Raising Funds:Why do donors give?

• Express gratitude

• Have an impact on the care patients receive

• Make a difference in the lives of others

Spending FundsHonoring donor intent

• All restricted funds are established with a designated purpose:– Capital expenditures or expenses

– Budgeted or unbudgeted

– General support or specific expense

• Funds MUST be used in accordance with the purpose for which they were established.

ACF’s Responsibilities• Accept charitable donations, provide tax

receipts and thank donors.

• Ensure that gift was used according to the donor’s intent.

• Share gift impact stories with our donors.

• Provide reports to Fund Administrators (donations received, funds used, cash balances)

Role of the Fund AdministratorFund administrator = Advocate Associate

assigned responsibility for a restricted fund

• Monitors the restricted fund balances and transfers (avoiding negative cash balances)

• Approves transfers from the restricted fund that are consistent with the donor’s intent.
