According to the reports these scammers represent themselves as Tri Valley Health System employees. They are attempting to receive credit card numbers no matter if you are or are not a Tri Valley Health System patient. They are threatening to send the account to collections if they don't receive payment right away. It is important to know that Tri Valley Health System will never make a call to demand payment over the phone. We encour- age the public to remain vigilant and protect their personal infor- mation over the phone. We also want to remind the public that it is still safe to call into Tri Valley Health System at 308-697-3329. Tri Valley Health System takes this matter seriously and we have noti- fied law enforcement. Should you have any questions about your account at Tri Valley Health System, please call (308) 697-3329. If you believe that you may have been a victim of the telephone scam you may report that information to the Furnas County Sheriff's of- fice at (308) 268-2245. SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE March 1 is the priority deadline to turn in a scholarship application for the 2018-19 school year at Mid-Plains Community College. More than $600,000 worth of academic and program-focused scholarships are up for grabs. Current and prospective students can apply for the scholarships online at https://mpcc.awardspring.com/. They will need to register for an account to complete the form. Erinn Brown, area director of Financial Aid, recommends that students register with an email address they will have access to throughout the 2018-19 school year to ensure they receive follow up communi- cations. Students will be able to see within their accounts what schol- arships they qualify for and track the progress of their applications. “If they receive an award, students will be notified through the sys- tem,” said Brown. “They can then log in to accept or decline the scholarship.” More information about the scholarships and the appli- cation process is available by calling Brown at (308) 345-8112, or emailing [email protected]. PERSONAL FINANCE COMPETITION Nebraska will host a national high school personal finance competi- tion. State Treasurer Don Stenberg says high school students from across the country will be in Lincoln May 11th at the new University of Nebraska College of Business to compete in the Personal Finance Challenge national competition. Stenberg says Nebraska has done well in the competition. “Last year was a great year for Nebraska,” Stenberg tells reporters during a news conference at the College of Business. “The winner of the state personal finance challenge was Arthur County High School, one of the smallest high schools in the state of Nebraska. They placed third in the national competition in Kansas City.” More than one thousand from 43 Nebraska schools participated in the state spring Personal Finance Challenge. This is the first time the national competition will be held on a university campus. It previously had been held in St. Louis and Kansas City. It is now in its 8th year. SPORTS McCook's Syd Wier finished 15th overall at the Nebraska

state high school diving championships at the Bob Deve-

ney Sports Center in Lincoln yesterday. Wier finished with

a score of 340.45. Erik Graff finished with a score of

319.50 while Spencer Reiners had a score of 305.35. The

Bison swimmers will swim today. Finals are scheduled for

tomorrow in Lincoln.

Three High Plains Radio area boys basketball teams ad-

vanced to district championship games next week after

wins last night. Medicine Valley knocked off Arapahoe 67-

48 in the Class D1-11 sub district title game at Cambridge

High School. Joseph Chancellor led four Raiders in double

figures with 20 points. Medicine Valley will meet Paxton in

a district final next Tuesday. Cambridge defeated Southern

Valley in the Class C2-10 sub district at the Graff Events

Center. The Trojans will meet Arcadia-Loup City next

week. Wauneta-Palisade had no trouble with Wallace,

winning the Class D2-9 sub district title in Ogallala with a

77-47 win. The Broncos will face Mullen next week. Girls

district finals are tonight. Hitchcock County will face Morrill

in the Class D1-6 final at Ogallala. Pregame coverage on

103.9 The Hawk starts at 6:40. Cambridge faces Burwell

for the Class C2-5 district championship and Maywood-

Hayes Center meets Sandhills-Thedford in the Class D2-5

title game.
