BUGrip®

DYNAMIC STUDS BUGrip® – is the name of Icebug’s traction technology for the most slippery conditions. A BUGrip® sole is made of a special rub-ber compound and has 14 – 19 integrated steel studs. Tips are made of carbide steel which makes them extremely durable.

The design of the studs, together with the properties of the rub-ber compound, give these studs a dynamic function. The studs work independently from each other and are not completely fixed.

When weight is applied the studs push in toward the surface of the sole. How far they are pushed in depends on the pressure exerted by the user and the resistance from the ground.

This dynamic function makes the studs adapt to the surface and provide the best possible traction on anything from dry asphalt to pure ice.

OLXFIXED STUDS The Fixed Studs do not adjust to the surface like the Dynamic

Studs in the BUGrip® system, instead they are always exposed and grip whatever surface that comes in their way. With Fixed Studs it’s possible to make the sole relatively thin which saves weight and improves the ground control.

The Fixed Studs system is exclusively used in shoes for very demanding terrain, where reliable traction is of utmost impor-tance. The studs are made of steel and has carbide steel tips, which makes them almost impossible to wear down. The shoes with Fixed Studs have “OLX” added to the models’ name.

BUGweb® is a traction technology that consists of a compatible outsole and a traction unit. The BUGweb® has six carbide studs and it fits into the special sole pattern of the BUGweb® sole.

The advantages compared to a conventional grip device are sub-stantial as the BUGweb® becomes an integrated part of the sole. The shoe can be used with or without the BUGweb® attached to it which multiplies its field of usage.

RB9X®

RUBBER 9 EXTREME Rubber 9 Extreme (RB9X®) is a groundbreaking rubber compound development. It sets a whole new standard in providing traction on, specially, wet surfaces.

Lab tests (SATRA) show that RB9X® outgrips the competition on both dry and wet surfaces but still matches the durability

(DIN53516 < 120) of an asphalt running shoe. In real action that means up-graded and long-lasting traction reliability in wet and slippery conditions.

RB9® is a rubber compound specially developed to perform all year around. What makes it unique are the properties in low tem-peratures.

Normal rubber gets harder as the temperature drops, which decrease both its traction performance and comfort. RB9® on the other hand is less affected by dropping temperatures and doesn’t

start to get stiff until below -15°C (5°F). The result is a rubber that outperforms normal rubbers on cool and cold days. The durability is still on a top level (DIN53516 < 120). RB9® is the perfect unstud-ded traction technology for four-season footwear.

MICHELIN WICWINTER RUBBER TRACTION For shifting autumn and winter conditions, ranging from wet city

pavements to frosty gravel roads, providing proper unstudded traction can be a challenge. Especially since rubber tends to harden and get stiff as temperature drops. In a collaboration with MICHELIN Technical Soles, Icebug now offers a winter adapted rubber outsole. Developed with the ICE Control Technology, solu-tion formulated to provide superior ground control in snow or ice.This technology allows you to relax and enjoy being outside, no matter how slippery it is. There is no better unstudded winter traction.

The tread pattern of the outsole is based on the legendary MICHELIN X-Ice Xi3 winter tire, with Cross Z Sipes that provide traction on ice and wide grooves for excellent water evacuation and flexibility. The MICHELIN Winter Compound (Wic) is an anti-slip compound that offers both reliable traction and good abrasion resistance in tempe ratures down to ” -30°C (-22°F).

NewRun is the first real road running shoe from Icebug. High comfort has been in focus when developing this shoe and then a waterproof GORE-TEX® upper crowned with The Boa® Fit System were obvious features to add. Low temperatures don’t go well with a narrow fit so the last has a roomy toe box and a straight toe line allowing the foot to flexand spread out naturally. The midsole is well cushioned and with its wide base both

stability and long distance comfort are achieved. The 7 mm drop hits the sweet spot and feels right throughout the stride. OutRun is a trailrunning shoe with focus on long distance comfort. The users range from recreational runners looking for support and stability, to the more experienced ones when collecting base miles.

The light polyester upper, in combination with the lacing system and soft heel cup, offers a nearly custom fit. This snug fit is especially appreciated on long descents and the toebox is generously sized as feet might swell after a while. Mudguard around the entire shoe protects when the trail gets more technical.

The BUGforce midsole provides high rebound and ample cushioning, a combination that translates to a soft ground impact but yet an energetic take off. Torsional rigidity supports on uneven surfaces and the forefoot Rock Shield protects in rocky terrain. Capra is a trailrunning shoe made for athletes venturing into endurance competitions in technical terrain or just look for long distance training comfort. Just like a mountain goat, Capra is agile and at home on rocky ascents or descents.

Materials have been carefully chosen with sustainability in mind in order to minimize climate impact. The durable upper is light, smooth and has a snug fit, still with a roomy toe box. The padding in collar and tongue is made of foam with closed cells which mean minimal water absorption in wet conditions. Protective mudguard around the foot is a relief when running in harsh terrain. The upper and the removable insock both has a soft lining that gently embraces the foot.

The Dual density midsole has a 7 mm drop and really hides some performance enhancing features, for instance a 360° rim providing torsional rigidity. As it is made of BUGforce EVA the midsole has excellent cushioning and rebound properties, which translates to a soft impact and energy return in the take off phase. A new generation of the Acceleritas is here, targeting those that fancy minimalism and a must-have for the thrill-seeking runner venturing into swimrun, obstacle race or forest running! The upper is super soft and smooth, so light it feels like being barefoot. The water pickup is minimal, the drainage is excellent and hence the wet weight is almost as low as when it’s dry. The heel cup is very soft and comfortable in order to reduce pres-sure at the Achilles tendon.

The midsole is very flexible and the terrain feel is remarkable thanks to the low profile of the sole. The shoe promotes the natural movement of the foot, it’s like running in a

Zeal is the footwear benchmark for demanding terrain, providing unrivalled combina-tion of low weight, ground control, support and traction. The upper material is durable yet smooth, and together with the lacing system it embraces the foot firmly. The pad-ding in collar and tongue is made of foam with closed cells which mean minimal water absorption in wet conditions.

The toe box has a protective mudguard. Thanks to the midsole construction Zeal pro-vides torsional stability but is still flexible with a soft and smooth running feeling. This combination is possible thanks to the moulded midsole cradle. This U-shaped midsole

cradle not only adds superb fit and running properties, it also turns into a reinforcement protecting the foot in harsh terrain.

The height of the soft and comfortable heel cup is slightly reduced at centre back in order to relieve the Achilles tendon from pressure. The last has a medium width with a straight big toe line. The torsion and cushioning is in perfect balance, and in combination with the low sole profile the ground control is just outstanding. As if the deep lugs of the outsole wouldn’t provide traction enough the OLX version has 16 fixed carbide tip steel studs that will provide traction everywhere.

Fourteen OLX steel studs / Light and low wet weight / Durable, protective without compromising comfort.

Spirit has been around for many years by now and still is the preferred shoe for many orienteers and off trail athletes, regardless if they are world champions or amateurs. Being the off trail benchmark doesn’t mean you get to rest though, at least not if you want to stay ahead.

The key to success lies in the combination between low weight, smoothness and traction, but without compromising durability. The upper material is a bluesign® high abrasion recycled PET Polyester with a protective TPU mudguard, very smooth and with a thin and direct feeling. The low cut collar and the very comfy heel cup relieve the Achilles tendon from pressure.

The closed-cell foam of the heel cup and the upper Polyester fabric absorb very little water (maximum 20 % increase when wet). The low sole profile and drop optimize ground control, but yet it’s flexible to allow the foot to move naturally.

The last has been updated with a slightly roomier toe box. The outsole provides out-standing grip, with innovative diagonal ridge pattern, that is enhanced to amazing with 14 integrated OLX carbide tip studs.

At 295 grams (US9) the Oribi BUGrip® weights in as one of the lightest winter running shoes to date. The bluesign® Polyester upper is smooth and durable and water repel-lent. Lacing system with integrated laminated ribbons embraces the foot and keeps it in place, along with special laces that keep them from untying. The thin tongue has a sock-like construction, both keeping it in place and making the Oribi fit like a glove. The soft heel cup has a padded collar and firm heel grip, and in combination with the medium last the over-all comfort is very high.

The midsole has an integrated Rock Shield to protect the foot in rocky terrain. The mid-sole also adds torsional stability and is designed to provide a kick in the last phase of the stride. Medium cushioning and a 7 mm drop provide just the right level of support and cruise control. It protects, for instance, sensitive floors from being damaged by the protruding studs. It is not intended to be used for long distances. A major injury risk during winter is that the Achilles tendon gets wet, cold and stiff. Sealing the edge of the shoe, and adding warmth to this area, helps preventing this problem.
