15 years Touch Football - Northern Rivers Zone Trials and Gala Day. The 15 years Maclean High School touch teams headed to Woodenbong for our annual zone trial and gala day jaunt. A long trip and very hot condions did not appear to perturb our team’s success. It was a phenomenal day with both teams winning every game that was thrown at them. The boys were successful scoring 8 or 9 tries in every game with zero scored against. This was an outstanding effort. The girls, not to be outdone, also won every game by 4 or more. Richmond River High School put up a fight but the girls sll came out on top 6-2. The skill level, sportsmanship and fitness from all players on the day was exceponal and it made a massive impression on the selectors. Unfortunately, not all players were able to be selected but the Maclean High School students definately demonstrated they were a force to be reckoned with. NSW Surf Life Saving State Titles Huge congratulations to Kalani Ives, Year 9, who this weekend took out the Under 17 Ironwoman event at the NSW Surf Life Saving State titles. Kalani is a member of the Yamba Surf Lifesaving Club and has also recently returned from taking out first place in the K1 1500 Marathon at the 2021 Paddle Queensland State Championships.
We are happy to see that the randomness of 2020 and the craziness of COVID has not dulled your flame Kalani.

CHS Individual Tennis Championships Maclean High School’s elite tennis players headed off to Sydney last week to compete in the annual CHS State Individual Championships. Our team, consisting of Nathan Hayman, Samantha Hayman and Piper Ramsey had a successful week with Nathan and Piper reaching the third round of their respective 15 years division singles events.
Sammy had a wonderful singles event reaching the semi finals after demolishing the number one seed in the quarter finals with confident stroke play. She then had a tight loss to the event champion in the semi finals, but finished strongly with a win in the bronze medal play off match for third place in the 15 years division.
Our 15 years mixed doubles team of Piper and Nathan were quarter finalists and, in a truly gritty performance, our 15 years doubles pairing of Sammy and Piper overcame injury and all corners to claim victory in the 15 years girls doubles.
Thank you to the team for their great sportsmanship and exemplary behaviour; they were great ambassadors for Maclean High School. Also thanks to Philipa and Tony Hayman for their support over the week.
Mr Ramsey.

Tell Them From Me Student Survey Maclean High School will once again be participating in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The Tell Them From Me student survey asks students about a range of school experiences, including their engagement and wellbeing at school and beyond. It also asks students about teaching practices and the learning environment. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete and will be completed in allocated class time. • This survey is an opportunity for students to let their teachers know how they are going at school. • The survey will ask students how engaged they are with their learning, different ways that their
teachers teach them in class, how supported they feel at school, and more. • Responses are confidential, which means teachers won’t know how students have answered. • Please encourage your child to answer as honestly as they can. There are no right or wrong answers.
The school just wants to hear what they think and their responses will help to improve their school. Some of the questions are there to help the school understand students and how to best meet their needs.
• If your child is unsure how to answer them, they can skip these questions. • They can skip any question that they don’t feel comfortable answering. • If your child would like to talk about any of the questions in this survey, please encourage them to
talk to their teacher, their Year Adviser, the School Counsellor or the School Psychologist. • If you do not wish your child to participate in Tell Them From Me, please request and complete a
non-consent form https://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents/translated-resources and send it to the front office.

Northern Rivers Tertiary Roadshow In late February we had close to 100 students self nominate to attend the Northern Rivers Tertiary Roadshow.
Representatives from seven educational institutions attended including Southern Cross University, University of New England, Bond University, University of Southern Queensland, University of Queensland, Griffith University and TAFE NSW.
A great intro to post school study options, students and families should keep an eye on Sentral for other upcoming opportunities.
Eftpos Payments to the School As instructed by the Department of Education recently, we are no longer able to take Eftpos payments over the phone. This is to avoid fraudulent card activity.
Parents are encouraged to use the online payment method which is a secure site between the Department of Education and the Westpac Bank.
To use this payment method go to the school’s webpage and click on the link at the top - ‘make a payment’. Enter the details of your payment - you do not need to include a reference number or invoice number, just the student’s name, what the payment is for and the amount. You will also be asked to list your email address so a receipt can be emailed after the payment is made.
The school will be notified of the payment and staff will receipt the payment against the student’s name in our cask desk.
Morning Tea with Senator The Hon. Marise Payne Thank you from The Hon. Kevin Hogan to all students and teachers who attended the morning tea with Senator The Hon. Marise Payne, Minister for Women on Monday morning.
It was wonderful to see so many young women engaging with Marise to share their thoughts and ideas.
Marise had a great day; she was really impressed with the questions the students asked.

Literacy Tip for this week: What is an Idiom?
An idiom is a phrase or expression that typically presents a figurative, non-literal meaning attached to the phrase. eg It’s raining cats and dogs. Saved by the bell. To sit on the fence.
Mrs Martin, Relieving Deputy Principal.
MEANING: When a person does not take sides in an argument or is hesitant to choose between two sides in a dispute (in order to remain neutral).
EXAMPLE: You can’t sit on the fence any longer - you must choose whose side you are on.
