We filed the papers necessary with the IRS. Our club was operating without filing, this could incur some fines. Fortunately, Richard Lauritsen (Sherri’s husband) has been through this situation before and filed the prop- er papers. This is no ones fault, we all did not know that we were suppose to file. We have everything in order and hopefully the IRS will accept our explanation. I will keep all of you informed on the status. With the IRS this could take a while. I received a letter in the mail from the IRS and we should know something in 90 - 180 days. The wheels turn slowly when the government is involved. FAN

General Meetings

Meetings are held at 9:30 a.m. on

the second Tuesday of the month,

at JOHN WESLEY

METHODIST CHURCH September thru May.

Our next meeting will be on Sep-

tember 9, 2014

President’s Message

WOW!! The last few months have been busy. The new FAN

BOARD has met and I can report we are going to have an outstanding year.

Everyone has fantastic ideas for trips, luncheons and socials. The speakers

are lined up and the topics range from fashion to pet care. There will be

something for everyone.

Now for some difficult news, we will not be meeting at St. Ignatius.

St. Ignatius made it impossible for us renew our contract. Our new home is

JOHN WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH located at 5830

Bermunda Dunes. We will have to change to the SECOND TUESDAY of

the month. Ladies, this was a very difficult task to find a place that was rea-

sonable and large enough. I realize that game days will have to be rear-

ranged, but it cannot be helped.

We filed the papers necessary with the IRS. Our club was operating

without filing, this could incur some fines. Fortunately, Richard Lauritsen

(Sherri’s husband) has been through this situation before and filed the prop-

er papers. This is no ones fault, we all did not know that we were suppose

to file. We have everything in order and hopefully the IRS will accept our

explanation. I will keep all of you informed on the status. With the IRS this

could take a while. I received a letter in the mail from the IRS and we

should know something in 90 - 180 days. The wheels turn slowly when the

government is involved. Once, everything is accepted, the filings should be

a simple process, but we have to make a few changes. .

PURPOSE

To provide an opportunity for members to become acquainted with others in

the community in an atmosphere of friendliness, goodwill and helpful information.

To undertake and to promote charitable and humanitarian projects within the

community.

To form enduring friendships.

Ladies, we are in for a “GOOD YEAR’’.

I know we have changes in our future and this makes our members uneasy. Be assured the BOARD is making decisions that we feel will bene-fit FAN members. We do not take our responsibili-ties lightly. We are always in need of volunteers. Throughout the year there will be opportunities for you to help, please sign up and work on the vari-ous committees that will be forming to accomplish our goals. FAN Website

I will be managing the FAN website this

year. It is easy to get to and no password is re-

quired. The FAN website is

http://fan1960.wordpress.com.

This past year, Adrienne Juno did an in-

credible job in setting up and organizing this

website for FAN members. As events unfold in

our FAN community, I will post them to your

FAN website. You can always find current and

archived copies of the newsletter, the member-

ship form as well as elected board and extended

board members’ names and their pictures. Like

Adrienne, I will continue to post social events as

they unfold this year. Be sure to stop by and

add the FAN website to your “Favorites” on

your computer. You just may find your picture

on the website! Contact me with any news or

concerns.

Many thanks,

NEEDLE ARTS LOVERS

If you enjoy any type of needlework (cross

stitch, knitting, beading, quilting, embroidery, etc.);

hook work (crocheting, hook rug, latch hook, etc.), or

sewing (save your hems and other handwork and

bring it along) and want to double your fun, come join

the Needle Arts Lovers (NAL) group.

Our group enjoys working on our projects

while we share our joy and our latest work-in-progress

with other members. We enjoy conversations with

other ladies who share an appreciation for Needle

Arts.

Our meetings are on the first Wednesday and

the third Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The meeting place is announced prior to each meeting.

If you cannot make it by 10 a.m., just come when you

can, even if it is only for an hour. The hostess for each

meeting provides beverages, but no food. Sometimes

we also go out to lunch.

Just sign up at one of the FAN meetings or call

Pat Quackenbush

at 281-350-0429 or [email protected].

If you want to come to a meeting to

check us out, contact Pat Q.

Happy Stitching!

FAN Nature Walkers

We have been exploring the wooded nature

trails at Burroughs Park, Mercer Arboretum, Pundt

Park and Spring Creek Greenway. Our Precinct 4

Parks Department encompasses over 3,800 acres

which allows us a large area for nature walking. If

you wish to join us, please reply with your email

address. We have two walks per month and are

outdoors from 90 minutes to two hours. I will con-

tact the group via email with details as to date,

time and location for our next walk.

The Nature Walkers are taking a sum-

mer break and will resume activity when fall

weather is upon us.

INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT

WINE?

The FAN Wine Tasting Group is looking

for subs. We meet on the 1st Saturday of the month.

This is a couples activity. The hosts pick the wines

and serve dessert and coffee. The other members

bring an appetizer to share. The cost of the wines

is split among the attendees. We have a fun time

and learn a lot about wines from around the world.

If you’d like to be put on our sub list, please con-

tact me.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY LUNCHEON

Our FAN holiday luncheon supporting local charities will be Tuesday, December 2, at Shirley

Acres. This year’s theme is “A Victorian Christmas”. Mark your calendars right now and start thinking

about contributions for the silent auction and raffles. Also, if you would be willing to lend us any type

of Victorian era items to use for decorations, please let one of the ladies whose names are indicated be-

low, know what you have. We would only need them for that one day.

Are you taking a wonderful trip? Keep an eye out for something special a FAN friend would love to

have. Moving or downsizing? Put aside those treasures you no longer have space for, but know they’ll

be appreciated by another FAN member. Do you have a secret talent, or are you hailed by your friends

as an expert? Offer your services to the highest bidder! And activity groups can begin planning for their

silent auction contributions now before the holiday rush begins.

Because we’ve had such wonderful response in the past, we’ll begin accepting items earlier this year

(locations will be announced next month!) and hope to finalize the collection by November 1st to give us

time to prepare the optimal promotion and display area at A Victorian Christmas. If you would be will-

ing to accept donated items at your home, please let us know. And yes, while we all have a great time at

the luncheon, please remember it is our chosen charity which is so grateful for the support we provide to

those in need in our area.

If you would enjoy helping us prepare for A Victorian Christmas, please contact one of our co-chairs:
