Main image• This is the main image I have

chosen for my front cover. I love this image and its composition. I thin that angle of the image also works really well with it being the front cover image. It’s a bold image that will work well with white text creating a balanced contrast.

• To edit this image, I started by blacking out the background giving me on colour behind the record to work with. I think changed the image to black and white as the centre of the record was in colour and I didn’t want people to be drawn away from the whole image by the colour in the centre of the image.

The masthead• Next, I added the

masthead to my front cover. I have previously chosen the layout of the masthead and the font that it will be in. I therefore only had to figure out the size of the masthead and how different sizes worked with the main image.

• I decided that all the writing on the front cover will be in white including the masthead.

Main headline• With the main headline I

wanted to keep it bold, simply and easy on the eye. As the whole magazine revolves around the front cover and the story about vinyl records it was important for me to make sure that the main headline was in the centre of the page as this is where peoples eyes are attracted to.

• The only problem that occurred when constructing the main headline was that the white writing didn’t show up on the record, therefore I decided to make it the same grey colour as the base of the record player. This made my headline stand out even more.

Date• I have chosen the date

of March 2015. This date allows me to use objects related to music that have been released already so that I am able to photograph them and use them in my magazine.

• I have also decided to situate the date of my magazine in a clear position, just above the masthead on the right of the page.

Issue 1• As this is a new

music magazine I kept it simple and kept the issue number to 1.

• This is located at the top right of the front cover with the date of release for the magazine

Price• I have placed the

price of the magazine in the top right hand corner with the date and the issue number. I have done this so that all this important information about the magazine is all together and can be easily located.

Barcode construction

• To construct my barcode I went online on to the free barcode generator and created my own short barcode. I then saved the barcode and opened it in Photoshop. I then duplicated the short barcode and made it into a long thin barcode like the ones you see on the front of magazines.

• After I had done this I added the name of the magazine as well as the price to the barcode and placed in in the bottom corner of my magazine front cover.

Changes• Since looking at my main

headline on the front cover, I felt like it was starting to get lost on the page and blending into the background. Therefore, I decided to change the colour completely so I changed the main headline from grey to red.

• With being red, the main headline now draws in more attention and stands out completely from the rest of the front cover.
