DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE

TROUBLED

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me” (v. 1). This invitation of Jesus to the apostles is the same invi-tation he gives to each of us. And yet, our hearts are troubled. Why? For Thomas it was the desire, the need to have clarity about what lay ahead for him, for all of them. What was the path like? Where was it going? Where was Jesus going? For Phillip is seems to also be a question of being in control. “Master, show us the other, and that will be enough for us” (v. 8). “Just give us certain-ty, clarity, control, and we’ll believe” he says. “That’s all we ask!” Looking back from where we stand in history, both of their responses might seem outrageous. Jesus, after all, is God, our Savior, and he was go-ing home to his Father in heaven to prepare a place for his disciples. But how different are we, really, from these troubled disciples? Do we not hold on to controlling our lives? How often we even fool ourselves into believing that we are in charge, in control. Sometimes our own hearts are troubled about the future, about what is going to become of us tomorrow? This gospel message is one of hope and of how much we are care for and loved. And Jesus seems to understand what a difficult message it is for us to believe. For he says that if they cannot believe his words, look at his actions, the works he has done. Jesus says to us exactly what he said to Thomas and Philip: “Do not let your hearts be troubled” (v. 1). That invitation, that command-ment could be our daily meditation for the rest of our lives: “Do not let your hearts be troubled” (v. 1). Yours in Christ,

NO DEJEN QUE SUS CORAZONES SE TURBEN

“No turbe su corazón. Tenga fe en Dios; Tengan fe también en mí "(v.1). Esta invitación de Jesús a los apóstoles es la misma invitación que nos da a cada uno de nosotros. Y sin embargo, nuestros corazones están turbados. ¿Por qué? Para Tomás fue el deseo, la necesidad de tener claro lo que le esperaba a él y a todos los demás. ¿Cómo era el camino? ¿A dónde iba? ¿Adónde iba Jesús? Para Felipe parecía también ser una cuestión de control. "Maestro, muéstranos lo otro, y eso será suficiente" (v.8). "Sólo danos la certeza, la claridad, el control, y creeremos", dice. ¡Eso es todo lo que pedimos! Mirando hacia atrás desde donde nos situamos en la historia, ambas respuestas nos pueden parecer escandalosas. Jesús, después de todo, es Dios, nuestro Salvador, y se fue al cielo a la casa del Pa-dre para preparar un lugar para sus discípulos. Pe-ro, ¿realmente cuán diferentes somos de estos preocupados discípulos? ¿No nos aferramos al control de nuestras vidas? Con qué frecuencia nos engañamos a nosotros mismos en la creencia de que estamos a cargo, en control. ¿A veces nuestros propios corazones están preocupados por el futu-ro, por lo que va a ser de nosotros mañana? Este mensaje del evangelio es uno de esperanza y de cuánto somos cuidados y amados. Jesús parece entender lo difícil que es para nosotros creer en este mensaje. Por lo que dice que, si no pueden creer sus palabras, miren sus acciones, las obras que ha hecho. Jesús nos dice exactamente lo que le dijo a Tomás y Felipe: "No turbe vuestro corazón" (v.1). Esa invitación, ese mandamiento podría ser nuestra meditación diaria para el resto de nuestras vidas: "No llenen su corazón de preocupación" (v.1).

LIFEHOUSE GARDEN AND GROUNDS

Please consider joining the many garden friends from local parishes that volunteer to help with the maintenance of LifeHouse/Catholic Charities' grounds and raised vegetable beds. Our work day for this month is Thursday, May 25th, from 8-10. June's work day will coincide with United Way's Day of Caring on Thursday, June 22 from 8:30-12. Volunteers for Day of Caring must fill out a 2017 waiver form with United Way at igfn.us/f/q0a/n. The name of our business/organization is Jana and Friends. We find ourselves in need of a couple of very reliable adult volunteers to stay at the camp grounds from Friday evening until Sunday morning before the first session and between the other sessions of camp. Your responsibilities would include: • Going through the cabins and collecting any items left be-hind from campers. • Laundering the towels from the kitchen for the week (going into town to the Laundromat) • Helping camp cook with any special cleanup projects in the kitchen area • Being a pres-ence at the campsite Special perks you receive from volunteering: • Free lodging at one of the most beau-tiful areas in Missouri • We will have some basic sandwich “fixings” on hand, but you may want to bring your own food. • Trails to hike • Fishing The following dates are still available. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Area-wide Catholic Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Se-

ton for all Catholic Parishes, June 25-29, 6:008:30 p.m. each evening. The theme for this year’s VBS is “Maker Fun factory/Created by God, Built for Purpose”. This is for kids in Kindergarten thru 4th grade. There will be a SPECIAL Program for 5th & 6th Graders. Grades 7 and up are welcome as volunteers! $15 per child (scholarship available). There is a nursery and pre-school for children of volunteers. Many adult and youth volunteers will be needed to help during the week of VBS. If your church club/ committee or family, or you as an individual would like to volunteer, see dis-play on Information Table. Training is June 21, 6:00 p.m. at SEAS. VACACIONES BIBLICAS ESCOLARES

Las Vacaciones Bíblica de las Escuelas Católi-cas (VBS) para todas las parroquias serán en

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, el 25-29 de junio, cada noche de 6 a 8:30 pm. El tema para este año será: “Crea-dor de la Fábrica de la diversión / Creado por Dios, cons-truido para un propósito.” Está dirigido a niños desde el Kindergarten hasta el cuarto grado. Habrá un Programa ESPECIAL para estudiantes de 5to y 6to grado. ¡Los gra-dos 7 y mas son bienvenidos como voluntarios! El costo es de $15 por niño (beca disponible).
