INTRODUCTION

Currently a factor for progress is sustainable

economic development combined with

environmental, economic and social

development and the quality of human capital.

Shortage of skilled workers, occurring in the

labor market (according to the U.S. Department

of Science 60% of new types of jobs will

require skills that only 20% of employees

currently possess), is a threat to economic

growth. As a result, the task of universities is to

work with employers on the educational offer

tailored to their needs.

The aim of the project Linguistics for

Environmentally Responsible Business is to

allow the Faculty of Philology of the University

of Lodz to open, a novel M.A. major –

Linguistics for environmentally conscious

Business, offering classes on management,

linguistics, ICT, CSR, social communication and

environmental protection. These studies, along

with BA level Linguistics for Business will allow

students to obtain qualifications in

management of environmentally conscious

business in a market economy.

PROJECT AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of the project is to create

a second degree major to complement the

learning cycle at the undergraduate level

Linguistics for Business major, connecting

universities and the socio-economic

environment. This will create a training system

that will guarantee the exchange of experience

and cooperation between the university and

the labor market, giving the University of Lodz

graduates the opportunity to obtain jobs, and

employers to gain highly skilled workers.

To achieve the main objective we will need to

go through university-business cooperation on

the creation of the field of study and teaching

materials to the needs of enterprises and

companies operating in the local market.

Agendas will include a system of internships

for students to gain experience before they

begin work in companies that will participate in

the project. Previous contacts with the business

community and entrepreneurs and analysis of

questionnaire data on the needs of employers

clearly define what employees are looking for

in local business. The results show that

employers are searching for graduates of neo-

philological studies and those trained in

business management or human capital.

Furthermore, employers search for people who

use at least two languages in everyday

communication, and one specialized language.

Hence the study design fits perfectly into the

labor market demand. It combines education in

the field of management and linguistics

(including specialized language) and realizes

the need for environmentally friendly behavior

in the workplace. The interest group includes

graduates of undergraduate Linguistics for

Business and neo-philological studies,

management or law and those who wish to

complete their education and earn a master’s

degree in applied linguistics, business,

translation studies, glottodidactics – TT (teacher

training), business, management – all in the

environmentally conscious Business context.
