Water Management - Conclusions• G2 site provides significant space for multiple benefits

including: river access, stormwater management, habitatrestoration, active and passive recreation, public health,

• All onsite stormwater is managed.

• Infiltration of stormwater is not recommended due to historicalgroundwater contamination.

• Significant offsite dry weather runoff is also managed.

• Managing significant amounts of offsite wet weatherstormwater is expensive and reduces use of G2 site for otheruses.

Concept Pre-design Considerations

The Taylor Yard G2 River Park Project is set apart from other open space projects in scale and complexity. Many layers have been

analyzed, from urban constraints and habitat, to natural systems like hydrology, to providing a base for inserting circulation and

programs. After the City and the consulting design team went through a process to determine project goals, and establishing the

guidelines and direction of the project, a set of site design constraints and opportunities were developed.

The following diagrams depict three initial approaches to several pre-design investigations based on the site’s constraints and

opportunities, and the location of major community-driven programming features. The constraints are fundamental to the

design as they often guide circulation and the location of programs. Site constraints include soil health and remediation, utilities

and associated right of ways, the potential for high speed rail, the new Taylor Yard Pedestrian Bridge laydown area, access to the

site, potential development, stormwater feature location, river hydrology and ARBOR setbacks, and site phasing.

While we are still waiting for soil results and are in negotiations with rail and LADWP regarding the high-voltage powerlines

currently located onsite, we have begun the preliminary siting of: 1) circulation including connecting to the neighborhoods and

providing access to the river, 2) stormwater features, 3) how and where to set back the river, and 4) community-driven programs

such as the location of an amphitheater, a river museum, and restoration areas, among others.

While we have begun to forge an understanding of the proposed spatial arrangement, park program and activities, constraints,

opportunities and overall site aesthetic, it is important to understand that these diagrams are considered pre-design approaches.

Spatial disposition could change based on input from stakeholders including associated agencies.
