Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU), the Society of Uilleann Pipers, was founded in 1968 at grassroots level by pipers with the aim of protecting a threatened art form. Rosie O’Reilly - designer and illustrator, is director of re-dress.ie, a creative fashion organisation dedicated to promoting better fashion practices in Ireland. Marcus Donaghy is an architect with a family background in the tradition of Donegal weaving and also literature. He is interested in the relationship of architecture and finely made objects from local traditions. He worked with musician and architect Steve Larkin on the OPUS award winning A House for Musicians. Musician and architect Steve Larkin plays fiddle in traditional band The Listeners. Deirdre Harte has been working in the area of ethical fashion for the last three years. In 2010 she took up a two-month artist in residency programme with the Kilkenny County Council Arts office, which saw her develop a new body of work collaborating with a group of local knitters. The result was a seated area covered in this unique yarn structure. Known globally as ‘Yarn Bombing’, it is a form of graffiti art using yarn. www.deeharte.com

Simply Architecture and Horizon Furniture are two small companies based in Cork, led by architect Gareth Sullivan and furniture designer & maker Fergal O’Leary. Runners up in the Craftitecture competition, they developed a concept based on the shared creative experience presented by Electric Picnic. Irish Design Shop - Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey set up Irish Design Shop in 2008, to promote handmade, design led craft product. In 2011 they launched pop up shops in the RHA and National Gallery of Ireland. Clare and Laura run their business online and from their shop in Dublin’s city centre. Garvan de Bruir runs a traditional design and craftsmanship studio in Kildare Town. He specialises in the use of decorative timbers, fine leathers and cast metals. With these core materials his project ranges cover luggage, furniture, sculpture and prefabricated architecture. Cruth Curach is the result of Craftitecture, a design competition run by the Crafts Council of Ireland and the Irish Architecture Foundation to celebrate Year of Craft 2011 on the island of Ireland. This pavilion is a collaboration between Bucholz McEvoy Architects and master boat builder, Jim Horgan. Constructed using the form of currachs, it will move on horizontal and vertical axes to form an open space when in use and a sculptural form when closed. Cruth Curach makes its debut at Electric Picnic as part of Global Green.
