Youth Group: As many of you are aware that Luigi Manente, our former Youth Minister, has stepped down from his position so he can spend more time with his wife and family. At this time, I would like to thank Luigi for his time and dedication to the Youth of our parish over the past four years. I also wanted to announce that we have hired a new youth minister, Mrs. Dawn Nelson, who teaches 7 th Grade Religious Education on Monday nights at Our Lady of the Lake Church. Starting on Monday, March 21, regular Respect Life meetings will begin again and occur every third Monday of each month after the 7:30PM Novena Mass (approx. 8:30PM) in the Carriage House. These meetings will be open to any parishioner who is interested in understanding more deeply and in helping to promote the Church’s teaching on the dignity of all human life, on marriage and on the family here at our parish. If you have any questions regarding our parish’s Respect Life Group, again please feel free to contact me. Again, please look to our parish bulletin, announcements after Mass, our parish website (www.stjamesapostle.org) , and our parish Flocknote email notices for further information in the coming weeks regarding events happening this spring and also for information on future pilgrimages that are being planned in honor of the Year of Mercy. ST. SEBASTIAN’S TERRACE AND COLUMBARIUM

182 purchased - 270 Niches still available

Our Terrace and Columbarium are open. We have already celebrated Mass at the new Altar and have 89 niches engraved and interred. The price of a niche is $2,500, which gives you the right to inter the cremains of two people. If you have been thinking of purchasing a niche, and would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Mrs. Maureen Larkin at 845-225-2079 on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. For those of you not familiar with a Columbarium, it is a Latin word that describes a collection of niches to house urns containing cremated human remains. Usually inscribed with the person’s name and dates of birth and death, columbaria are constructed to serve as permanent resting places for our loved ones in a ‘churchyard’ or landscaped terrace. May the Lord who has blessed this project now be a final resting place for many of our loved ones.

Letter from St. James Confirmation Candidates Each Confirmation Candidate was asked to write a personal letter indicating their desire to be confirmed. Please pray for these young people as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

My name is Christian Sardo and I am 12 years old. My family includes my mom and dad and 3 siblings; 2 brothers, Andrew and Dylan, and 1 sister, Daniela. My Nonno and Nonna live with us too. I will be in the 8th grade at GFMS in the fall. I worked very hard this past year and have attained honor roll status 3 times. I wish to continue to work hard and continue getting good grades. In school, I am very interested in science. My other interests include robotics and soccer. I hope to play for the modified team this fall. I have played travel soccer for Brewster and have done some training. I also play drums along with all my siblings. I play French horn in the school band. I also love to ski and go to the beach.

Being a Catholic is important to me because it helps me to learn about God and Jesus. My mother tells me it is important to be a good Catholic. She tells me to listen to God in prayer and in church and to obey God and his commandments. She sets an example for me to go to confession and supports me in my confirmation. My Nonna has taught me and my sibling’s prayers in Italian since we were very little. Whenever we misbehave, she quietly tries to tell us that maybe we shouldn’t be doing that. She tries to encourage us to make the right decisions. I don’t like what she has to say sometimes, but I know she’s right. I altar serve with my brother Andrew. My job as an altar server helps me to stay focused at church and listen more to the mass. Participating in the mass helps me understand more, and better, of what the mass is about; learning, listening to the word, celebrating the Eucharist and being part of a community.

After 8 years of instruction in our faith, I have one unanswered question. How did God come to be? It’s a concept that is very hard to figure out, logically without faith. Where, when and how did it all begin? I attend mass every Sunday. I never miss mass unless I am sick. We are not allowed to skip mass because we shouldn’t. All 8 of us go together unless someone has a soccer game. Sometimes it’s hard to pay attention the whole time, that’s why I like to serve at mass. I promise to participate in mass and continue altar serving after confirmation.

I feel that I am ready to receive the sacrament of Confirmation because I always go to mass and have attended all my classes. I have participated in both mass and class. When I pray at home, I have faith that God will answer my prayers and he does. I want to do what God and Jesus want me to do. With the gifts of the Holy Spirit, I can do it.

Readings for the Second Sunday of Lent First Reading: Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 - God told Abram that he would give him the land of Egypt and his descendants would become a great people. Abram then made sacrifices to God, cutting them in half. A torch passed between the pieces, as a visible sign to Abram of God's promise. Second Reading: Philippians 3:17-4:1 - Paul urges the Philippians to avoid becoming too interested in material possessions. He reminds them that their most important wealth is their faith in Jesus, which will lead them to eternal life. Gospel: Luke 9:28b-36 - Jesus took Peter, John and James to a mountain to pray. When his clothes grew incredibly white, Moses and Elijah appeared. They spoke of the scripture he was to fulfill. Then a cloud came down and a voice said, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him." The disciples who had seen Jesus' glory did not disclose this experience to anyone until much later.

This year, the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal will aim to, once again, raise $20 million. Cardinal Dolan recently sent a letter to all parishioners, asking them to sacrificially give to the 2016 Appeal. He reminds us that, “During this Jubilee Year, our work is even more important. It is urgent that we continue to care for the more than 2.6 million Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of New York.” Last year we raised $20,253,814 from the generosity of 60,425 households. We hope that we can once again come together as an archdiocesan community of faith to support the 2016 Cardinal’s Appeal. Because of your dedication to the Appeal, the archdiocese is able to provide for countless people across our ten counties. The Cardinal’s Appeal Vespers Event was highlighted in the January 21st edition of Catholic New York. Held at St. Joseph parish in Somers, Cardinal Dolan led a solemn evening prayer and thanked donors for their support to the 2015 Cardinal’s Appeal.
