TRUST/CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP

For most of us, tension and anxiety are part of life. All our technology and the conveniences of modern life have not made our daily lives easy. Worries and fears cause emotional and physical health problems that sap our lives of joy and peace. Jesus has a message for all of us who are consumed by our fears and anxieties: Do not worry about your life” (v.25); and even harder to hear, “You cannot serve God and mammon” (v.24). How are we to re-spond to these words? Surely, Jesus knows we must support our families and have money to pay our bills. But are we giving ourselves to the pursuit of money? Are we satisfied or are we forever accumu-lating more possessions, greater luxuries? This gospel asks for the deep trust of people of faith who truly believe that God’s love and care provide for all our needs. One of the keys to this gospel may be Jesus’ advice. “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides” (v.33). Perhaps if we were seeking only God’s way, “…your kingdom come, your will be done” (Matthew 6:10), we would be able to find real joy and contentment in our lives, and understand clearly God’s call to us to share our abundance with those in need. We do know that God does not want the human family to suffer hunger. Toward the end of Mat-thew’s Gospel, Jesus clearly tells us that those who have fed, clothed, and comforted the needy will re-ceive God’s blessing and inherit the kingdom, and those who have not cared for others will not be with God (Matthew 25:31-46). In our modern world, our faith should enable us to trust in God’s care and to become instruments of God’s care for others. God provides for all through us. We, God’s Church, are called beyond self-concern, to be the hands and heart of God in the world. Yours in Christ,

CONFIANZA/MAYORDOMIA CRISTIANA

Para la mayoría de nosotros, el estrés y la ansiedad son parte de la vida. Toda nuestra tecnología y comodi-dades de la vida moderna no han hecho nuestra vida diaria fácil. Las preocupaciones y los miedos causan problemas de salud emocionales y físicos que agotan nuestras vidas de alegría y paz. Jesús tiene un mensaje para todos nosotros que es-tamos consumidos por nuestros temores y ansie-dades: No te preocupes por tu vida "(v.25); y aún más difícil de oír, "No puedes servir a Dios y a las riquezas" (v.24). ¿Cómo vamos a responder a estas palabras? Se-guramente, Jesús sabe que debemos apoyar a nuestras familias y tener dinero para pagar nuestras cuentas. ¿Pero nos hemos entregados a la búsqueda del dinero? ¿Estamos satisfechos o estamos por siempre acu-mulando más posesiones, y más lujos? Este evangelio pide la confianza profunda de las per-sonas de fe que realmente creen que el amor y el cuida-do de Dios proveerán para todas sus necesidades. Una de las claves de este evangelio puede ser el consejo de Jesús. “Buscar primeramente el Reino de Dios y su jus-ticia, y todas las cosas les serán dadas a cambio.” (v.33). Tal vez si buscáramos solo el camino de Dios, “…Venga su reino, hágase su voluntad” (Mateo 6:10), seriamos capaces de encontrar verdadero gozo y alegría en nuestras vidas, y de comprender claramente el llamado de Dios a nosotros de compartir nues-tra abundancia con los necesitados. Sabemos que Dios no quiere que la familia humana sufra hambre. Hacia el final del Evangelio de Mateo, Jesús nos dice claramente que aquellos que han alimen-tado, vestido y consolado a los necesitados recibirán la bendición de Dios y heredarán el reino, y aquellos que no han cuidado de otros no estarán con Dios (Mateo 25:31-46) En nuestro mundo moderno, nuestra fe debe permitir-nos confiar en el cuidado de Dios y convertirnos en instrumentos de cuidado de Dios para con los demás. Dios provee a todos a través de nosotros. Nosotros, la Iglesia de Dios, somos llamados más allá de la auto-compasión, a ser las manos y el corazón de Dios en el mundo. De ustedes en Cristo,

This past week, February 18th/19th —our 34th week of the fiscal year, we sold over $900 in cards With last week, we have sold over $459,000 SCRIP cards and made Sacred Heart over $14,000 since 2012. We are on track to sell over $80,000 in cards this fiscal year and make the church over $3,100. We have 175 “customers” in our SCRIP program. We need to continue this pace to make this program successful.

On Friday evenings during Lent, we will again have our traditional “Soup and Stations.” It is always nice to gather in fellowship for a light meal before entering the Church for the Stations of the Cross. The dinner will start at 6:00 pm followed at 7:00 pm by the Stations. Please plan on joining us during this time of Lent, we always have wonderful soups, breads, crackers, etc. The dates are: March 3 (Heart to Heart group), March 10 (Need volun-teers), March 17 (PSR/RCIA) March 24 (Parish Council), March 31 (Fundraising Committee) and March 7th (Hispanic volunteers).

GUIDELINES FOR TUITION ASSISTANCE

If you wish to apply for Tuition Assistance (Lela Page Scholarship) from Sacred Heart Parish during the 2017-2018 school year

you must: 1. Be an active member of Sacred Heart Parish. This includes attending the Weekend Masses and a time/talent stewardship such as a lector, server, Eucharistic Minister, or help with funeral dinners, Par-ish Council, landscaping, church cleaning, etc. 2. Before applying for tuition assistance, be signed up to attend St. Joseph Academy, be involved in the educational process of your child, attend school func-tions and support St. Joseph Catholic Academy in as many areas as possible. 3. Be signed up to attend Springfield Catholic School before applying for tuition assistance. 4. Apply for Tuition Assistance directly to Father Gaspar no later than May 5, 2017. You MUST contact the office and schedule an appointment with Fr. Gas-par before any tuition assistance will be considered. 5. Be signed up for FACTS Grant & Aid and pro-vide a copy of the information to Fr. Gaspar. Our tuition assistance funds are limited and avail-able to only those who really need the financial assistance and who follow the guidelines. Receiving assistance last school year does not guarantee assistance for this school year. Applicants must complete the Grant and Aid Assessment and submit the necessary supporting documentation to FACTS Management.

SACRED HEART TRIVIA NIGHT

Sacred Heart will hold their Sixth An-nual Trivia Night on Saturday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Entry fee is $10 per person. We will start serving food at 6:00 pm so come and enjoy the best Reuben sandwiches, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, and hot dogs! The cost for a sandwich, chips, and a drink is only $5.00. 2017 BISHOP'S WALK for CATHOLIC CHARITIES of SOUTHERN MISSOURI

The 2017 Bishop's Walk for Catholic Charities will be Sat., April 1, and Bishop Edward M. Rice will walk in Springfield. Get a group together at your parish and walk to help neighbors in need! The Bishop's Walk is a fun, community-building event, and an opportunity to observe the Lenten practice of almsgiving. All proceeds support the programs of Catholic Charities. In the past, many parishes walked at or near their property, at a city park, or local school. You are welcome to combine efforts with a neighboring parish and host a joint walk. Bishop Rice will present traveling trophies for greatest percentage of parishioner participation and most money raised. La Caminata del Obispo 2017 pro Caridades Católicas será el sábado, 1 de abril, y el obispo Edward M. Rice caminará en Springfield. ¡Formen un grupo de su pa-rroquia y caminen para ayudar a vecinos en necesidad! La Caminata del Obispo es un evento divertido, cons-truyendo comunidad, y una oportunidad para observar la práctica Cuaresmal de limosna. Todas las ganancias serán para apoyan los programas de Caridades Católi-cas. En el pasado, muchas parroquias caminaron en o cerca de su propiedad, en un parque de la ciudad, o escuela local. Applicant must be a practicing Roman Catholic.
