L E A R N I N G F O R L I F E FROM THE HEADMASTER Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our Harvest collection. Yesterday, Thomas, Charlotte and I delivered the items and I know that they were all gratefully received. It is hard to believe that we have arrived at half-term! We are looking forward to seeing everyone arrive back in November. Very best wishes for a refreshing break. CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS On Wednesday we celebrated the official launch of our 3 to 18 Music Department. It was great to see and hear the baton being passed from Lynda Edwards to Ros Shaw. Lynda also played bassoon in both performances. YEAR 1 TRIP TO ESCOT Year 1 had an amazing adventure at Escot. The children showed great resilience when exploring the swamp and learnt about the clever ways wild animals, such as wolves, red foxes, squirrels and wild boar, use their senses. The children then had to use all their senses to escape the maze! 18 October 2019

BIATHLON AT MILLFIELD We are celebrating a great result from the biathlon competition at Millfield last weekend. Nerys Jones won a silver medal in the under 11 girls category behind the European Champion! Lewie Harrison and Freya Ashford both enjoyed great races, as well. OUTDOOR LEARNING On Tuesday, Year 4 went up to our beautiful forest school site for an Autumnal morning of outdoor learning. The children worked in groups with Mr Renyard, learning about lighting stoves and cooking outdoors. They then worked with Mrs Middleton and looked at examples of art created by outdoor artists like Andy Goldsworthy, Mikael Hansen, Nils Udo, and Caroline Laengerer, before creating art of their own in small groups. The children looked for things they could find in the forest school environment and were inspired by colour, texture, and shape to make their own masterpieces. After a delicious lunch of vegetable and sausage casserole cooked by Mrs Brooke-Webb, we all returned to school. 4M headed back outside for the afternoon to Mrs Cadwallader’s garden where they had an outdoor art lesson, thinking about composition ready for creating landscape pictures after half-term. A great day of fresh air and Autumn sunshine was had by all. BOOK FAIR Many thanks to all the children and parents who supported our Book Fair last week. It was lovely to see so many of you there and have the opportunity to discuss and suggest books to try. Your incredible generosity has resulted in the school being awarded just over £500 in new books from Scholastic! The new books will find their way onto the shelves over the coming months and will also help to support our exciting new Reading Challenges for this year. We look forward to seeing you again at the Book Fair next year! Thank you. YEAR 5 VISIT THE ROMAN BATHS Year 5 had a fantastic time visiting the Roman baths in Bath. After an interesting workshop, involving dressing as a Roman, creating a mosaic and handling 2000-year-old artefacts from the baths, the children toured the museum. As it was quite a chilly day, the steam rose atmospherically from the water. Listening to the information at each stopping point, we absorbed a lot of fascinating information and are looking forward to writing stories set in the baths after half term.
