GardensHello,
Thank you for showing an interest in LittleGreen Man and taking the time to look throughour brochure.
For over 22 years now, it’s been my pleasure towork alongside my family and staff at thenursery and Kids’ Club, and watch so manysmall babies grow into little people and beyond.
When I started the nursery back in 1996 withmy husband Barry, we really wanted to create afun, caring and safe environment for children, sothat their parents could leave them with us, safein the knowledge that we were helping them tolearn and play, and become fantastic, well-rounded people. Our simple ethos really andtruly is the fundamental heart of our nursery:We Care!
We ensure high-standards and expect a lot from our staff, which shows in the great resultswe have with the children in our charge, whilst keeping and emphasis on maintainingstrong relationships with all the parents and carers. We are an independent nursery of agood size, which means we can keep control of our programme and facilities, whilst stillhaving the capacity to be flexible.
Our open-door Partnership with Parents/Carers means that we’re always here to help, towork with you or to talk if you need anything. Just give us a call if you have any queriesand we will be happy to help.
We hope to see you soon,

Little Green Man is here to supply first class
facilities for children aged one month to five years
in a happy, secure, imaginative and stimulating
environment.
We provide a broad, balanced and relevant
education, in order to develop learning and social
skills; building confidence, independence and self-
esteem.
We support parents and carers in providing the
best possible start in preparation for Big School
and their future life experiences.
Little Green Man was started by Proprietors Jan
and Barry Bloomfield and has since become a true
family business with both their sons working
alongside them.
It first opened its doors over 21 years ago in May
1996, starting at 15 Lemna Road in
Leytonstone, before extending into the building
next door on Gainsborough Road, allowing them
to welcome a capacity of 130 children into the
now eight rooms.
Since its beginning Little Green Man has helped
in the development of over 3,000 infants,
toddlers and pre-school children, with a simple
ethos: We Care!
Nursery Structure
Aims & Objectives
4
• To ensure that each child’s specific and personaldevelopmental needs are met. All children have
the right to education and their families have the
right to chose where their child receives that care
and education.
• To positively value and respect everyone
regardless of race, religion, disability, gender or
sexual orientation.
•To ensure all staff members at the nursery match
or exceed National Standards 1 of the OFSTED
requirements.
•To follow the DfES curriculum the Early YearsFoundation Stage as required by National
Standard 3 of the OFSTED requirements, to
ensure a stimulating environment, where play
and learning go hand in hand.
Being one of the biggest nurseries in the area, we
are able to provide an extra level for accessibility
and flexibility. Any changes in days and times will
be met within four weeks if not sooner.
At the same time however, our structure of eight
rooms for three age-groups allows us to create a
cosy and intimate atmosphere for the children
with a base room, where the children feel like
they belong, rather than one big open space. It
also allows us to keep very strict staff/child ratios:
- Infants (under 2 years): 1:3
- Toddlers (aged 2-3 years): 1:4
- Pre-School (above 3 years): 1:8

She is supported by Deputy Manager Tracy

accredited colleges and training organisations.
We also have on-site cooks, caretakers and

smoothly.
All staff are DBS checked without exception.

Nursery Programme

We have adopted the OFSTED and Every Child
Matters framework: Early Years FoundationStage (EYFS)., which guides our planning and
programming.
The planning is primarily through adult-led, child-
initiated play. We provide a wide-range of
resources and great facilities (see facilities section
for more details), which are made readily
available to the children. Every week, each room
will have a theme, around which activities are
focused. Activities both indoors and outdoors
include the use of arts and crafts, role-play,
cookery, stories, music, jigsaws, collage and
constructions as well as messy, creative, water
and dramatic play.
There are also specialised art, role-play and
sensory rooms, as well as two large garden areas
with both small and large outdoor equipment;
including a fantastic and very popular play
structure.
We regularly take the children on trips to the
park, local shops, farms and the library, with
occasional trips to places of interest and an
annual panto. Oh yes we do!
Staff facilitate the children’s activities and recordwhat each one does every day, using their
observations to plan the next steps in their
learning and development. That’s how we harnesstheir natural curiosity and build on the seven
areas of learning:

We support our parents and carers in teaching
the children to respect all people and things;
including their peers, elders, personal belonging,
toys and books.
We believe it to be extremely important to teach
social skills; for example self-reliance, getting on
with others, sharing, caring, co-operation within a
group, table manners, and basic health and
hygiene.
These values are taught through play, songs and a
general attitude and understanding from all staff.
We have been given “ GOOD” by OFSTED. Someof the comments made are below:
“Staff have a good knowledge and understanding oftheir roles in teaching and supporting children's
learning, which they facilitate well. As a result,
children are making good progress in their learning
and development and are becoming capable and
confident learners.
“Children are happy, content and well cared for by acaring staff team, who show a genuine interest in
helping children make progress. The children benefit
from and enjoy a stimulating learning environment.
“Arrangements for safeguarding and childprotection are firmly understood by staff because
these form part of the induction process and
ongoing training.”
LanguagesTo help with the children’s cultural and linguisticdevelopment, we provide weekly French lessons
for our Pre-School children with a native speaking
teacher.
Although English is the language we use at Little
Green Man, we have many children for whom it
is not their first language. Some children, when
they arrive at the nursery speak little to no
English.
To help their transition we ask parents to supply
us with some basic words, which we can use to
communicate with the children. We also have
staff members who speak a multitude of other
languages; from German, Romanian and Polish,
to Bengali and Russian. They will use English to
communicate, but where necessary are able to
use some words to help.

Deputy Manager, Tracy Donegan is our on-site
trained SENCo expert, She is the nursery lead on
SEND planning, referrals and working on one-to-
one targets for the children supported by Toddlers
Group Manager and Deputy SENCo. Hannah.
They work with children with Special Educational
Needs, supporting both nursery staff and Group
Managers to ensure that special provision is
accounted for, whilst also supporting parents and
carers, if they need any help at home.
Tracy also liaises with representatives from the
Local Authority and other external organisations
for example Speech and Language Therapists,
Educational Psychologists and Health Visitors, to
ensure that we have a full 360 care for all
children at the nursery.
The Premises
10
Little Green Man is located in two beautiful,
large, Victorian buildings in Leytonstone.
The premises cover over 5,000 square feet, which
includes nine bright, airy, spacious group rooms.
There are other rooms for specific activities such
as sensory, sand, role-play, art and water play
(continue reading for more information).
We also employ two permanent caretakers, who
are on site to ensure that the building is always to
standard.
There are two entrances for convenience and a
buggy park, where parents and carers can leave
their strollers and pushchairs.
Multi-Sensory RoomAt Little Green Man we are one of the few
nurseries in the country to have our very own
Multi-Sensory Room.
The Multi-Sensory Room charges all five senses
for children to enjoy experiencing sound, smell,
light, touch and taste.
The room is accessible to children of all ages
and groups and includes a sensory board with
textures, buttons and lights, alongside mirrors,
scent bottles, lava lamps and bubble machines
so that children can begin to better understand
the world around them.
GardensOn-Site Kitchen
11
Our on-site kitchen means that we are able to provide all
of the children with tasty, hot, fresh, nutritiously
balanced meals throughout the day. We cater for
breakfast, snack, lunch and tea, all prepared by our two
professional and experienced cooks. Babies under 8
months are given fresh mouled food.
Menus are organised on a weekly rotation to give keep
the food interesting for the children and full of variety.
All dietary requirements are taken into account, from
vegetarian to Halal or dairy free (all meat is Halal).

explore their imagination, including the Art
Room and the Role-Playing Room
The Art Room is stocked to the brim with
paint, glitter, corn flour, sand, water, home-
made playdough (made on site), sponges,
brushes, bubbles and more. This room is
dedicated to promoting the children’screativity.
Our specially made Role-Play room holds
outfits and toys to spark any child’simagination. We have costumes for them to
learn more about occupations (nurses,
shopkeepers, doctors, firemen) as well as those
so they can live like a wizard, princess or
superhero.

Outdoor Areas
12
We have four outdoor areas at Little Green Man;
including our front garden for free play and three
back garden areas: one with an all-weather,
matting floor for imaginative play, the second
with large educational activity panels and soft
play and the third with our very own adventure
play structure.
These areas are used to help increase the physical
development of the children, maximise their
opportunity to imagine and allow them to
investigate the environment and world that we
live in. They can be seen every day enjoying our
outdoor areas: climbing the adventure play
structure, enjoying our large and small outdoor
equipment or hunting for mini-beasts.
Each Group Room at Little Green Man is
equipped with a tablet, which is used to record
observations and take pictures for our records and
parents to see how the children are doing.
Observations and reports are put onto our Early
Years software programme called Tapestry. Since
2017 parents have been able to have a sign-in
and see the progress of their children.
We also have a bank of computers, which are
used for the children to play educational games,
to support their learning, as well as help them
with typing by finding letters on the keyboard
and enhancing their fine-motor skills with mouse
control exercises.
