I hope you will enjoy this for a lifetime. This Chalk Holder holds a standard 3/8” (.3750 decimal inches, or 9.6 mm) chalk pieces. To extend or change the chalk, twist the knurled end to loosen the retainer. The back end does not have a cap as it is designed to allow for longer chalk pieces that teachers typically have. Sometimes some chalk sticks may be slightly smaller than the typical 3/8 inch. In that case I have found that wrapping a piece of note paper (slightly less heavy than copy/printer paper) around the end of the stick will make it hold well.
