From Rt Revd Dr David Court, First impressions, it is said, are important, so what are my first impressions of the Diocese of Lincoln - after actually being here in post, as I write, all of one week! Well the welcome has been all we could have hoped for, and we have met some wonderfully warm, affirming and incredibly helpful people. The sun has so far shone, and I have seen the county at what I suspect is its glorious best - and we have dis-covered a church full of heart and positively wanting to move forward. It is a contrast to how we are often seen by the world at large - and yet I love the description of the Church in 1 Peter 'but you' he says, 'are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a Holy nation, a people belonging to God'. That, despite all our flaws, is how God sees us. It is what we are called to live out - and I am looking forward to working with you to build 'faithful, confident, joyful communities' in the years that now lay ahead.

Caythorpe Playing Fields Arnhem Gala. It is very pleasing to be able to report that the Gala held on Saturday 6th September made some £1700 for the Playing Fields coffers. It was a real team effort and thanks must go the following: Woodward’s Garage; The Red Lion; Caythorpe Fish and Chip
Shop; Hector & Eve and the Old Barne at Marston who all gave vouchers for the raffle along with others who donated bottles and gifts.
PGL for letting us have seven members of staff all day whose help was invaluable as well as lending us chairs and tables and donating wine.
Craft Club; Caythorpe and District WI; St Vincent’s Church and Walk 4 Life group whose members ran stalls.
To all those who also helped out on the day by baking cakes, making lots of cups of tea, cooking burgers and sausages, selling raffle tickets, manning stalls and then helping clear up at the end.
To Tony Case our MC for the day. To the 216 Parachute Signal Squadron for putting up the mar-
quees. To all those who came along on the day and helped make it such a
great success!

Caythorpe and District Garden Society The September meeting of the Society featured a talk on ‘Creation of a Pond’ by Sally Smith, an organic gardening consultant with a wealth of both practical and theoretical experience. Illustrating her talk with some excellent slides, she took us through the construction, planting and main-tenance of a pond, with emphasis on its benefits to wildlife. Bog gardens and water features were also discussed and there followed a lively ques-tion and answer session. Many thanks to Sally for this extremely useful and interesting lecture. The Caythorpe Show, held on Aug 30th, was a great success. Over 600 entries from 78 different people were received for the 98 different classes, making an impressive and colourful display for those who came to view and to sample the cream teas on offer. Clive Peberdy won the cup for the most points overall and Jill Lewis took the members’ trophy. David Morison scooped the pool in the photography competition, winning all four classes, and Geoff Cottingham once again produced the heaviest crop from one seed potato grown in a bucket, with 2.86 kg (6lb 5 oz). Many thanks to everyone who supported the event, and special thanks to the judges, who generously give their time for the difficult task of selecting the winners. Our next meeting will be on Oct 14th at 7:30 in Carlton Scroop village hall, when Don Whitton will give a talk on ‘Euphorbias’, a group of striking, ar-chitectural perennials which should be better known. Visitors are most welcome (£3 including refreshments) – just come along. For membership information please contact David Fidler on 01400 272630.
Carlton Scroop Quiz At the Quiz Night at Carlton Scroop and Normanton Social Club held on Saturday 13th September the eventual winners were “The Heath Laners” consisting of friends from Normanton-on-Cliffe. Two teams from Carlton Scroop: ”The Not So Newbies” and “A Pair of Bullocks”, were second and third. The booby prize was won by the “Forklifters”. Forty-seven people comprising eleven teams from the two villages and from Caythorpe, Hough, Grantham and Newark took part and a very en-joyable evening was had by all. The quiz had four rounds of questions covering a large range of topics together with two table quizzes An Autumn Quiz will be held on Saturday 18th October at the Social Club. Why not make up a team and enjoy a good night out? You will be very welcome.

that other road users can freely access the High Street at all times. We are draw-ing this matter to the attention of our local member of the Lincolnshire PCSO team . Our pavements and footpaths…..Once again there are instances where over hanging trees and vegetation are blocking already narrow footpaths and impede those residents who are visually impaired as well as those with prams and push chairs. Residents are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that all pavements and footpaths are not impeded. In the event that LCC have to carry out any work in order to deal with such issues they will of course send a bill to the resident whose property was causing a problem.

Caythorpe and District WI On Thursday 11th Sept, Caythorpe & District WI met and had a talk from Lois Fenn. The talk was very interesting, we learnt of Lois and her experiences of being an Evacuee from Hull during WWII, Lois's talk saw the war from her per-sonal view and covered things from outdoor earth toilets to red cross parcels. Those ladies who had lived during the conflict, were taken back to their own childhood memories, others were given a unique view not often told in history books. Lois chose winners from items brought from the war..1st Eileen Driver, 2nd Sue Dix and 3rd Pauline Dorey. The Flower comp was..1st Carol Tointon, 2nd Pauline Dorey and 3rd Linda Stevens. The raffle was won by Roz Hollingworth. The WI meets every second Thursday of the month in the Village Hall, we meet in the back room of the hall at 0730, so please come and join us, new ladies are always welcome. Next month we are having a yummy pudding tasting night......how could you resist that!!

Parish Council News……October 2014. Allotments…..A meeting was held on 2nd September at which 14 residents dis-cussed details of the plans that we have to establish allotments on a site adjacent to Gorse Hill Lane. It was agreed, subject to certain points of detail that they were willing to form an Allotment Association which would be responsible for the day to day management and running of the site. In view of this very positive response we are now in the process of obtaining final quotes for the necessary work that needs to be undertaken in order to provide access and parking, fencing as well as the possibility of providing a water supply. We are looking to spend up to £16,000 from our reserves which together with a grant of £10,000 that we have received will ensure that we are able to establish a valuable asset for the community. Whilst it is now some three years since this project was first insti-gated we very much hope that we will see this project successfully completed in early 2015. Arnhem weekend…..Once again the community welcomed members of 216 Parachute Signal Squadron along with many old soldiers and their friends. In addition Cllr Bob Greybrook had arranged for some 15 residents of Arnhem to attend the various events and functions that were held. The weekend went very well indeed and our thanks must go to all those who were involved in organising and running the various events and activities. It was a great opportunity for all of us to work together and to demonstrate what a close community we have. Dog fouling….It has been commented on that as well as dogs fouling pavements and other areas within the village that they are also doing so on the many foot-paths across our local fields that so many of us enjoy walking. Dog owners are reminded that dog fouling is an offence and your co-operation in removing all faeces would be appreciated. High Street congestion…..The start of the new school year has seen a return to scenes of parking chaos within the vicinity of the school at the start and end of the school day. Parents are again reminded of the need to park sensibly in order
