WHAT IS FUE? Fundación Universidad-Empresa (FUE) is a private non-profit institution with over 40 years’ experience pursuing the common interests of universities and business.

ORIGINSCreated in 1973 by the Official Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid, FUE is the first Spanish institution to have addressed the challenges and opportunities generated in the framework of university-business relations. The universities of Madrid have supported this pioneering project from the start.

FUE’s Board of Trustees represents 500.000 companies, 17 universities and 460.000 undergraduate and graduate students.

OBJECTIVESFUE seeks to develop solid paths for communication, cooperation and knowledge sharing between universities and businesses. It consequently acts as an information and coordination centre for those universities and businesses that wish to establish agreements for the promotion of graduate employment and career development, higher education, entrepreneurship and RD&I, amongst others.

ACTIVITIESFUE’s activities have a special focus on:

� Employment & Employability: undergraduate internships, combined internship+training programmes for graduates, academic and career orientation,job market information and counselling, RD&I job portal.

� Entrepreneurship: workshops and seminars, interuniversity competition, start-up counselling and mentoring.

� Innovation: research contract and project management of joint university-business initiatives.

� Education: postgraduate programmes, specialised training and seminars focused on different areas of business and professional development.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMMES

This Programme improvesstudent perception of the jobmarket and the business world, as it offers a first opportunity to share views and knowledge within a professional framework.

Since 1985, FUE and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), along with Círculo de Empresarios, have promoted two cooperative education programmes. These programmes seek to improve the employability of specific profiles in highly competitive companies. Students enter a fully operational organisation, commit to a collective task and join a productive team.

� Students applying must be enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s degree programme

� Applications accepted year-round � Duration: approx. 900 hours/academic year � Part-time � Cost:

� Monthly grant: minimum 400 € for 4 hours/day

� Monthly administration fees: FUE (10%) and university (variable)

� Social Security coverage

3rd and 4th year Economics and Business Administration students

ONLINE PROGRAMME FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN THE EHEA FRAMEWORK

� University students. The specific profile (graduate, undergraduate, final projects) depends on the model chosen by the university

� Applications accepted year-round

� Duration: depending on the University curriculum

� Cost: 100% funded by the university, at no cost to the company

e-Start Programme allows students to carry out real pre-consultancy project proposals created by companies, business associations and other public and private institutions, through a 2.0 platform that strengthens multilateral communication between all parties involved (academic mentor, company mentor, student and Fundación Universidad-Empresa).

OPTIMUS EXECUTIVE PROGRAMME

Citius is a joint initiative of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Fundación Universidad-Empresa. More than 8.600 graduates have already benefited from the programme with excellent results.

Optimus Executive is a joint initiative of Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (UFV) and Fundación Universidad-Empresa designed to facilitate the entry of recent graduates into the labour market through an in-class training course on professional skills and transversal competences. The schedule is compatible with the internship at the company.

Our programmes for recent graduates are implemented through two main areas: an in-company internship programme and an academic training at the university.

GAIA PROGRAM 4.0

GAIA is a programme designed by business and new technology experts aimed at shaping recent graduates into “tomorrow’s professionals”.

INTERNSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATES AND GRADUATES OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING

STEP PROGRAMME

STEP is a personal development and collective intelligence programme aimed at higher vocational training graduates.

STEP seeks to develop strategies for personal branding and an intensive use of new technologies, through an online teaching mechanism that increases engagement thanks to gammification methodologies.

� Mentored internships (between 6 and 12 months)

DUAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Dual Education is an alternative to the vocational training courses offered by the Deparment of Education, Youth and Sports of the Madrid Region. Dual education has two main objectives:

� To offer students sufficient ground to succeed in the labour market

� To ensure companies’ access to competitive and qualified workers

Dual Education promotes integral education. Participants are trained simultaneously at educational centres and companies.

Companies take on an active role developing training contents and organising learning processes.

Companies select and grant the students.

The Guía de las Empresas que Ofrecen Empleo was first published in 1990. It collects relevant job search information not only for young qualified professionals, but also for employers and career counsellors.

It provides young professionals access to companies offering job opportunities, internships or even volunteer work.

Over 200 enterprises, in Spain and in different European countries, have been listed in the latest editions.

EHEA SEMINARS

The convergence of Spanish Universities into the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), completed in 2010, was an important challenge for students, university staff and higher education administrators.

For private stakeholders interested in more intensive university-business collaboration in areas like talent attraction and retention, ongoing education, intrapreneurship and internationalisation, convergence into EHEA demanded adaptation to a new framework. For this reason, Fundación Universidad-Empresa offers on-demand tailored workshops to bring HR managers and other relevant corporate officers in line with the state of the art in advanced education.

HR CONSULTANCY

Fundación Universidad-Empresa designs tailored recruitment processes that meet the needs of the most demanding employers. We work with first-tier corporations to ensure that they can find the most talented young graduates with the perfect skills profile.

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

Over 2.600 joint research contracts between university departments, companies and public institutions have been managed since 1973, with a total value of more than 90 million € and a special focus on the chemistry/pharmaceutical, medical/healthcare and ICT sectors.

Since 1997 FUE is a registered OTRI (Office for Research Transfer) of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

As such it offers information and assessment services regarding: � Resources available in research centres � RD & I contract and project management � Development of technology-based businesses � Preparation and management of national and European RD&I

projects � Identification of technological needs and training requirements in

the field of business innovation � HR recruitment for RD&I

FUE is also an active member of madrid+d, the science and research network promoted by the Regional Government of Madrid.

INFORMATION AND ASSESSMENT SERVICES HUMAN RESOURCES FOR RD & I FUE provides a job portal specialised in scientific and technical profiles: graduates, PhDs, engineers, researchers, technology experts, laboratory technicians, etc.

The website (www.madrimasd.org/empleo), which is managed in the framework of FUE’s cooperation with madri+d, has over 24.000 active users and receives over 6 million visits every year.

Innovation


Joinlab is a practical entrepreneurship workshop for gifted 11-year-old students from the Region of Madrid. The programme is based on the Lean Canvas model, which focuses on the idea of giving students total freedom in the process of creating an innovative solution to a societal challenge.

The programme is developed throughout the academic year and culminates with a final session in which every group presents a 3-minute pitch explaining its project to a broad audience.

Duration: seven 90-minute sessions.

Number of participants: about 200 per academic year.

Scope: Programme for Talented and Gifted Students in the Region of Madrid.

Partners: Fundación CEIM and Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Regional Government of Madrid.

Fundación Universidad-Empresa and Fundación Junior Achievement offer university students from around the country the chance to participate in the annual interuniversity competition for entrepreneurs: Startup Programme.

STARTUP PROGRAMME

The competition, which is part of the European Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise Programme, seeks to promote entrepreneurial awareness and to improve entrepreneurial education in higher education institutions through the elaboration of competitive business plans.

Excelence award

Movers by FUE is a special initiative launched by Fundación Universidad-Empresa to award the excellence, motivation, enthusiasm and outstanding attitude of those recent graduates from our internship programmes (Gaia, Citius, Optimus and Step) who have obtained exceptional academic results and proven their commitment during their training period at their host companies.

The 20 students selected for the first edition went to the University of Central Florida, Orlando, where they received an exclusive academic training programme taught by top experts. They also visited the NASA (Kennedy Space Center) and Universal Studios.

In the second edition, the 20 students travelled to London, where they had the opportunity of taking the “Masterclass for Young Leaders in Business” by the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
