G2 Chain Guide Installation Instructions

! IMPORTANT CONSUMER SAFETY INFORMATION!

WARNING: RIDING A BIKE IS DANGEROUS. NOT PROPERLY MAINTAINING OR INSPECTING YOUR BIKE AND IT'S COMPONENTS IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. IT IS ALSO DANGEROUS TO NOT READ AND FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

1. DO NOT PERFORM ANY MODIFICATIONS OR ADJUSTMENTS THAT ARE NOT OUTLINED IN THIS MANUAL.

2. INSPECT YOUR CHAIN GUIDE BEFORE EVERY RIDE. INSPECT AREAS FOR ANY SIGNS OF FATIGUE, BENDING, CRACKING OR OTHER DAMAGE. IF YOU NOTICE ANY TYPE OF DAMAGE, DO NOT RIDE IT. RETURN IT TO YOUR DEALER OR TO MRP FOR A COMPLETE INSPECTION AND NECESSARY REPAIR.

3. MRP RECOMMENDS THAT YOU WEAR PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT EVERY TIME YOU RIDE, INCLUDING APPROVED BICYCLE HELMET. NEVER RIDE AT NIGHT WITHOUT LIGHTS. 4. ALWAYS USE GENUINE MRP PARTS. USE OF AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT PARTS AND UPGRADES VOIDS THE WARRANTY AND COULD CAUSE STRUCTURAL FAILURE.

MRP highly recommends that you have your new G2 guide installed by a professional mechanic at your favorite local bike shop! If you have ANY doubts about how to install your G2 , take it to a bike shop. You'll be glad you did.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!The G2 chain guide by MRP was designed to be one of easiest guides to install and adjust. Follow these simple steps for proper G2 setup.

The following tools may be needed:Appropriate bottom bracket cup removal tool (if using an ISCG adaptor)Appropriate crank removal tools2.5mm allen key3mm allen key4mm allen key5mm allen keychain ring nut tool

!IMPORTANT! If possible, use the longer of the supplied ISCG mounting bolts. You want maximum thread engagement into the tabs, without bottoming out the bolts.

Step 1) Remove your crank set from the bike. If you have a bash ring installed, you'll need to remove it. Keep the chain ring in the middle chain ring position on the crank. You can use either single-ring chain ring bolts, or double-ring bolts with supplied chain ring spacers installed in the big chain ring position.

Step 2) If mounting the G2 directly to the frame with ISCG or ISCG-05 tabs, set the lower skid surface as close to horizontal as you can, with the suspension fully extended (figure 1), and skip to the next step now. If you do not have ISCG or ISCG-05 tabs built into your bike, MRP strongly recommends using the bb-mount specific boomerang. It will give you the best alignment. In emergency situations, you can use our ISCG adaptor (available separately, part# MR-21-2-042) with the ISCG version of the G2 boomerang. Remove your drive side bottom bracket cup, clean the surface of your bottom bracket shell with alcohol, and install the guide and any bb spacers needed. Below is a chart that tells you what order to put the boomerang and spacers in order to achieve the correct chainline. (This is only a starting point, each individual frame/crank combo may vary.)

Apply grease to the surface of the bottom bracket cup that will contact the boomerang or adaptor. Ensure that no grease gets between the boomerang and the spacers/shell of the frame. Now re-install the bottom bracket cup, leaving it hand tight. Place the bike on a level surface and rotate the guide so that the flat, bottom edge of the Skid is level. Now tighten the BB cup to recommended torque.

Step 3) Adjust the spacing. Leave the small 2.5mm bolt in the tip of the upper guide alone. Remove the upper and lower guide assemblies from the G2. Leave the Skid attached to the boomerang. Re-install your crank set. Hold the upper guide in place (do not secure it with the bolt yet). Looking down from the top, the chain ring should be centered in the top guide (figure 2). Spacers may be added between the boomerang and ISCG tabs/adaptor to achieve the desired position (figure 3). !IMPORTANT! Do not add spacers between the guide assemblies and the boomerang/skid! This can cause the guide to malfunction! Once the guide is spaced correctly, put the chain onto the chain ring. Now open the upper guide like a pair of scissors, capture the chain and secure the guide to the boomerang with the bolt (figure 4).

Step 4) Install the lower guide assembly. Slide the bolt through the lower guide plate. Slide the pulley wheel onto the bolt, and then the washer onto the bolt. Next, insert the peg into the lower slot on the skid, and the bolt into the upper slot and anchor it with the nylock nut on the back of the boomerang (figure 5). Leave it loose and at the outermost limit of adjustment. Now pull the chain up over the guide assembly, allowing it to fall onto the pulley wheel. Slide the guide assembly along its adjustment track until the edge of the guide completely covers the chain where it engages the chain ring. Tighten the bolt (figure 6).

Step 5) Check the alignment of the chain in the G2. The chain should not drag on the guide surfaces. It may contact the guide surfaces very lightly when in the largest cog or smallest cog, this is ok. Check all the bolts in the cranks/BB and chain guide and make sure they are all secure.

Congratulations, you have now installed the most advanced chain guide available today. Pretty easy huh! Now go have fun!
