Thank You

"Thank you so much for allowing the Dvorak family to use the Glab lounge this past Sunday. The space was ab-solutely perfect for our party and I know my grandma had a good time."

It seems we only just got used to writing “2016” on our checks and letters, yet here we are with another year before us. Indeed, our lives are made up of this passing flow of days and nights,

seasons and years, endings and new beginnings. We are part of a universe of suns and moons and planets, and in all the cycles of the running seasons we sometimes forget that which endures forever:

the constancy of God’s love, and his desire to share that love with all people. It is this love that showed itself in the crying Child of Bethlehem, who went on to assure all peoples: “I have come that they may have life, and have life to the fullest” (Jn 10:10). Our prayer is that in 2017 we will find new horizons of grace in Christ, and that a world yearning for peace will know in increasing measure that “peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Phil 4:7). Happy New Year!

Service ExcellenceStar Award WinnerMary Burkart, RNNomination: “I would like to thank Mary for her outstanding work to ensure that Felician Village was well represented in the Manitowoc and Two Rivers holiday parades. Mary did lots of behind the scenes work-filling out the parade entry forms, attending parade meetings, coming up with a design - in addition to finding employees to walk in the parade, help decorate the float and/or vehicle used in the parade and shopping for decorations to use on the float/vehicle. Thanks for the many hours you devoted to this yearly project. You helped employees feel part of the team while showing the community all the good Felician Village does for our residents.”

Congrats! Thanks for all you do!

Advocates from across Wisconsin will converge on our state capitol in Madison and meet with state legislators. As the number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia increases, it is more important than ever that we effectively communicate our message about the Alzheimer’s epidemic. If you are interested in attending, please contact Connie Thimmig, Director of Enrichment Services, at 684-7171 ext. 351 by February 24. We will try to arrange carpools and work with the Alzheimer’s Association to try to arrange appointments with district representatives.

2017; the Plan for Continued SuccessI support John Lasseter in his quote, ‘Quality is the Best Business Plan’. No matter what position we hold at Felician Village, quality is a part of our job. When we come to work each day, ‘we do what we do’ the best that we can do it, right? That’s quality. However, quality does not stop there. There are several reasons that force us to change how we do things; they include but are not limited to resident/family expectations, interpretation of industry regulations being modified, and a need for more effective and

efficient operations.Measures of quality outcomes in the industry of long term care are rapidly gaining value and attention. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) change from a fee-for-service reimbursement protocol to a pay-for-performance strategy has initiated these changes. Facilities with 5-star ratings and key measurable quality outcomes

will be more visible and recognized moving forward. We need to maintain our high level of quality care and quality of life for our residents to be seen as a leader in our industry.QAPI (Quality Assurance Performance Improvement) is the means in which we develop, plan and monitor our quality measures and outcomes. The better we apply the principles of quality management including QAPI, the more efficient and effective we become and the valuable we become to those in need of our services.

Please join us in welcoming Cindy Hronek as the new owner of our salon, Pre-mier Hair Studio at Felician Village. Cindy started in the hair business about two and a half years ago when she bought Premier Hair Studio and volunteered at Empire Business School. She will continue to manage her original salon located at 2010 Western Ave, Manitowoc, and is excited about this new opportunity.“I am thrilled to partner with Felician Village to continue to bring residents a salon experience that helps them look

good and feel good about themselves,” commented Cindy. She and her team of stylists have resumed salon hours of Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. but are happy to accommodate appoint-ments outside of these hours as well. The salon is open to our residents, employees, family and the community. Cindy is no stranger to our campus. She worked as a nursing assistant at St. Mary’s in the early ‘80’s and is looking forward to being part of Felician Village once again. To make an appointment at the salon please call, 920-684-7171 ext. 311.

“Let us support each other with prayer; there letus seek strength and guidance.” -Blessed Angela

Advent Prayer Partner ProgramThe recent Advent Prayer Partner program paired 31 residents and 31 staff and volunteers from the Felician Village to pray and meditate together from November 28 to December 24, 2016.Partners prayed and visited once a week to honor their families, friends, and a wide variety of concerns related to local, national, and world issues.A special comment from one of the partners read: “Every visit with my Prayer Partner was meaningful and special to me. Her eyes lit up each time she talked about visiting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Sharing a prayer or Bible verse was some-thing we did at each visit. I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to develop a very close bond with my partner during this Advent season.”The program ended with a social on Friday, January 6 for all participants. During this festive event, partners sang Christmas carols, enjoyed baked goods and coffee, and listened to a talk on answered prayers.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone is enjoying a great start to 2017 and had a blessed holiday season. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2017! Later this month our Board of Directors and Strategic Team will go through our annual strategic planning session. As we develop and refine our strategic plan for the 2017-18 budget year which starts July 1, 2017, our mission and values guide us through this process. In addition to reviewing what we have accomplished over the past year, we also take a long-term look at what may be needed in the community and how Felician Village can help meet those needs.

Our Dementia Center of Excellence has continued to grow over the past year and as dementia continues to increase, Felician Village remains committed to examine ways to increase services to those affected by this disease and those who care for them. Watch in 2017 for expanded dementia educational offerings for staff, residents, professional caregivers and the general public.

In 2017, we will continue to work closely with our area health networks to find more ways to keep people out of the hospital and as healthy as possible. Chronic disease management and a choice of exercise options are only two of the many possibilities to help seniors improve and maintain their health.

Thank you for choosing Felician Village as your home. I look forward to seeing each of you throughout 2017 as our staff remains committed to caring for those on the Felician Village campus with the Felician Sisters values of respect for human dignity, compassion, transformation, solidarity with the poor, and justice and peace.
