BLOG STRATEGY GOAL

If you are an active internet marketer it is imperative that you have a plan or a strategy in almost everything that you do.

Not just a goal !

Just a goal will more times than not lead to less than the desired outcome. You need to break this down to a micro-strategy.

This is a breakdown of my blogging strategy or “microstrategy”.

This is much more than goal setting. This is goal setting with a very precise street map of how you are going to get there.

This strategy breaks your plan into 6 elements. You can add or subtract to these elements as your needs require. Each element is broken down to as much detail as possible.

To the working titles of each post. (these can change)

To the people I will need involved and their schedules.

To the software and equipment that I must have and learn to use before I perform each task.

To the tactics that I plan to deploy and the time expected to beat down that learning curve.

I always ask what do I need to line up in terms of time and assets as well as how to deploy those assets to get to my goals.

How are you planning to group your blog posts? Are they all going to be single subject blog posts or do you see yourself creating several posts to cover the same subject or different aspects of a subject in your strategy.

Perform a deep enough strategic analysis to be able to list your working titles to at least ½ of your projected posts. A working title aids you in determining whether one or several posts will be needed to sufficiently cover a subject. It will also help you keep your eyes open to great information, statistics and photos for that post coming up.

Are you doing interviews? Line them up now...who are you going to interview?

Be sure to ask yourself which people, tools and tactics will I need to support my blogging strategy.

Who are you going to need to help you do this post? A specific name. What tools do you need? Camera, microphones, recording equipment. Do you know how to use it yet. How are you going to perform the logistics of this post? Do you need to go to the interviewee's home or Starbucks? Is your interviewee available during the time you need them or are you going to have to do the interview now and save it?

Learning curve

What will you have to learn before you do this? Are you doing a blog post about Google Analytics and at this point do not have a clue? Better bone up!

Do you need supporting videos to do this?

Promotions? Are you going to do some guest speaking? (actors do the rounds when their movies comes out on Letterman and Jay...

Ingenious uses of resources. Do up a graphic that is a link to place on your site on Pinterest...maybe? Just saying...

How are you going to market posts with Twitter or other platforms? Which platforms are applicable to you? See above ingenious use of Pinterest.

Select which 3, 4, or 5 social media sites you will market on.

This is the initial outing of you blog post ...not to be be confused with marketing.

Use all social marketing venues available to you. All Networking media. All PDF sites. All bookmarking sites for the initial blast.

You can't market this way but you can distribute this way.

Go back to the marketing social media sites you selected above to have long term conversations about your submissions and posts.

Can you make a slide show (Slide Share) of your post? Add a few pictures and reuse the text.

Can you use pieces of your post in you marketing campaign on Twitter, Facebook, Google +, Pinterest?

Can you do an infographic using some of the same text?

A podcast? PDF? Now run all of these different forms through your distribution (above) and your marketing gauntlet (also above)

Do you plan on making changes to your site in terms of style or composition? You have got to keep it fresh and there is always time for an upgrade.

Are you planning on all new photographs or a change in the mood or theme of your site.

Go through and since you already know your subject matter dig up 50 or 60 photos on the subjects and plug them in when you need them. (saves a ton of time when you need it most).

Add regular features here too.

If you do not measure, you have little chance of knowing when you have achieved your goals.

Frequent measurement by whatever means you choose to do so can provide early indicators of a problem. When caught early these issues may only require a nudge to realign.

All measurement tools will depend on how you define success.

Spend your time measuring the metrics that your goals depend on.

The point is that there is no time like now to get it going. The sooner the better. A strategy should include projects. It should include methods, it should include assets (specific people and resources) nailing it down as far as you can and making sure the people you are planning to use are available during the time frame you need.

Spend a day or two thinking about where your business will be in six months. If you are to the point to which you can estimate revenue then it should include that as well

Dream Goals

Then there should be a stretch goal. This stretch goal should answer to the question, what would I be able to do if everything went better than I had planned? Where would I be?

After you have your stretch goal, put up a totally unrealistic dream goal.

I know that people tell you to put down reachable goals... and you have but what if just twice in your life you managed to achieve those dream goals?

Dream Goals

Just thinking about a dream goal you have already made it 100 times more achievable than not. The dream may be just having a site on the internet answering to your niche. It may be to increase revenue by 20% by creating a project or two or maybe just start using the site to make money by monetizing it.

Then it may be to have the site go into the stratosphere in popularity...

Do not discount anything...
