Year 7 Stubbers...
On Friday 29th September all Year 7 students attended the Stubbers Activity centre for an exciting day of team building activities...
Students were stretched outside their comfort zones and faced new and challenging tasks, including: climbing walls, raft building, dark tunnels and code cracking. Students enjoyed every moment, with laughter throughout, especially watching Mr McCabe struggle to get over the curve on the climbing wall. Luckily our students, with a little hep from Mr. Greatrex, managed to rescue him, after he abandoned the activity, and roped him back to safety.
This year 14 pupils from Gable Hall School, spanning from Year 8 to 13 will continue the tradition of participating in the ‘Shakespeare Schools Festival’ and will undertake the task of producing the Bard’s comedy ‘As You Like It’.
On Thursday 5th October, the cast teamed up with pupils from The Endeavour School to participate in a workshop led by the Shakespeare Schools Team at the Thameside Theatre. Lasting just over 2 hours, the pupils explored the top tips to performing Shakespeare, as well as sharing and developing a scene from the play with The Endeavour school. Staff at the workshop praised our pupils for their energy, willingness to share and great team work with the other school.
Mr Gillett and the cast would like to invite you all to the final performance that takes place on Thursday 23rd November 2017 at the Thameside Theatre; tickets are available from the theatre’s website.

Mrs. Peterson charity zip line...
Congratulations to Mrs. Peterson, who on Saturday 30th September joined a team of 14 people at London’s Lambeth Palace Park for a Zipworld London Event. Mrs. Peterson took part to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, in memory of her son Paul, and said, ‘we climbed a tower which was higher than 9 double decker buses, the highest and longest in Europe, and travelled down the zip line at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. I have raised over £420 for this event taking the total we have raised for MD UK since Paul passed away to just over an amazing £26,500!!’.
We recently had our
Lifeboat charity box
emptied and they we very
pleased with the £48.51 raised!
Considering it was made up of odd 1 and
2 pence coins that have been found
scattered around the school , we feel it is
quite an achievement!
We would like to bid a fond farewell to Pat Collins, who retired from Gable Hall School on Friday 6th October, after being with us for an astounding 33 years.
We wish Pat a multitude of happiness in her retirement and thank her for her service to Gable Hall School.

National Poetry Day...
Seniz Jessener – Year 13
Seniz parents wrote to us to celebrate Seniz’s achievement in completing the 12 mile Tough Mudder in Horsham.
She raised £1200 for Dementia, a charity very close to her heart, as her Nan suffers from the dreadful syndrome and its symptoms
This was a real challenge for Seniz and her parents are very proud of her, as are we at Gable Hall.
We would like to say a big thank you to everybody who took part in National Poetry Day. We had some lovely poems about
freedom submitted from many of our students, but our overall winner was Travis Cox in Year 9. His fantastic submission is below:
Freedom Strive to be your own Freedom No need to constantly defend your home Freedom Bathe in the liberating rays of the sun Freedom Your right to be subject to none Freedom Frolic in the fields Freedom Put down your swords and shields Freedom No pain, no suffering nor toxic vial Freedom One that can send you the extra mile.
Travis Cox - Year 9
Masterpiece of the Week….
Awarded to two students named below, for their Homework project on Fashion Illustration, for which they had to design a
t-shirt to reflect their personality.
Eva Fogg – Year 10 Eva recently performed in the chorus of a West End Show called ‘Hamilton’ at the Theatre Café in Leicester Square.
Fantastic achievement – Well done!
Hannah Aldridge – Ex-Gable Hall Student We would like to congratulate one of our former students - Hannah Aldridge - for receiving First Class Honours in Performing Arts and Drama at the University of Kent at Canterbury.
Well Done Hannah!

Year 8
Emily Hubbard and Wasima Uddin - Year 9
Emily and Wasima received praise and recognition from a local
parent for their honesty and integrity, after a Year 7 student lost
his phone on the way to school and was incredibly upset.
Luckily our Year 9 girls found it, called his father and waited at
the school in the rain to return it and we are proud to share part
of the letter he sent to us:
“Their honesty and
truthfulness are a
credit to the School,
their families and
themselves.”

information!
E-Safety Tip
IT Tip of the week:
Google Searching
Did you know?
1. When you are looking for something on Google, but you don’t want it to search a specific site (e.g. Ebay) put a minus sign after your search word, followed by the site you don’t want it to search. E.g. Dr Who DVD but not Ebay results would be Dr Who DVD-ebay.
2. Google fills in the blanks in your sentence if you use a * eg. Elizabeth Taylor married* will list all Elizabeth Taylor’s husbands’ names / If you type *discovered penicillin, it will return the answer with Alexander Fleming.
Please can we remind parents that if your child is unwell, they should report to the school medical room, who will contact home if needed.
They should not be calling home and asking someone to collect them without reporting to medical first.
We would like to send a polite reminder on the school rules with regards to hairstyles.
Hairstyles must be moderate, conventional and no shorter than a “Number 3”. Hair ties, bows or slides should be black or white. Hair can only be dyed in natural colours (i.e. no bright reds, blues etc.). Hair must be only one colour no two tone hair styles are allowed… Thank you for your cooperation!
