The Principal award for Week 8 is was awarded to Miannette. Miannette was recognised as a student who shows an ongoing commitment to her learning, in and out of the classroom. She is a student who at all times is respectful to her peers and staff at school. Miannette is always happy to help out and at all times shows responsibility. Miannette’s love of the environment is infectious and I have enjoyed spending time getting to know her a little more while we have been gardening this term.

School Swimming Carnival 2020

There have been parent concerns around the depth of the pool we currently use for our school swimming carnival each year. The WHS team are currently reviewing this and are looking at alternative options for the 2020 swimming carnival to ensure the safety of all of our students. When a decision is made on where the swimming carnival will be held, we will notify the community.

School Uniform

In line with our PBL Behaviour Matrix and School Values the school will be raising the standards of our school appearance by focusing on school uniforms. Students are expected to dress with pride at all times. As of Term 2 we will only allow school hats within our playground. Students wearing anything other than a Garden Suburb Public School hat will be asked to take off their hats and play under the COLA.

As the weather starts to cool down we are also seeing students arrive at school in a variety of different coloured jumpers and jackets. Please ensure students are wearing the correct school jumper to school.

School hats can be purchased from the office for $13. The Uniform Shop is open every Thursday morning from 8.45am until 9.30am.

School Photo Day

School photos will be taken on Thursday 6th June 2019. Photo envelopes will be sent home early next term.

PLP Afternoon Tea

We are inviting all of our Aboriginal students and their families to attend an afternoon tea with all staff on Wednesday 10th April at 3.30pm. During this time teachers will be available to discuss student’s PLP goals for this year. Students may have more than one teacher they would like to discuss their goals with. Students have been sent home an invitation today, if you could RSVP by Tuesday 9th April for catering purposes we would appreciate it.

Sports News Hunter PSSA Soccer by Baptiste

On Thursday I went to Nelson bay to represent Garden Suburb and Crossroads PSSA in the regional soccer tryouts. Mr Mathews was our coach. I had friends there so the chemistry was there. We played four teams and the games were 15 minutes long. We wore a red and white striped shirt, white pants and blue socks. There were 8 teams in total and there were 2 groups. Our team was in the first group. We won most of our games but it was how I played, I didn’t know if I played good or bad. I didn’t know and my dad didn’t know. When it was our last game, I had to give it my all. I got put in left back and our team scored two goals. I tried to go in a tackle and I hurt my ankle bad. I was limping until the end of the game but it got better as the day went on. The first round went for four hours and the second round was on a different day. Everyone gathered around to see if they'd made it to the second round, unfortunately I didn’t make it but the main reason was to have fun.

Cardiff High School – Premiers Sporting Challenge by Olivia and Emily Our Friday Trip Last Friday, the Year 6 students went down to Cardiff High School for the Premier's Sporting Challenge. When we arrived, we were greeted by a teacher and then were split into groups with students from other schools. There were five activities planned out for us throughout the day. Our first activity was golf. We lined up and had a turn at pitching the ball to a partner, then soon moving to our next group. The next group was soccer. We were split into two teams then started a kicking drill before going head to head with the other team. After soccer we had a ten minute recess before moving on again. Our third group was touch football. We had a lot of fun passing the ball to each other and then played against each other in two teams. We then moved onto a mindfulness and fitness activity. We split into partners and one person wore a blindfold while the other directed them around the obstacle course. We then played tug of war, before having lunch. Our last group was gymnastics. We jumped on trampolines and cartwheeled into a forward roll. We had so much fun at the high school that we cannot wait to go back there next term. By Olivia and Emily Library News

The Premiers Reading Challenge is in full swing at GSPS.

K-2 classrooms have PRC titles in book boxes that teachers have started to share with

their class.

Students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 have already completed reading books from the PRC list

and have entered those titles on the website. If your child has not begun reading the

selected titles at this stage please encourage them to do so – reading is such an important

lifelong skill.
