● Continued changes to weather patterns around the UK are leading to increased values of local precipitation. Weather events becoming greater and more frequent.

● The proliferation of synthetic sports facilities, due to aspiration and central funding has meant that many surfaces are now being built in less than ideal places.

• An infill sand with the bottom end of its specification deliberately removed to boost infill drainage

Moving Forward – Suds and Recycling▪ Aggregate Industries, as an organisation is committed to recycling

materials for use back into industry, Testing has already begun with recycled materials being added to concrete. Recycling well established in asphalt products with up to 50% in base macadams

▪ Recycled materials to be potentially included as an addition to base formations, reducing needs for traditional materials and for possible use as a performance infill. Testing of appropriate materials now being initiated

▪ Recycled materials can also be used in areas such as kerbing and land reinforcement for cut and fill. Such applications already happening in civil engineering projects

▪ Lytag, a fully recycled furnace ash used as a drainage solution for natural sports facilities



Moving Forward – Suds, and Sub base Materials

• Pro Pitch Sub base 1(Best) - SuperFlow SuDSAgg, for contractors with SuDS water management considerations, this modified Type 3 includes the hard to reach 30% voids requirement as stipulated in the CIRIA manual

• Pro Pitch Sub base 2 (Better) - Standard Type 3, for customers who what the peace of mind with a tried and tested material

• Pro Pitch Sub base 3 (Good) - Type 3 alternative for the more economically focused customer, this will most likely resemble a coarse Type 1, which will offer free drainage, however it will be up to the customer to factor in it's suitability and the long term integrity of the pitch.
