Principal’s Message

The past week has seen many successes celebrated by our campus. We haveexcelled in:

Sport with our Girls’ Rugby team being given a Wild Card to play the statechampionships next Tuesday based on their skill and performanceRelationships and behaviour with over 600 students being eligible for PositiveRewards ExcursionYear 8 Travel Expo in our gym, showcasing their learningDebating with our Stage 4 and 5 teams excellingLearning as shown in the reports that have arrived in homes this week

Now for a major success – Central Coast Dance FestivalOn Monday night I had the absolute pleasure in attending the opening night ofCentral Coast Dance Festival – a prestigious event where our students absolutelyshone.

Jordan showed himself to be the outstanding young man we all know he is. Hehandled the co-MC role with a professionalism that outstripped his years and in hisusual humble style. Please give him a pat on the back for his work because he didso much to show what is right with young people - especially respectful young men!

He was be followed in that role throughout the week by Abbey and Kyrah. They arealso sure to be polished, professional and welcoming.

Next came the performances of the NAISDA Ensemble and the appearance ofJenaya and Allison. Both girls were outstanding in their movement, interpretation andsupport for performers around them. They have benefitted from the brilliantexperience they have achieved through their involvement in NAISDA and to think itstarted here!

They were followed by the College Dance Ensemble which was bursting with currentand previous Tumbi-ites who all combined with their peers to give what was one ofthe top performances of the evening. It was a joy to watch the girls all performtogether and enjoy the polish and professionalism of what they do so well.

Next came the Regional Ensemble and again our girls shone with experience andinnocence a part of their work. The manner in which they formed into a close knitperformance group showed the amazing professionalism in people so young yet sopractised. Once again a brilliant performance.

And it kept coming with the next being the performance by our Year 9 girls on thetheme of Baggage. They showed they had no baggage about storming the floor andmaking it their own. I am not biased but this performance was the best of the night. The sheer numbers and the polish of their perfromance would have bought a tear toa softer person's eye and broad smile to their face.

Just when you thought it was over yet another Regional Ensemble came out andwith Maddy's centre performance topping off the evening with a strong performancethat was fitting to the occasion - Tantrum!

There is absolutely no doubt about the talent and the depth of talent at both thecampus and college level.

It is fitting to pay tribute to the fact that behind this is the talented and dedicated teamwithin CAPA made up of the amazing Miss Proust and the dedicated Mrs Pickles -you both rock my world and I thank you for the work that you do in bringing ourstudents to the fore - no shrinking violets here and even more impoirtantly no primadonnas!

Miss Carryer and Mr McGinley took ourfull bus full again and ventured out to Ourimbah Campus for the Try a Skills Day. Anyapprehension quickly disappeared as everyone moved into the activities. Jez, Klahra, Bec and Ash tried everything from childcare to to beauty therapyto hospitality, even getting to try their hand at being a barista.

Understanding Builds Acceptance and Safety Recently 10G ventured to Sydney eager to gain a deeper understanding of theHolocaust. Miss Carryer's expert knowledge of Sydney's streets ensured everyonemade the 10am start. We were greeted by George, who was one of the 6% ofJewish children that survived World War 2. After listening to how Geroge survivedand discussing the difference between tolerance and acceptance, we were spokento about how such atrocities were allowed to happen. We then toured the AnneFrank exhibit before loading back onto the bus for part 2 of our eye openingexcursion. We made our way over to the State Library for a look at the World PressPhotography Exhibition. The photos provoked an array of emotions from thestudents, highlighting the differences in culture, living conditions and lifestyles thatpeople experience across the world. Our students displayed respect and engaged with topics central to our world and thesafety of all peoples. Most students had been previously unfamiliar with any of thelearning they did on this day. it is so important that we revisit history in order tounderstand why what we have today is so precious and worth protecting. A very worthwhile and rewarding excursion on so many levels. Thanks 10G, MrMcGinley and Miss Carryer - you opened our eyes!
