ISSUE 13 – 10 September, 2020 FROM THE PRINCIPALS DESK Dear Parents and Carers, With just over a week left of Term 3, we are nearly there! Under normal school operations, we hold Education Extravaganza Week to celebrate the end of Term 3. This year is no exception, although it will be held remotely while the students are learning from home. Education Extravaganza Week is an opportunity for students to participate in a range of activities that will connect with the theme of the day. While this is a great opportunity for the students to have some fun interacting with teachers, class and small group zooms will continue. It is fair to say this year has been a challenging year for all of us, myself included. For some of our families and students, juggling working and learning from home has been difficult to manage whilst trying to maintain a balanced and normal family life. Over the term I have had many conversations with parents about how children and families are coping with our current circumstances. It has been great to hear that some families are coping and doing the best they can, while sadly others are really struggling. Now more than ever it is important for all of us to stay connected and for those who are able and willing, support those around us. This could be family, friends and/or neighbours. R U OK? Day is Thursday 10 th September 2020. On the school website you will find the R U OK? Day guide which takes you through four conversation steps: Ask then Listen, encourage Action and Check in. This is a great resource for our current circumstances, and I encourage you all to take a look. School Oval I have created a short slide show of photos of the school oval project over the past 10 months. The oval is looking great! The only thing missing are the goal posts and they are on the way!! I will put the slide show on the website shortly. Term 4 The roadmap released by the Premier indicates that students in Years P – 2 will return to school in week 2 of Term 4 and Years 3 – 6 potentially in week 4. We are currently planning for this staggered start to Term 4. Leadership have been reviewing parent, student and staff feedback from the recent surveys to continue to modify and improve remote learning for our students. I will provide parents with more details and greater clarity around remote learning in the first week of Term 4. Enjoy the rest of your week and the weekend. I look forward to seeing our students in zoom lessons over the remainder of the term. Kind regards, Julie O’Brien Principal

ISSUE 13 – 10 September, 2020

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Parents and Carers,

With just over a week left of Term 3, we are nearly there! Under normal school operations,

we hold Education Extravaganza Week to celebrate the end of Term 3. This year is no

exception, although it will be held remotely while the students are learning from home.

Education Extravaganza Week is an opportunity for students to participate in a range of

activities that will connect with the theme of the day. While this is a great opportunity for

the students to have some fun interacting with teachers, class and small group zooms will

continue.

It is fair to say this year has been a challenging year for all of us, myself included. For some

of our families and students, juggling working and learning from home has been difficult to

manage whilst trying to maintain a balanced and normal family life.

Over the term I have had many conversations with parents about how children and

families are coping with our current circumstances. It has been great to hear that some

families are coping and doing the best they can, while sadly others are really struggling.

Now more than ever it is important for all of us to stay connected and for those who are

able and willing, support those around us. This could be family, friends and/or neighbours.

R U OK? Day is Thursday 10th September 2020. On the school website you will find the R U

OK? Day guide which takes you through four conversation steps: Ask then Listen,

encourage Action and Check in. This is a great resource for our current circumstances,

and I encourage you all to take a look.

School Oval

I have created a short slide show of photos of the school oval project over the past 10

months. The oval is looking great! The only thing missing are the goal posts and they are on

the way!! I will put the slide show on the website shortly.

Term 4

The roadmap released by the Premier indicates that students in Years P – 2 will return to

school in week 2 of Term 4 and Years 3 – 6 potentially in week 4. We are currently planning

for this staggered start to Term 4. Leadership have been reviewing parent, student and

staff feedback from the recent surveys to continue to modify and improve remote

learning for our students. I will provide parents with more details and greater clarity around

remote learning in the first week of Term 4.

Enjoy the rest of your week and the weekend. I look forward to seeing our students in

zoom lessons over the remainder of the term.

Kind regards,

LANGUAGES

I hope everyone is well and enjoying some time outside in the glorious weather. Let us hope it

stays like this for the holidays…not long now. ☺

Junior School CI: Earth Cycles

Over the last few weeks, we have been complimenting the classroom Units of Inquiry work by

looking at simple life cycles and the water cycle during our Zoom LOTE lessons. Please enjoy

the student’s recreations of a variety of simple ‘cycles de la vie’ and ‘le cycle de l’eau.’

Middle School CI: Literary Arts

In the middle school, we have been looking at traditional stories and different forms of

poetry. The students have played with creating poetry in the shape of its subject (calligram)

and using their knowledge of French colours to produce Poésie de couleur.

Kira 4P and Jackson 4P were kind enough to share their work.

Rouge Rouge – rouge

J’aime le rouge,

Rouge comme la pomme.

Rouge comme la rose.

Kira Jackson Senior School CI: Choices Shape the Environment

The senior school discussed the role of plants on the environment.

We looked at vocabulary to enable students to talk about the

environment in German. Amelia 6E sent her completed planting

order.

Thank you to all the students who shared their work with us. ☺

Spring by Reilly 3S

Buds and shoots appear.

Flowers, warmth, sunshine and rain.

Summer’s almost here.

Spring Sensory Poem

I see blossoms, fluffy as clouds,

sprouting out delicately.

I smell fragrant freesias faintly

through my mask.

I touch falling wattle riding along

the wind.

I taste some pollen landing on my

tongue, falling off the trees.

I feel an awakening feeling rushing

through my entire body.

THE SEASON OF BEAUTY

I walk outside in the bright cool air,

The flowers deserve a wide-eyed stare.

Winter is over now, come out creatures,

So we can admire your beautiful features.

Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming,

Nothing would need the slight bit of

grooming.

Nature is beautiful, life is amazing,

I’d stop all in time just for gazing.

All of the animals come out to play,

Day and night, night and day.

The sun is shining, goodbye cold,

All can enjoy it young and old.

It makes me happy, makes me want to sing,

I really love the season Spring.

The Magic Nest

I will put into the nest some colourful eggs.

Inside the eggs are some delicate birds.

They are marvelous birds.

They are the light in the dark night.

I will put into the nest some downy fur,

Fluffy as a kitten’s tummy.

It has warmth all through it

To comfort the eggs through the cold winter.

I will put into the nest some beautiful chicks.

Their excited chirps are asking for food.

Scared worms and shiny beetles become dinner.

“Munch! Munch! Munch! What’s for dessert?”

When spring comes, the chicks start to fly.

Falling down but trying again and again.

They fail many times

But mistakes help them grow.

Spring Poem

Spring, Spring

When it comes I could sing

It brings so much fun

Sometimes rain sometimes sun.

Spring, Spring

What a wonderful thing

The flowers come out and

Baby animals are about.

Spring, Spring

They’re are birds on the wing

This season fly’s by so quick

Summer will come in just a tick.

Maeve 4A

Bee’s I love peas.

But I’m afraid of bees.

Because they eat from flowers that make me

sneeze.

Please don’t squeeze your poison at me.

My foot could swell.

Then I would be screaming

OUCHY!!

Having sore feet

Is definitely not a treat

If my foot was swollen

Is it full of pollen?

Could my foot fall off my leg?

Oh my Mr. Bee please I beg

DON’T BITE ME!!

Georgie’s Spring Poem

Spring, spring is almost here, The sky is blue and the ocean is clear. The season where the flowers bloom, And all of the bugs come out so soon. The rain falls down, So people have a frown, When the sun comes out, They are up and about. When the animals are born, They walk on the lawn, But when it’s raining, People need more entertaining. Spring, spring is already here, People are out in their spring gear.

Rhyming Poem by Georgie 4R

Spring has sprung (song)

Spring has sprung,

it’s time to have fun in the sun

Slap on that sunscreen,

it’s time to have fun in the sun

Run through the sprinkler, move those feet,

time to have fun in the sun

The flowers are blooming,

time to moving, lets have fun in the sun

Spring writing celebration By Samantha 5D

As rays of sunshine warm up my body, I look down the hill and see glistening water.

Water splashing around from the zipping speed boats and the city standing on the horizon with the

buildings sparkling.

Seagulls chirping for chips underneath the ocean sky.

All around me there are pink snowflakes drifting down from trees.

Flowers welcoming the sun to warm the nectar.

I stop at the Scout Hall whilst a family of ducks walks in front of me.

How many chicks will survive this year?

In my head I picture the scouts getting Christmas trees ready for people to buy.

Now I’m getting ahead of myself!

I glance over my shoulder and see the cold misery of winter fading.

Dark grey clouds everywhere, shivers down my spine, while bitter cold breezes drift all around me.

Thunder and lighting and the trees are bare.

No colour, no joy.

Just sadness.

Nature

It’s a wonderful thing

We step outside and it is all there

The flowers are blooming in the sunlight

The grass greener than green

The trees swaying in the wind

Rocking side-to-side

Birds soaring across the sky like there is no tomorrow

Bees collecting nectar from the flowers

And me seeing everything that is going on in my

backyard

Spring Rap

Spring... is the season of new, The grass is green and the skies are blue.

Spring… the flowers bloom, Some clear nights you can see the full moon.

When Spring arrives on the very first day, It’s my birthday and I say “Hooray!”

Some days the rain comes down, But it only happens when the sky has a frown.

The weather gets better and the sun shines bright, It makes people happy when they see the sunlight.

In Spring the flowers grow

And the windy air flows.

In Spring the birds sing

And the lovely bells bing.

In Spring it makes me sneeze

Because of the very soft breeze.

In Spring I’m outside more

Because inside is just a bore.

The Foal and the Flowers

Once upon a time there was a foal. Her name was Willow and she was white. She went for a walk and found a bunch of flowers. She picked some and gave them to her mum and dad. The flowers had butterflies in them. The butterflies were so pretty be-cause they had very bright wings that were the colour of flowers. Then Willow went back to the meadow where she had found the flowers. It was nice there. The grass was covered in dew. There were but-terflies everywhere and the flowers were beautiful. She thought she could get some for her friends. She got some flowers and brought them to her friends. They loved them.

The Magic Spring Box

I will put in the box,

The warm ray of sunshine beaming from the sky

The lovely fragrance of the soft velvet roses growing in

mum’s garden

The fresh smell of cut grass as I ride on it with my scooter.

I will put in the box,

Crisp fresh cut vegetables from our green veggie patch

The sweet smelling scent of the jasmine vines

The earthy dirt from my hands digging in the soil

I will put in the box,

The nice singing sounds of the Australian birds

The salty smell and taste of a sea breeze

The screeching sounds of our animals playing and fighting

in the sun

The smell of spring flowers and the taste of sea breezes

My dog’s rough tongue licking the back of my leg

Dirt under my tiny fingernails

Bring back memories of me playing outside in the spring.

By Leo 3T

Poem by Lucas 5S

Spring brings so much joy,

To every girl and boy

Sunshine and warmer days,

Daisies and daffodils

Flowers of all kinds

Bursting into bloom.

Pollen and nectar

Brings birds and buzzing insects

The air is full of sounds

And the sweet smells of Spring.

Colourful birds

Enjoying a Spring Smorgasbord!

Swooping magpies

Defending their nests,

Watch out people or you will get

pecked!

Springtime means freedom,

From those cold winter days.

We can go outside and play, play, play.

I love Spring,

It has Father’s Day.

The Grand Final

And Melbourne Cup Day.

Goodbye Winter!

Hello Spring!

Lets go dancing in a Fairy Ring!

MAM NEWS

Mrs O’Brien came to visit our class. We all got dressed up in funny hats and glasses. Some of

us made signs to welcome Mrs O’Brien. We asked her questions like ‘What it is like at school?’

We had fun and enjoyed seeing Mrs O’Brien in her moustache!

The best day of spring! The day I got expelled from homeschool!

It was Tuesday morning and Ben was at his desk. His

daughter Tilly had just come in to say hello.

Ben told tilly about a writing task she had to do for Mrs

Stoller (a teacher she had in year 3).

“What!!” argued Tilly “I have enough work this week I

don't need anymore”.

“Right” said Ben, “you are expelled!!!!”

So Tilly got expelled from homeschool!
