March 2015 Vol. 3 Issue 7 T eaching the linked Biology lecture, lab, and Cornerstone classes was a great experience. I was really able to get to know my students and help them with study skills specific to being successful in my Biology lecture and lab. All of the Cornerstone outcomes were customized to help my students succeed in Biology and in their future career related coursework. I really enjoy getting to know more about my students, their hopes, their fears, their strengths and weaknesses, and to guide them in ways that will facilitate their academic success and improve the quality of their life. I really wanted to help my true first-year students gain the skills they need to succeed in challenging college courses. Many of them arrive under prepared for college and end up dropping their courses during their first year . It gave me a renewed perspective on the ma ny challenges faced by many of my students and motivated me to find new ways to help them be successful. I am lucky to have such wonderful students, and I come to work each day to help them reach their goals. Teaching the linked Biology lecture, lab, and Cornerstone classes was a great experience. Many of them arrive under prepared for college and end up dropping their courses during their first year. It gave me a renewed perspective on the many challenges faced by many of my students and motivated me to find new ways to help them be successful. I am lucky to have such wonderful students, and I come to work each day to help them reach their goals.

Why did you choose to teach SLS 1515? I was part of the team that started SLS 1515 as an aspect of our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for our regional accreditation. I am affectionately known as the godfather of the Cornerstone Experience, so it was about time that I walked the talk and taught the course. I had also taught other college success courses at FSW in the past, so I felt comfortable in many ways teaching SLS 1515.
