Head Teacher:

Neil Blackwell

Like most of you, I can’t wait to be back at school full-time! December seems a lifetime

ago and hopefully we will see every child again next week as we take the first steps to

being ‘normal’ again.

Please can I ask your patience and co-operation as we put back in place our systems for

Reopening. The staggered start and finish times are an essential part of preventing the

School site from becoming too crowded. Please also continue to wear a face covering on

the school premises and limit the number of adults who drop off and collect, ideally

using the same one person each day.

In school, we will continue to prioritise hand washing and respiratory hygiene (Catch It,

Kill it, Bin it!). Children will still be in year group bubbles to limit social contact but will have full use of the school grounds

for plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Please let me know if you have any concerns so that we can ensure a healthy and safe return to school for everyone!

Wishing you all the very best,

Neil Blackwell

From the Head Teacher

Just before Christmas Years 4, 5 and 6 did an Anti-Bullying questionnaire and from it we learned that very little bullying actually happens in school; it is actually more likely to happen outside school. This is echoed by the following message received over Half Term from Thames Valley Police:

“Thames Valley Police Schools’ Officers have evidence that incidents of cyberbullying have increased in Oxfordshire during lockdown as many young people are using digital platforms not just for their own personal use but for learning too.

As a parent/carer, it is important that you speak with your child about being safe and kind to others online. If children are

not risk aware and supported in being safe online, there is a danger that they could become a victim of crime, commit

criminal offences or get themselves involved in criminal behaviour without knowing. “

At St Leonard’s we identify bullying as something which happens Several Times On Purpose.

We STOP bullying by: Start Telling Other People – this is important whether children are currently in-school or at home. Last week everyone took part in Anti-Bullying activities in order to reinforce these messages.

Anti-Bullying Message

Reading remains a whole school priority and I’m so pleased with everyone who has continued to read (and read!) at home.

In the last 3 weeks 170 children have moved up a level including several children who were not with us in September.

The children who have reached Violet will now start the Reading Bingo Challenge, where they are asked to read a variety of

different books. Teachers will contact parents with this information via our online platforms.

Reading Rainbow continued….

This Thursday is World Book Day and all

children whether in school or at home

can dress up as their favourite

character. It would be lovely if children

could create a reading den on this day

and take a photograph of themselves

reading their favourite book and send it into their class

teacher. In school there will be a Reading Relay as each

class writes a bit of a story and passes it on. There will also

be a competition to guess the Secret Readers, as teachers

hide behind their book. All children should have received

their £1 book token by email, if you have not received this

– please contact the school office.

Safer Internet Day was on 9 February. With children (and adults!) spending more and more time online it’s worth spending time with them to ensure that they know how to be safe. The CEOP site ThinkUKnow is very good https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ and will give parents the knowledge they need to feel comfortable having conversations around difficult things. Please do set up parental controls on gadgets if you are able.
