PIANO—VIOLIN Concerto

Lim Pei Sien is known for her aptitude to collaborate well with other

musicians. She was invited to serve as a staff accompanist in the summer programs of American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.

Additionally, she has given numerous recitals / repertoire for one piano four hands, two pianos four hands, and piano trios in Malaysia, Thailand and the USA. Next month, she will be playing in a one piano four hands recital in Kuala Lumpur.

As a soloist, Pei Sien has won many prizes, including the Pittsburgh Concert Society’s 2002 Major Audition, the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Piano Competition in the State of West Virginia, and two times winner in the West Virginia University Young Artist Competitions. Her latest solo performance was in the KL Piano Gala 2013.

As a clinician, Pei Sien has given a number of workshops and seminars to both piano teachers and the general audience. She has also given piano masterclasses at various universities in the region and the USA. She has served as a guest examiner and adjudicated competitions, the most recent one was the 2013 Malaysia Preliminary Contest for the 13th Hong Kong (Asia Pacific) Schubert Piano Competition.

Pei Sien was a senior lecturer at UCSI University from 2005 – 2013. She taught advanced subjects such as piano pedagogy, piano literature, Baroque counterpoint and Classical compositional writing. Her teaching is based on problem-based learning to foster better learning outcomes. A number of her university students have successfully moved on to complete their master’s and doctoral degrees in music. Pei Sien received her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from West Virginia University under the guidance of Dr. James E. Miltenberger. She was granted scholarships and graduate assistantships throughout her studies at WVU. She was also a recipient of the Higher Education Resource Fund Top-Off Fellowship and was awarded the Outstanding Music Student Award by WVU Music Alumni Association. Pei Sien currently resides in Kuala Belait and gives private piano lessons.

Albert Wang Born in Michigan, Albert Wang made his solo debut with

the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra at age 15, performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major. Currently residing in Chicago, Wang holds degrees from Indiana University, University of Michigan and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the American Conservatory of Music.

The winner of numerous competitions including International Concerts Atlantique, Society of American Musicians, and the International French Music competitions, Wang is also a recipient of a Fulbright lecturing grant, the Leo Sowerby Medal and a Helmuth Fuchs career grant. He has performed and presented master classes in Canada, China, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Thailand and throughout the United States. He recently performed Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at the 2012 Jakarta International Music Festival and presented master classes at the Jakarta School of Music. His performances have been recorded and broadcast on National Public Radio, Public Broadcasting Service and WFMT Chicago Fine Arts Station.

As the Music Director of the Baroque Masterplayers since 1994, Wang has performed virtually every major baroque violin concerto with the ensemble. He also champions new music, having performed concertos by Lou Harrison and Frank Martin, and has numerous world premieres to his credit. He made his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 1998 and has recorded on New World Records and with the Slavic Projection Ensemble. Future projects include performances of the complete Bach violin concertos with the Baroque Masterplayers as well as recitals in the Midwest and at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wang serves frequently on the juries of music competitions and has published articles and reviews for numerous journals and magazines. His biography is listed in Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World. Formerly on the faculties of Roosevelt University and Wheaton College, Wang has been a member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra since 1982. A PADI certied Divemaster and Rescue Diver, Dr. Wang is a volunteer diver for the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. He is also a certied Emergency First Response Instructor and volunteers for the American Red Cross and the United Way.
