn't do a lot of what we do. So GO! Thanks to Melvin Little for sharing his restoration process of his awesome Mustang. I have a greater respect and understanding for those of you who have ever restored a Mustang or any car. Great job Melvin!! Kudos to Jim Liner and the gang on representing us so well at the Tulsa Auto Car Show last month. Our herd always makes a positive impact on the multi-day show. Our annual club picnic is this month… May 21st to be exact. The picnic is at no cost to you and is hosted at Melvin Little's property and Mustang1 shop in Sapulpa. Mel- vin asks that we start arriving at noon. Bring your Mustangs, chairs and friendly smiles for some great grilled burgers and hot dogs. Hang out with your current friends and meet new ones. Our membership is growing and we want everyone to feel welcome and a part of the family. The OMC led by Allen King plan to come out in full force. Sorry OMC, no trophy involved here!! Speaking of Melvin… he and I met with the big guns of the Mid-America Ford Meet last Sunday afternoon. We discussed the scope of our involvement in handling regis- tration the day of the Show and the continued task of judging the cars. There are many details to discuss and many volunteers needed to pull off a successful show. We will bring some of this to the May General Meeting and have more detailed plans in place by the June General Meeting. Volunteers include judges, scribes, runners, parking lot attendants, passing out bottled water and marking the parking lot Satur- day evening. Please note… the parking lot attendants will direct participants to park- ing sections and will work two hour shifts… 7-9 and 9-11. This will give those who are showing their cars plenty of time for final cleaning. The judging starts at 11am. Stay tuned for further details. At the last meeting, I asked for submissions of your car and story… check out Steve and Rita's Hot Pony on The Featured Pony in the GCCM Corral page. Want to be next? Send me the article and picture(s)! Don't forget, if you should change address, phone number(s), change your choice of ride, your last name, or give your name in marriage… let our secretary Rachael Granado know to maintain a current roster. If you have ideas for dinner, lunch or activity cruises… or know of a car show… don't be shy! Get in touch with us and we'll get the word out. Meet Hot Pony! She went unidentified for a couple of years because she was abused and misused early in life (kind of like her owner…you'll have to buy her owner's book to find out more about him). Here's some history about her: She was born in 2007 and put up for adoption in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Prior to the adoption process she was sent to Dallas, Texas to have Mark III Customs add their beauty touches of ground effects and spe-cial paint scheme. She and her twin brother (GT) share this one-of-a-kind paint scheme, as they both have a five color look to them. Only their flames have a little differ-ence in their patterns, and all of their cousins have two col-ors about their appearances. Within her first year of age, her first adoptive owner be-came ill and faced repossession by DFS (Department of Financial Services…aka…bank), and placed once again on the adoption market. In the summer of 2009 Steve Young fell in love with her at first sight of this beautiful girl so he and his wife Rita adopted her. She hadn't been around a lot or seen very much of the country as she had 11,000 miles to her record. Within six months she became identified with her new name tag HOTPNY…short for Hot Pony as recognized by the State of Oklahoma as well as recorded in the White Mustang Registry as #0813. Over the past 7 years she's been adorned with multiple glamorous accessories, 2 recog-nizable autographs, additional performance strength, en-tered into multiple beauty pageants (winning 1st & 2nd place in most of them), appeared in magazines, websites, an aircraft carrier, and has traveled throughout the United States now registering 108,500+ miles.

10 Garage Safety Rules That You Should Be

Following Yesterday You’re probably a great DIY mechanic, but even the best can slip up, and you don’t want to re-gret an accident that could have been easily avoided. So, here are 10 tips for a safe and happy garage. De-clutter the Work Area You should have a clean, clutter-free workspace when working on your car. Imagine how hard it would be to slide under the car when there’s no room on either side. Or how you’d love to raise it up on the jack, but you’ve got boxes stacked from floor to ceiling that is in the way. Take some time to prepare and clean up. This lessens the chances of you slipping, tripping, or having other unfortunate accidents. Store Chemicals Properly Cars require many different chemicals in order to run. When handled the wrong way, you might mess up your face, your eyes, or even your skin, as many chemicals are harmful, or even flam-mable. Make sure all of your chemicals are stored properly in sealed containers. Check for leaks. When a bottle is empty, don’t just toss it in the trash or dump out the rest. Put it in another con-tainer and take it to a hazardous waste site. Keep water and towels nearby for when your skin gets gunked-up with oil. Have Proper Ventilation While chemicals that aren’t stored properly can foul up the air, so can your car and its fumes. Always make sure your garage is properly ventilated while working. Never leave a car running in a contained area, because the carbon monoxide fumes can build up at a moment’s notice. The gas is invisible and even small levels are lethal.

Keep a Smoke Detector and Fire Extinguisher Handy Remember reading the part about how many car-related chemicals are flammable? There is al-ways a possibility of a fire starting if you’re not careful. In case of this emergency, it’s a great idea to have a smoke detector. It can detect a fire before it gets out of hand. If you’re lucky enough to spot the fire first, a fire extinguisher will put it out immediately. Keep one close by. In fact, keep one in your car too. Know the Jack Rules Every car has different “jack points” — where to place the jack under your car. Make sure you’re jacking up the car at the right points . Once your car is lifted, don’t forget to put at least two jack stands underneath it for support. These stands go at the front and back of the car along designated jack point pinch welds. To prevent your ride from rolling away when it’s raised, place rubber chocks or a sturdy 2×4 un-der the tires. Be Aware of Several Under-the-Hood Dangers The dangerous stuff isn’t just under your car. There are plenty of dangers under the hood, too. You could accidentally stick your fingers in a running fan or belt. The radiator cap, under high pressure and intense heat, can flash boil if you don’t wait for the pressure to return to zero. Fuel lines with high pressure can shoot gasoline everywhere, which can catch fire. Just make sure you know exactly what to do when you’re under the hood. Maintain a Proper Toolbox What good is working on a car if you don’t have the right tools? They were made to fit into cer-tain parts. Never accept substitutes. Also, if you know one of your tools is broken or on its way out, don’t use it. You’ll be happy you spent the extra money to buy a new tool instead of hurting yourself. Wear the Right Clothes When it comes to auto repairs, the most important areas you need to protect are your hands, your eyes and your ears. Make sure you have proper gloves if you’ll be working on anything sharp, and safety glasses. Don’t wear anything baggy. You want clothes that minimize the risk of getting them caught in something. Hard-toed shoes will save your feet if you drop something on them. Make the Kids’ Stuff Easily Accessible Kids are a big hazard when it comes to garage safety. If you keep anything dangerous at their level, it can increase risk of injury. Keep chemicals and sharp objects high up or locked away. Move the kids’ toys, bikes, and other items to a specific safe area, and make sure they know some basic garage safety. Be Smart When it all comes down to it, your brain is the most important tool you have. Use it to properly to plan out a project — it’ll save you time, money, and possibly your life.
