A Message from our Pastor, Fr. Tom… Our parish feast day, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, (also known as Corpus Christi) is celebrated this year on Sunday, June 23. Blessed Sacrament Father, John Thomas Lane, Pastor of St. Paschal Baylon Parish in Highland Heights OH and I will

“switch” parishes the weekend of June 22 - 23 to celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ. I will be celebrating at St. Paschal, Fr. J.T. will be presiding at the weekend Masses in Houston.

Some of you will know Fr. Lane as he served the parish as a Deacon in 1991 – 1992 and returned as Pastor in 1999 – 2003. Please give Father JT a warm Houston welcome.

In the Gospels there are plenty of times when Jesus is with peo-ple eating and drinking. As always, Jesus is concerned with people and their real needs. They are hungry, so he feeds them. He is gracious in his abundant giving. But he feeds them not only with food; he feeds them at a deeper level. He teaches, he welcomes, and he heals. When we gather to celebrate the Eu-charist, Jesus welcomes us, he speaks to us. He offers the gift of his Body and Blood for our nourishment and healing.

On our feast day we are called to remember that we are the Body of Christ, the Church, Corpus Christi. St. Paul reminds us, “Now Christ’s body is yourselves, and each of you with a part to play in the whole.’ (1 Cor. 12.27). This day reminds us and challenges us to be aware that we are the living Church, the Body of Christ, whose head is Jesus himself.
