Successful Mock Interviews at Gable Hall
On 18th and 19th October, Gable Hall held
two incredibly successful Mock Interview
days for all Year 11 students. Both were a
great success and we received an
enormous amount of positive feedback
from the volunteer interviewers:
“I was really impressed by the attitude of
the students and how much preparation
was put into the CVs. It is clear how much the students here value a career and the
importance of an education/career plan. Thank you for the opportunity and I would love to
do it again next year even if some of the questions the students asked me were challenging
and tough!!”
“I enjoyed being part of the event and seeing the passion of your young students.”
“It has been a very well organised day. The children who have helped today have been
polite, friendly and a credit to your school.”
“Students at this school are impressive!! The profile packs and standard of interview are
exceptional!”
All interviewees deserve praise and
recognition for their efforts and we at Gable
Hall are very proud of their conduct,
professionalism and how smartly they
presented themselves!
Thurrock Lions awarded prizes on the second
day and we are very pleased to be able to
announce the order in which they placed our
top students:
1st Place: Chloe Turner, 2nd Place: Hayley Instance, 3rd Place Chidinma-Chiara Ekwegh and
Joint 4th Places: Henry Saunders, Ben Sargeant, Jasmin Edmead.
Our Mock Interview days also gave us the opportunity to welcome back ex-students of Gable Hall, who have gone on to have very successful careers, including:
Jon Fuller (left), who left Gable Hall in the 1970’s, who now runs his own First Aid training company, supporting and completing a lot of positive work with young carers locally, including offering them free training. Jack Tremain (right), who left us in 2006, is now enjoying and thriving in his job locally at DP World.
Congratulations to the Year 8 Netball Team on
winning their first match of the season against
Harris Academy with a score of 28-0! All of the
team played exceptionally well and player of the
match was awarded to Poppy Proctor!

The Year 9 Netball Team also played away to
Harris on Monday 16th October. After losing their
last 2 games, there was a dramatic turnaround in
their gameplay seeing them triumph with a 23-0
victory!

Tumi Ajayi, Gracie Nicholls, Isobel Cross,
Hannah Argent, Amelia Grundy, Ellie Jayne Page,
Amy Vamplew and Carly Wright.

Sports News Lego Club Build Lego Engine
A number of pupils from Gable Hall’s Lego Club were lucky enough to be invited by Cummins, the world’s largest independent engine manufacturer, to take part in building an engine made out of Lego.
Pupils were greeted warmly by Cummins Engineers and guided by Technical Advisors to construct engine parts out of Lego, such as manifold supports, valves and engine supports.
Under the instruction of the Cummins staff, pupils then placed their engine parts onto the Lego engine and were given a brief description of how each part works within the Engine. The Lego Engine, shipped over from America, was made by 28 young engineers and took over 187 hours to design and build, using 29,734 Lego bricks and weighing 58kg! The Lego Engine will now head off on a tour the United Kingdom before going to Europe. This is what some of our Year 9 Students said about their day: Amber Howard - “It was great fun. We built a Lego Engine and learnt many different things about Engineering”. Leon Fenwick - “It was really good and it was a chance to prove to yourself what you’re good at”. Lilly Anderson - “It gives you an idea of how clever Engineers are at their job, what they do and how hard they work”
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS Congratulations to... Abbie Hibbert - Year 7 Abbie played Portly in Wind in the Willows for The Australian Shakespeare Theatre Company in Kew Gardens and Wakehurst Gardens over the summer, with a total of 16 performances. Abbie will also be appearing as a senior dancer in the Beauty and the Beast Panto at the Thameside Theatre Grays from November 2017 - January 2018. Well done Abbie!

who raised money for Heart's
'Global's Make Some Noise'
campaign, which supports
smaller, local charities who
often get overlooked. The challenge was to raise £30 in
30 days. We raised £34.77!!
On Wednesday 11th October ten girls from Year 8 and 9
went on a trip to London to learn about equality
and feminism. Ella Merrison and Anna Vincent
reported on the day:
We started the day by going on the London Eye where we
all had the opportunity to speak to female mentors; these
are women who are very successful in their chosen
careers. They spoke to us about life decisions and how
best to achieve our goals. We then watched a
presentation given by young inspirational girls, who were
just like us. They spoke about the ways they have helped
disadvantaged people and how they have faced and
overcome barriers to higher education and projects to
inspire young women to pursue STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering Maths) subjects.
We then took part in two workshops, first we made a
small magazine (a zine) based around famous girls and
women who have achieved exceptional things. We
used newspapers to find words to cut out to make a
collage and after this we made a collage to represent
ourselves to show what we like to do and how we see our
own characteristics.
The next activity was all about self-confidence. A teacher
from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts worked with
us on how to use our voices and bodies to help us feel
more confident when we are nervous talking or
presenting to others.
At the end of the day we were treated to two female DJ’s and we celebrated by dancing until it was time to come home. We all really enjoyed the day and would love to
have the opportunity to spread the word about feminism and equality and encourage girls to try things that are not
traditionally done by women.

Women of the World Trip
Last year Gable Hall School held a
workshop to encourage our young
writers to create a short story for
the Welcome to Wonderland
book. We are very proud to
announce that the book has been
published and we have had 17
writers successfully published.

sQuid introducing the new mobile app, which enables parents to pay for
trips via mobile devices in addition to lunch top-ups.
Details on how to download the app were provided in the email. If you

Create Complex Passwords. We know you’ve heard it before, but creating strong, unique passwords for all your critical accounts really is the best way to keep your personal and financial information safe. A strong password consists of at least six characters that are a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Passwords are typically case sensitive.
E-Safety Tip
Please note that there is staff training after school on Wednesday 22nd November so please expect that all after school

School Bags Please can we ask that students have a school bag that is big enough for them to put their books in neatly without having to fold them.

Please be considerate and do not park in front

Student Sickness/Illness Procedure
We advise students who feel ill during the school
day to inform medical bay in the first instance
prior to calling their parents. We ask parents to
support us by liaising with the school before
coming to collect their children.
Please ensure that if your child suffers from asthma they carry
their inhaler with them at all times.
