SUBSIDISEDBUS TRAVEL

The College-run bus service is subsidised depending on your household income. In 2015/16 the cost was £150 per term if you have an income of £30,000 or less and £225 per term for an income over that. It is cheaper if you pay for the whole year at £405 or £640 respectively.

TRAVEL BY TRAINThe nearest mainline railway station is Biggleswade, which is served twice-hourly by the Peterborough to London Kings Cross line, stopping at nearby towns. Our Campus is just a 10 minute bus journey (see left) or trip by taxi from Biggleswade station.

TRAVEL BY CAROur Campus benefi ts from ample free parking on site and is a short distance from the nearby towns of Bedford and Biggleswade with access to the major A421 and A1 roads.

ACCOMMODATIONIf travelling to our Shuttleworth College Campus is diffi cult for you, we may be able to offer you a place in our halls of residence. You’ll get your own single study bedroom plus access to a modern common room complete with kitchen facilities, comfy chairs, sofas and TV.

From understanding the content of the course your son or daughter is considering, to knowing how we’ll look after them, we understand that it’s important for you to be in the know.

personal tutor, who will be there to provide continual, one-to-one support, so your son or daughter will get the help they need to perform at their very best. Apprentices will be visited regularly by their training adviser. If at any time during their programme your son or daughter has any concerns or questions, their training adviser will be contactable by phone as advised at the start of the Apprenticeship programme.

How can I keep up to date with my son/daughter’s progress? We know you want to take an active role in their education, so the College sends out regular e-newsletters to parents, holds parents’ consultation evenings and issues student progress reports twice a year. For apprentices, tutors will give feedback in College and reviews will be organised by the training adviser to take place in the workplace. The adviser will confi rm details of targets set and provide feedback to the apprentice and the employer. The adviser will also notify the employer regarding attendance and progress on the course. A copy of the progress review document will be given to the apprentice and the employer.

What does Ofsted think of Bedford College?The College was last inspected by Ofsted in March 2014 and graded ‘Good’. Features that were mentioned in the report included: • An excellent learning environment with very good resources.• Teachers have excellent links with industry, which helps students gain industry-related skills to prepare them skilfully for the world of work.• Many students progress well on to employment or Apprenticeships.

How many students progress on to work or continue in education?An impressive 94% of our students continue in further study or go on to paid employment after College.

We live outside of Bedfordshire. Can my son/daughter still come to Bedford College?Yes. Unlike the school application process, college places are not based on where you live.

Are the term dates similar to school and how long is a typical day?College terms are slightly shorter than school terms; typically starting in the middle of

September and ending in the middle of June. See page 2 for 2016-2017 term dates. The College day typically runs from 9.00am until 4.30pm.Apprenticeships can start at different times of the year, but apprentices will still only study in College during term time.

My son/daughter required extra support with their studies at school. Will they be able to access similar support at College? Yes. We have a fantastic additional support team for those students and apprentices with particular needs, such as dyslexia, hearing or visual impairment. We can also provide access to specialist equipment or help in developing assignment skills, for example.

My son/daughter has always received free school meals. Will they have to pay for their lunches at College?Your son/daughter may be able to continue to receive free meals in the campus restaurants. You can apply for this through the Bursary scheme. See www.bedford.ac.uk/support

Who can my son/daughter turn to when they need help with their studies? All full-time students at our College benefi t from their own

What costs are involved in coming to College? If your son or daughter is aged 16-18 our full-time courses and Apprenticeship programmes are free to study, but coming to College can involve other costs, such as equipment. See www.bedford.ac.uk/support for full-time course cost information.

Will my son/daughter be safe at College?We are committed to meeting our duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. Our teaching and support staff understand what to do in the event of any such concerns, and we have a safeguarding team who are fully-trained in dealing with issues of safety and security involving our students.

TUITION AND EXAM FEESIf you’re a school leaver aged 16-18 years old on 31 August 2016, the tuition fees and any exam registration fees for all of the courses in this prospectus are FREE, except for Access to Higher Education courses where a fee may be charged. SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSThis is a one year intensive course aimed at mature students without the standard qualifi cations to enter higher education. They aim to build the skills, knowledge and confi dence you need to progress on to higher education in the subject area you’re interested in. Our Access courses are recognised by universities across the UK and allow entry on to higher education courses in your chosen specialist area.

You will gain a good introduction to your chosen subject, develop your study skills and increase your confi dence and ability with this level of study. The course takes one year and, on completion, you will gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma. All pathways will include compulsory English and maths, as well as research skills units.

Every one of our Access students in 2014 agreed that tutors have up-to-date subject knowledge and make lessons interesting and enjoyable. Our Business Studies students were recently visited by parliamentary candidates from each party ahead of the 2015 general election and heard the debate between all fi ve political parties, in one room and in one go, at the parliamentary hustings. The students also had a visit from the Editor of the Bedfordshire on Sunday newspaper, to discuss media bias, the challenge of writing good investigative journalism and then getting approval to publish it.

case studycase studyI work part-time as an agency carer but I’ve always wanted to go to

university to study pharmacy, which would enable me to give patients better treatment and make their lives more comfortable.

I really enjoyed chemistry, mathematics and the science practical exercises, and conducting experiments was very interesting. For example in biology we checked the catalyst reaction on human tissue from the heart, lungs and kidneys and in chemistry we did experiments which assessed the synthesis of aspirin.

I also think the research work we did is going to be invaluable when I get to university. Now I know how to research and reference correctly, which is very important at university and not something that is always taught at A-Level.

We enjoy strong industry links, which ensures our students are always ahead of important changes and developments in the sector.

Here on campus, our Animal Unit won the Blue Cross Animals in Education Award in 2013, so you’ll be learning in fi rst class facilities. The Animal Unit strongly supports and encourages the use of innovative learning technologies such as QR codes and augmented reality in helping you make the most of your learning experience whilst at the centre.

Depending on your course, you will have the opportunity to go on local and overseas fi eld trips. Our second year Advanced Level students go on an exciting study tour. Most recently, this was to Holland with visits to the internationally-renowned Burgers’ Zoo, Apeldoorn Primate Park andHarderwijk Dolfi narium.

All students undertake a four week work placement as part of the course, which in some cases leads to employment. Many also volunteer outside of College to help progression on to degree-level studies or employment.

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSOur Art & Design students not only produce great work, it’s award-winning work. Year on year our HND Graphic Design students beat UK universities in industry-set challenges for creative solutions in advertising and marketing. This year we have topped all records by taking six awards in the European YCN awards where international companies like Santander, Syfy, Save the Children and Topdeck Travel sought solutions to business challenges.

As a student, you too will have the opportunity to exhibit your work to the public in the College’s spectacular Art & Design End of Year Show, as well as have plenty of opportunities to enter competitions to showcase your talents, enabling you to network with professionals from the industry. Our students often have the chance to work with external businesses. The Art & Design BTEC Foundation Diploma Pre-Degree team, for instance, recently worked with the Selection Manager designer and photographer at John Lewis as part of an inspirational speaker programme.

PHOTOGRAPHERA professional photographer will usually focus on a particular sector, such as social (weddings/portraits), advertising, press and photojournalism, fashion, corporate and scientifi c.

SALARYAssistant photographers can start on around £12,000 – £17,000 a year, while an experienced full-time photographer can earn anything between £18,000 and £50,000 a year.

case studyI’ve really enjoyed learning a wide range of new skills. When you start the course, you don’t need any graphic

design skills, the tutors teach you everything you need to know. I always felt comfortable asking for help if I needed to go over something again. I’ve now become an expert in using important design software such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. We’ve got all the facilities we need here, Mac computers and some photography equipment; again you don’t need to know how to use these before you start College as they teach you everything here.

I’ve found that I’ve become a much more independent thinker and worker since I’ve been at Bedford College which is great and will defi nitely help me when I move into the workplace.

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSAs a Care & Childcare student, you will benefi t from tutors who have previously enjoyed careers as nurses, health visitors, social workers, early years specialists, primary school teachers and care assistants, so you can draw on a huge range of real vocational experience. 94% of our Care & Childcare students feel that they gain skills on their course that can be directly applied to their future career and we hold a care and childcare progression event for our Introductory Level to higher education students where we introduce them to local employers and help them identify employment opportunities within the professions.

You will be involved in a range of charity and fundraising events as a Care & Childcare student, as well as practical and voluntary placement experience. Each year we organise a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa, which is open to all students. In 2015, we went to Keta in Ghana for 10 days to work in two local schools. Our students excelled in teaching English, maths and science to up to 50 children aged 5-15 and 28 aged 6-11 at any one time and also gained plenty of cultural experiences that will be treasured for a lifetime.

This would involve managing staff and making sure the environment is safe and secure for children. You will typically need a childcare qualifi cation at least at Advanced Level and two years’ experience of working with children.

SOCIAL WORKERA social worker helps people of all ages and backgrounds with various issues. To pursue this role, you will need to study a three-year undergraduate degree in social work that is approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

case studyI’ve progressed through all the levels of childcare, initially starting with Foundations Skills as I didn’t have any

qualifi cations when I left school. I’ve spent much of my life looking after my brothers who have special needs, so I know a lot about children and studying this course seemed to make sense.

I’m on a placement now at Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School working as a nursery nurse assistant. I’m involved in planning play activities, observing the children and understanding how we can help each child develop further or if they need help with a specifi c problem.

Now I’m progressing on to the second year of my Childcare Advanced Level qualifi cation there are a lot of options open to me, including getting a job in the sector or going on to higher education.

case studyI wanted to get into IT and saw software development as a good route in. I chose Bedford College because my partner

was enjoying studying there.

I was a mature student, so I was balancing studying with work and bringing up a family. I would often work a night shift, then go into College, then go home and only have a couple of hours sleep before starting work again. It was full on, but worth it. I even managed to gain an Outstanding Achievement Award in IT.

The teachers were amazing and really, really supportive. They would always try to go the extra mile for you. I developed new skills such as programming languages and networking, all practical experience that you can directly apply to the workplace.

I went on to Anglia Ruskin University to study Information Security & Forensic Computing. I got a fi rst in year one, I’m sure as a result of the high standard of teaching I received at the College. The course was really fantastic; I recommend it if you want to get into IT. You really need to have qualifi cations to compete with everyone else, even for the most basic of IT roles.

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSWe ensure that you are at the cutting edge of this exciting subject by teaching you the latest skills and techniques accredited by the world’s leading IT organisations, including Microsoft, CompTIA and Cisco. Our tutors have worked in the IT industry in a wide range of roles including networking, programming, PC maintenance, website development and helpdesk support, so you will benefi t greatly from their expertise and industry knowledge.

Outside of the classroom, educational visits are organised to give you the opportunity to see how IT is used in a real life setting. Last year, a number of visits were arranged including to the Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham, the Science Museum in London, CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research in Geneva, Thorpe Park and Vauxhall.

We also host the prestigious regional Worldskills competitions each year. Our Cisco lab was praised as ‘one of the best’ in the UK by the WorldSkills organisers and recently used to host a warm-up for the WorldSkills IT Networking fi nal to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. For the past two years one of our students has got through to the UK fi nals at the NEC in Birmingham where they had to work under pressure to produce high quality websites and networks, last year scooping a bronze medal.

It is also an area of work with a multitude of job options, including roles in all aspects of business. Our tutors have all enjoyed successful careers in the industry and now take the lead in shaping the UK’s construction and building services training sector, talking at high profi le industry events such as Ecobuild, the leading event for sustainable design, construction, energy and the built environment. This means they have direct input into what you, as a student, will learn to ensure that you stand out from the crowd when it comes to looking for a job. We also have strong links with local employers.

During your course you will work on and produce real life working projects. You will also be taken on trips, experience educational visits and have guest speakers from the industry come into College to help to progress your knowledge and understanding of the construction industry. For instance, Advanced Level Construction students were invited to view the fi rst phases of construction at the new Flitwick Leisure Centre, in order to use the Central Bedfordshire Council development as a live case study in site management. Painting & Decorating students have recently been to the Dulux Decorating Centres and Brickwork students to Hampton Court to see the period brickwork fi rst hand.

BUILDING SURVEYORAdvising clients about the design and construction of new buildings, as well as the repair and maintenance of existing buildings. This includes homes and commercial buildings. To qualify, you will need to complete a degree course accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Our students have gone on to work for major electrical contractors, working on some very exciting and major projects including The Shard, Crossrail and Heathrow Airport. Others have joined Apprenticeship programmes working for the Red Bull Formula One team.

Our students have been on trips to look at how power stations operate, as well as Alton Towers to see how the rides work. They also take part in both internal and external competitions with other colleges throughout the year with great prizes on offer. Engineers are at the forefront of almost every aspect of modern society, designing, building and

shaping the world around us and this is what I want to be a part of. Bedford College has excellent engineering facilities including equipment used in industry and actual aircraft parts such as fl ight instruments and gas turbine engines, which aids our learning and understanding. We even have an aircraft in College.

Many of the tutors have industry experience, from being in the RAF to fl ying their own aircraft, which means that lessons are taught to industry standard rather than just out of a book. Combined with the facilities available, the tutors are able to share their knowledge, experience and practical skills, which defi nitely helps us when we’re applying for jobs and Apprenticeships.

There’s no doubt that my time at College has been worthwhile and I have really enjoyed it. My next steps are going to the University of Leeds to study aeronautical & aerospace engineering.

We have excellent links with industry, working with high technology companies such as Vauxhall, Lockheed Martin and Millbrook Proving Ground, so you will always be up to date with industry changes and developments – something that employers will be looking for.

Advanced Level students recently linked with Cranfi eld-based Hybrid Air Vehicles and Airlander to take part in a mini project. They were set tasks and judged by some of the team from Hybrid Air Vehicles. The winners got to visit Airlander in Cardington and the student of the year was presented by a representative from Mercedes AMG. They won a week’s work experience in the summer and a guaranteed interview for Mercedes’ Apprenticeship scheme.

Our students also attended The Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham for a week in November at an exhibition of Aerospace Engineering. They even got to meet Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis who visited the stand!

Engineering at Intermediate LevelWhat will I learn? At Intermediate Level (Level 2) you will study general Engineering to give you a good level of knowledge and understanding of the basic engineering techniques used within the sector. Areas you will study include: engineering materials; electronic circuit construction; working practices in engineering; using and interpreting engineering information; and engineering mathematics.


Mechanical Engineering What will I learn? Mechanical engineering is all about how things are made. In the words of one of our students: “when you know the theory behind what you’re doing everyday it makes you more effi cient”. You will study mathematics for technicians, mechanical principles and applications, electrical and electronic principles, and properties and applications of engineering materials. One of the people I work with had already completed a fl oristry course at Shuttleworth and she highly recommended it. Although I live in Hertfordshire, it hasn’t been a problem getting there as I catch the College bus which stops in Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock.

We have a ‘Floristry Shop’ at the College, which is a big, walk-in, cold room which helps to keep the fl owers alive for longer. The local wholesaler delivers weekly, fi rst thing on a Monday morning, and we can make suggestions about colour themes and the types of fl owers we would like on a Friday, when our tutor places the order.

I’m so pleased that I decided to do the course and I’m defi nitely a better fl orist now. I’ve been offered more work from the shop so I’m now working four days a week. Eventually I’d like to do an Advanced Level course and I’d defi nitely consider doing it at Shuttleworth.

case studyI wanted to do something that I really enjoyed and I love riding and working with horses – I’ve

been doing it since I was eight years old.

The course covered everything from preparing you for working in a yard, to all the fun stuff like riding, the presentation of horses, dressage and jumping. We’ve learned about the day-to-day care of the horses and general animal health – not just for horses, but for small animals too. We’ve also covered biology, including anatomy and fi tness and I’ve completed my British Horse Society (BHS) qualifi cations, which are important for getting a job with horses.

We had two hours a week of riding and I was given the opportunity to ride the horses outside of timetabled sessions as I didn’t have access to my own horse like some other people. We were also able to use College horses to compete and our class organised a big inter-college event at Shuttleworth.

Guest speakers visit the centre to give lectures and demonstrations, which complement the shows and events held by the College. These regular onsite dressage and show jumping shows enable our students to gain experience in all aspects of organising equestrian events.

We recently hosted one of six regional fi nals of Futurechef 2015, which involved exhibitors including Babcock International and Baxterstorey who were on hand to give careers advice to our students for prospective jobs and further training within the industry. SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSWe are very privileged that our Shuttleworth College Campus is situated in a large conservation area containing grassland,woodland, wetland, a working farm, lakes and fi sheries centre.

Our students spend lots of time out and about, speaking to people and seeing how things work in industry, as well as winning awards! In 2015, our Horticulture students won a silver medal for their garden design at the Ideal Home Show in London. They also had a visit from TV gardener David Domoney to give them advice about their design before the show. Horticulture students have also visited Stevenage Town Football Club to gain a more practical view of the work done by the groundsmen there.

Our Agriculture students work closely with the local farmers and start early in the year with a crop walk with local agronomists to plan for the coming season. They also recently took a trip to the sugar beet factory in Bury St Edmunds to see what happens after the crop leaves the fi eld.

There are residential trips to look forward to: our Countryside students have enjoyed a week in the New Forest and Fisheries students spent a few days netting at the Lac de Villedon in France.

All of our tutors have worked in garages in their careers and every one of our students agrees that they have up-to-date subject knowledge. This means we will teach you techniques that are likely to become compulsory in the future, such as working on electric cars.

Our students also benefi t from professional links with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) as well as major employers in the area to keep abreast of industry changes: just one example is Vauxhall Motors, who have donated a number of ex-trial vehicles to us to help students test their diagnostic skills on the very latest technology.

Some of our students move on to Apprenticeships after their course; some with Vauxhall where they have had great experiences, from being a member of a pit crew on the annual VXR Power Event, to servicing and preparing an ambulance for a 10,000 mile charity drive to Mongolia.

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSOur Shuttleworth College Campus has beautiful, spacious surroundings where you will develop your outdoor education skills, as well as at other venues including Grafham Water Centre and Big Rock in Milton Keynes. You will be involved in a rotation of practical activities on a weekly basis, which will include kayaking, canoeing, orienteering, climbing, archery and sailing, and study a wide range of units associated with coaching, leadership and skills development.

You will have the opportunity to undertake a group expedition, be required to attend residential trips to locations such as the Brecon Beacons and the Isle of Wight, and complete an extended work placement in an outdoor centre or related organisation. There will also be various day trips, practical days away and the opportunity to take additional qualifi cations in sailing, power boating, kayaking, canoeing, climbing and fi rst aid.

At Advanced Level there are two distinct pathways of study to choose from. The extended diploma is for those who are considering studying for a degree at university and includes core units such as anatomy & physiology and training & fi tness. The specialist diploma focuses more on practical skills and will help you work towards the coaching and instructor qualifi cations required to work in the industry.

Some of our Outdoor Adventure students compete for the South East region for the GB elite slalom canoe squad (training at the 2012 Olympic venue, Lee Valley White Water Centre). One is aiming for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has found that the College location and timetable has enabled him to keep up his training while studying for a professional qualifi cation. Another student, who lived on Campus in our halls of residence at Shuttleworth, is a downhill mountain biker who has competed at international level and is hoping to take part in the World Cup events in Scotland, Austria and Italy in 2015.

forces or the emergency services, I decided that this specialist course at Bedford College would give me far more insight and practical experience to achieve my goal. In fact, everything that we have done on the course has been directly related to my future career, which is fantastic. Even my tutor is ex-military so he’s got direct experience, which is one of the best things about the course.

Recent visits included wild camping in Snowdonia National Park and work experience with the British Army, participating in fi eldcraft and military exercises.

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSOur Sport students have access to a wide range of excellent facilities. Springs is our multi-million pound Sports Centre, home to the College’s highly-esteemed Sport Academy. It features a full sized sports hall, dance studio and fi tness studio with cardiovascular equipment and weights. We also have access to fi tness laboratories for sport science testing and to Kempston Football Club for outdoor sports.

Our Sport Academy provides fantastic opportunities to develop your skills in football, rugby, female football and basketball, compete on behalf of the College and even lead to a career as a professional sports person. One of our past students represented Great Britain in the under 23’s 100m while another signed a deal with London Wasps Rugby Club, so we have a good track record. Work experience will include sports development work with children in local schools, fi tness testing, coaching and personal training with local community groups.

All of our students enjoy a number of trips including a fi ve day multi-activity trip to Barcelona as well as local trips to sporting establishments such as Bounce, The National Football Museum and many more. case studyMy journey at Bedford College started fi ve years ago when I studied an Entry Level English

Language course. I’ve now progressed through three levels of Travel & Tourism and I’d like to go even further and study at higher education level.

I chose Travel & Tourism because I had always wanted to work as a member of cabin crew. In fact, I’ve already completed my cabin crew certifi cate, which was part of my course last year.

The College also arranged some work experience for me at the Park Inn by Radisson Bedford Hotel. I was there for two weeks and worked on reception, behind the bar and in the restaurant. They offered me a job at the end of the two weeks, but I’ve decided to focus on my higher education studies instead.

DOMINIKASTUDYING TRAVEL & TOURISM ADVANCED LEVEL

SUBJECT AREA HIGHLIGHTSOur Travel & Tourism students have a strong track record of fi nding fantastic employment after their course. Some have become cabin crew for Thomson, Monarch, easyJet and Ryanair; as a holiday rep for Thomas Cook, Thomson and Kuoni; ground staff for Virgin Atlantic; check-in staff for Menzies Aviation; and customer service staff for Signature Aviation.

To maintain this momentum, a former student who has enjoyed success with Kuoni in the Maldives, and is now fl ying all over the world with Thomson Airways, recently visited our current students to tell her stories.

We have excellent links with local employers who regularly come in as guest speakers and assessors. For example, Thomas Cook attended one of our recruitment and selection events, where they interviewed students wanting to become children’s representatives at their overseas resorts.

Our students also enjoy a number of trips, which have included a three day visit to Amsterdam and Bruges with city tours, a residential trip to Edinburgh, a river cruise and a traditional Dutch pancake dinner, as well as day trips to London, St Albans and Woburn Safari Park.

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?An Apprenticeship is a programme of work-based learning, which means that, to be enrolled as an apprentice, you will need to be employed under a contract of employment, by an employer who will pay you a wage and support your training. Your job role must include a range of work relevant to the Apprenticeship qualifi cations you wish to undertake.

As an apprentice, you’ll get all the benefi ts of studying with Bedford College for a formal qualifi cation, while working in your chosen industry. We are the largest Apprenticeship provider in the county, which means we offer a wide range of Apprenticeships for you to choose from.

IntroducingApprenticeships

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?Apprenticeships take between 12-42 months to complete depending on the type and level undertaken.

HOW WILL I SPEND MY TIME?For most Apprenticeship programmes, you will need to attend College one day per week, or on block release of two weeks each half term. College attendance varies from programme to programme and is also based on individual training needs.

If you are aged between 16 and 18 years old your Apprenticeship will be fully funded by the government. For those aged 19 and over at the start of their programme, there is partial funding from the government, which is supplemented by a contribution made by the apprentice’s employer.

As an apprentice, you will be paid the 'apprentice National Minimum Wage' – which is currently £3.303 per hour – as a minimum.As apprentices become more experienced and develop their skills, some employers do tend to increase wages; the National Apprenticeship Service found that apprentices earn an average of £200 net pay per week (after tax and National Insurance deductions).4

The National Apprenticeship wage applies to all 16 to 18 year olds and to those aged 19 and over in the fi rst year of their Apprenticeship. If, when you reach 19, you have already completed your fi rst year, you will be paid the National Minimum Wage for those aged 18 to 20, which is

STEP 7Feedback and getting started

The Apprenticeships team will explain the process for starting your Apprenticeship atyour interview and also explain how your test results will be used to support youonce you begin your Apprenticeship.

STEP 6Attend an interview

We will give you an appointment for an initial assessment, which will involve some testing and an interview. This is so that we can ensure that your application is progressed to enable you to enrol on the correct type and level of Apprenticeship course.

STEP 5Check course entry requirements

Once you have chosen your preferred programme, it is important to check the entry requirements to see which level you should start at. The entry requirements vary depending on the type and level of Apprenticeship applied for. STEP 4Already have an employer?

We will ask for details of the business where you will be working as an apprentice. Your employer will need to contact our Business Development Team on 01234 291747 so that we can make arrangements to visit the company to explain the scheme and what your employer should do to support you.

STEP 3Find an employer

Before you can begin an Apprenticeship programme, you must be employed. Check the Bedford College website regularly for details of Apprenticeship vacancies and contact potential employers to ask about Apprenticeship opportunities within their organisations.
