You’re probably aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The color pink is virtually everywhere, just like the ribbons people wear to help spread awareness of this disease.

But I think it’s important we recognize this month for what it is … much more than a time to simply don our pink shirts as a way to support a good cause. It’s important we remember breast cancer (along with all cancers) is a very real, serious disease affecting so many people. And not just those who have been diagnosed, but their family, friends, and all those who care about them. We wear pink not just to fit in with the trend of the month, but to remind ourselves and others to be active, supportive, and prepared.

Globe Life And Accident Insurance Company, Employee Services Division (ESD) works in so many ways to help improve people’s lives during their most difficult times. One of the ways we do that is by helping our customers prepare for the undesirable but real possibility of a cancer diagnosis. Our cancer insurance products can help individuals with cancer and some of the financial strains it often leaves in its wake. It’s one way you can help your customers be prepared for this disease if they ever have to hear this difficult news from their physician. Because we all know cancer doesn’t discriminate. We’re all at risk, and while we should all hope for the best, we should also prepare for the worst.

As you’re helping your customers gain some financial protection with our life and supplemental health insurance products, remember we’re more than halfway through the year, so be sure to make the most of the rest of the year. Be motivated by knowing your success as an Agent means more people are better prepared to face life’s most difficult challenges, whether that be

a certain diagnosis or the death of a loved one. Remember you could be a huge factor in the quality of someone’s future, and your hard work and diligence are so important to the people we serve. Your hard work helps ensure people can move on, and helps people survive – it helps them become survivors. Whether it’s surviving cancer, surviving the hardships of a loved one with cancer, or surviving loss, your work is crucial in that journey to survival, so make sure you help as many people become survivors as you can.

And while you’re motivating yourself with thoughts of helping your customers, help that motivation increase even more by focusing on what it takes to qualify for next year’s Convention. When you go to Convention, it’s about recognizing those hardworking Agents and discussing exciting changes we are working on. Just from this year’s Convention we’ve expanded our recruiting and training efforts with the implementation of webinars – more information about the webinars and how far we’ve come since Convention is located on page seven of this Spinnaker magazine.

You’ve made a great career choice to help people in your community. Know when you help your customers, you achieve your own success. Remember throughout this month of cancer awareness you can help others on their journey to becoming survivors – emotionally, mentally, financially – and that is work to be extremely proud of.

Breast Cancer: Trending NowOver the years cancer research has expanded, and has helped improve survival rates. Here are some statistics published this year by the American Cancer Society about breast cancer, and how it’s changed.

Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer in women, and is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women.

38% decline in breast cancer death rates from its peak in 1989 to 2014 due to improvements in early detection and treatments – that’s 297,300 fewer deaths.

From 2004 to 2013, invasive breast cancer incidence rates were stable in Caucasian women and increase by 0.5% per year in African American women.

About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer.

In 2017, invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in about

252,710 women 2,740 men

An estimated 41,070 breast cancer deaths will occur in 2017, about 460 of which accounts for men.

Looking forward, the National Cancer Institute projects the breast cancer diagnosis rate will increase 50 percent by 2030.

Other Projections by 2030:

- New breast cancer cases in women age 50 to 69 is expected to decrease from 55 percent to 44 percent.

- New breast cancer cases in women age 70 to 84 is expected to increase from 24 percent to 35 percent.

There’s a huge need for cancer coverage not just in the United States. With one in two men and one in three women at risk of developing cancer in their lifetime*, it’s important to think ahead. This month we take a closer look at the risk for breast cancer and the need for cancer coverage.

The Need for Cancer CoverageAccording to the US Census Bureau, 29 million Americans were uninsured in 2015. This stems from lack of health insurance and other barriers which prevent some Americans from receiving adequate coverage.

Facts about Cancer Coverage:

- The largest increase in health insurance coverage was among those with the lowest education and income.

- 16 percent of Hispanics and 11 percent of African Americans are uninsured compared to 7 percent of non-Hispanic whites.

- The percentage of uninsured ranges from 3 percent in Massachusetts to 17 percent in Texas.

- Uninsured patients and those from many ethnic minority groups are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with a later-staged cancer, when treatment is more expensive and less successful.

What Can You Do To Help?Help your customer find the cancer coverage that best fits their needs. Globe Life ESD offers a Cash Caner Plan which pays up to $50,000 cash, one time, to use as the customer sees fit*. The money can be used for traveling to treatment, room and board at facilities or hotels, bills, taking a vacation, and much more!

WEBINARS WE’VE HOSTED

Recruiting: We absolutely love our Globe Life ESD family, and we want to spread the love. Our goal is to continue to thrive by growing our family, and sharing the opportunity to protect the people who serve us on a daily basis – teachers, postal workers, city and municipality officers, etc.

“Your Globe Life Independent Agent Opportunity”

“I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for a great presentation on Globe Life. I had an opportunity to view your presentation a few weeks ago and it caught my attention. But this week your presentation on Globe Life and its products made me realize that this may be an excellent opportunity to represent a company with integrity that has great upside potential. I appreciate the value of your time and your commitment to explaining all the details about the company. I look forward to joining the Globe Life team and I hope that I can contribute to the company’s success. With your leadership I am certain that won’t be a problem. Thanks again and keep up the great work.” – Agent Byron Goff

Training: We want all new Agents to feel pride in what they do and who they do it with, so what better way than simply introducing ourselves. Our introductory training webinar will familiarize new Agents with the team, products, Agent tools, and culture of our Company. And,

if you’re new to the government employee market, our webinar on prospecting is a perfect next step to grow! We’ll teach you best practices we’ve developed over the years and show you how to get started in this niche market.

“Introduction to ESD”

“Prospecting for your ESD Business”

“There was a lot of fantastic information in the webinar. Thank you very much for presenting it. As a brand new agent, I would like to view it again.” – Agent Scott Douglas

“That was fantastic. Could listen to it more than once and get something I missed the first time.” – Agent Kenneth Cross

DON’T MISS OUT!

Keep an eye out for our newest training webinar in the works…

“Federal Employee Group Life Insurance (FEGLI)”

We’ll dive into the specifics of government employee benefits so Globe Life ESD Agents can help educate their prospect on the current benefits they have, and how the supplemental products we offer play into improving their current benefits. Register for a training webinar and let us know what you think!

Omar Borrego Director of Recruiting

How Far We’ve Come

It’s only been a few months since Convention 2017 in Chicago, Illinois, but we’ve been hard at work to provide even more tools for our Agents’ successes. Our most recent endeavor: creating webinars.

Globe Life ESD is proud to say, not only have we started hosting recruiting and training webinar, but we also plan to expand the training webinar topics.

Earn Extra CASH

for the Holidays

For every dollar of weekly premium you write during the contest period, you receive cash credit for that exact amount.* At the end of the contest period, your credits are added up and you receive a check from the Company for the total amount of your credits. For example, if you write $100 weekly premium each week for eight weeks, that’s a total of $800 in addition to the commission you’ve already earned on that premium. The more premium you write, the more cash credit you earn!

*To qualify, a minimum of $200.00 in weekly premium must be produced during the contest period.

Note: The cash credit is based on weekly premium written, not annualized premium.

Want to make this year’s gift-giving extra special? We have a great incentive to provide you extra cash for

the holidays and boost your 2017 production!
