They are always willing to help to get things done. Stop by or give us a call for an application to volunteer. Well, I am still working on the bus situa- tion for our Mystery Trips. I have a few people looking at what other options we have. I am very optimistic that we may have a September Mystery Trip. I am also looking at a couple of new trips, which I will share with you in September. It is so sad that 45 seniors a month don’t have a Mystery Trip to look forward to. It is amazing what some people will do for the almighty dollar. If you have any ideas regarding transportation, please give me a call. I want you to know that even though it looks like nothing is moving at the Wagoner Community Center, there really is a lot going on. We have put some bids out for a couple of things, and are picking colors for the outside of the building. I am not very patient when it comes to certain things, so I want everything to happen yesterday. Please be patient with all of us, the Wagoner Community Center will be a great senior center and a place for our community to gather. Be ready for some fun and interest- ing programs this month. We have an open house for the 1st Responders in Manistee County. Please come in and thank the men and women who take care of all of us in our county. We are also looking for some talented seniors to participate in our Talent Show. I know you are out there but you don’t want to participate for so many reasons. Let’s show them that seniors are as vibrant, active, and talented as our younger counter parts. We have another painting class with Joann. Everyone loves the painting they are doing this time, I thought about giving it a try. I agree, the key to aging well is growing, learning, connection and giving. I see so many people young and old who don’t connect anymore because of social media. A lot of se- niors can be very isolated, due to trans- portation, family living somewhere else, or family is too busy. Coming in to the senior center will give them that connection. Giving could be sharing a talent, teaching a class, vol- unteering or donation of food. Learning new things is a wonderful way to keep your mind sharp. Finding a book at our lending library or taking the time to learn about someone else’s life during lunch. If you do all of these things it will help you grow as a person and it sure makes you feel good. I hope you have a super September and remember to try something new! September 2019 Newsletter

Did you know that September is National Senior Center Month? This year’s theme is: The Key to Aging Well, growing, learning, con-nection and giving. We have so many oppor-tunities for our seniors in Manistee County. We offer classes and programs that keep seniors involved and interested in things they may not have tried before. There is always something to do, no matter what you may be interested in. I am sure you will find some-thing you would like to try. Not old enough to be a senior? Volunteering is the next best way to get involved. We have some of the best volunteers around. They are always willing to help to get things done. Stop by or give us a call for an application to volunteer. Well, I am still working on the bus situa-tion for our Mystery Trips. I want you to know that even though it looks like nothing is moving at the Wagoner Community Center, there really is a lot going

on. We have put some bids out for a couple of things, and are picking colors for the outside of the building. I am not very patient when it comes to certain things, so I want everything to happen yesterday. Please be patient with all of us, the Wagoner Community Center will be a great senior center and a place for our community to gather. Be ready for some fun and interest-ing programs this month. We have an open house for the 1st Responders in Manistee County. Please come in and thank the men and women who take care of all of us in our county. We are also looking for some talented seniors to participate in our Talent Show. I know you are out there but you don’t want to participate for so many reasons. Let’s show

them that seniors are as vibrant, active, and talented as our younger counter parts. We have another painting class

with Joann. Everyone loves the painting they are doing this time, I thought about giving it a try. I agree, the key to aging well is growing, learning, connection and giving. I see so many people young

and old who don’t connect anymore because of social media. A lot of se-

niors can be very isolated, due to trans-portation, family living somewhere else, or

family is too busy. Coming in to the senior center will give them that connection. Giving could be sharing a talent, teaching a class, vol-unteering or donation of food. Learning new things is a wonderful way to keep your mind sharp. Finding a book at our lending library or taking the time to learn about someone else’s life during lunch. In recognition of Senior Center Month, here is a list of seniors who came into their own after they “officially” became seniors.

Judi Dench- Although Dame Judi Dench has been a stand-out in her work for theatre and TV during her entire working career, she only became a household name in her 60s. Judi has received seven Oscar nominations, all of them when she was over 60. She won Best Actress in Supporting Role in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love. No oth-er actor or actress has collected more nominations when older than 60.

Grandma Moses- Anna Mary Rob-ertson Moses, better known as Grand-ma Moses, didn’t start paining until the age of 76. She decided to give painting a go when she could no longer hold an embroidery needle due to her arthri-tis. Her works were spotted by an art

collector who bought all her paintings and displayed them at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. By the time of her death, her paintings hung in museums all over the world.

James Parkinson- At the age of 62 James Parkinson identified Parkinson’s disease. His 1817 essay on Shaking Palsy lead to our conception of Parkin-son’s today. Although others had previ-ously written about shaking palsy, Par-kinson’s descriptions were so in-depth that he inspired other pathologists to study the disease.

Karl Lagerfeld- Although Lagerfeld pursued fashion from the age of 14, it’s only later in life he made a transforma-tion to reign as head designer at Cha-nel at the age of 82. At the age of 68 he lost roughly 90 pounds as he wanted to wear the high fashion clothes he loved.
