PRINCIPAL’S REPORT NAPLAN Testing All the best to our year 3 and 5 students who will be participating in the NAPLAN testing program next week. These tests include Creative Writing, Language Conventions, Reading Comprehen- sion and a Maths test. We hope that all of our students achieve wonderful results and do the best they can. The NAPLAN tests are one of the measures that the Department uses to assess the performance of our school. (Other measures include the Student Attitudes to School, The Parent Opinion and Staff Opinion Survey). The NAPLAN data is published on the My School Website each year for parents to access. This data gives us a very small snapshot of where our students are at when they sit these tests in May, but we are very proud of all of our students and the terrific effort they display towards their school work. Prep Tours Term two is the time that we start to get many enquiries about the preps for the following year. At Frankston we conduct individual tours for interested parents and all you have to do is ring the school on 9783 3769 to make an appoint- ment. We have a fabulous facility for our preps with our ‘Early Learning Centre’ that caters for two prep classes. If you have friends or neigh- bours who have a child starting prep next year then please let them know that we are beginning to do our tours. We would love to meet you and show you around our fabulous school. Family Fun Night - Education Week Once again we are having one of our fabulous “Open Nights” to celebrate our wonderful school. Our Family Fun Night for Education Week will be held on Wednesday 22nd of May from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. On this night we will be cooking dinner for all of you. There will be snags on the BBQ and soft drinks for sale and we invite you all to come and have your dinner at school and enjoy the activities we have planned on the night. We will start the entertainment off with our Choir singing with our performing arts teacher, Sally Grage-Moore. This will be followed by a Human Powered Vehicle demonstration to inform our parents about this exciting extra curricula pro- gram (and we will be giving parents and students a turn in the vehicle.) MINESTRONE (Serves 4) A dish made with pasta is an easy way to get carbohydrates for energy, either as recovery food or to load your body up in the days before a big carnival or tournament. But some pasta dishes can load you too quickly and make your energy peek and fade away. So try this tasty soup with pasta, pulses and vegetables for an all-round nutritious meal.

INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon of olive oil 1 onion, peeled & chopped or grated 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced 2 rashers bacon, rind removed and chopped 1 stick celery, chopped 1 carrot, peeled and grated 1 can cooked beans or pulses, drained and rinsed 1 can chopped tomatoes 1 litre chicken stock 1/2 cup (60 grams) dried pasta 3 dried bay leaves small sprig fresh thyme a sprinkle of salt and pepper

Method: 1. Cook potatoes until they are tender (either boil or steam) then drain and set aside to cool. 2. Heat the oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add bacon, garlic and onion and fry until it is crispy then place it onto pa-per towel to drain the fat. 3. In a large bowl, mix the mayonnaise, apple cider, chopped herbs, salt and pepper together. 4. When the potatoes have cooled, cut or break into bite-sized pieces, add to the bowl with the herbs and dressing, then add the bacon and the egg tossing gently to combine. 5. Add all ingredients to cooked pasta and heat through until

CELEBRATING MOTHERS DAY

WITH A BREAKFAST TO REMEMBER!

Frankston Primary School celebrated Mothers Day with a yummy breakfast spread that was

prepared and served by all the staff . It was so pleasing to see so many of our Mums and

Grandmothers enjoying time to stop and indulge themselves in a scrumptious breakfast with

their children. This year we served over 200 breakfasts which was our biggest turn out

yet………..it did mean that you had to wait a little longer but we appreciated your patience

and the wonderful compliments many of you gave after you had eaten. We recognise the

wonderful job all our Mums do for their children and we hope you all enjoy a special day

with your families on Sunday. Happy Mothers Day!!!!!!!
