Chili Volunteer Ambulance Service The Chili Ambulance has been serving the Town of Chili for just over 60 years. Recently, in 2006, the Ambulance Service split from the fire department forming the Chili Volunteer Ambulance Service (CVAS). The split from the fire department was a business decision and necessary for several reasons. Changes being made to the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement systems left many of our senior citizens and those on fixed incomes with extremely high advanced life support bills. Although remaining a volunteer service, the new organization was able to start billing insurance companies for emergency medical services directly. By doing this, it greatly reduced the out of pocket costs for seniors, as well as, lower the ambulance tax rate by nearly 30%.

The Chili Volunteer Ambulance base is located at 3320 Chili Avenue in the old Ray Sands Glass building across from Suburban Propane. They currently have 48 members answering over 2,000 calls each year in a district that covers approximately 42 square miles. Because our volunteers have other jobs, the Chili Volunteer Ambulance (through contract) employees several career staff personnel to fill shifts as needed. CVAS shares an excellent relationship with the Gates Volunteer Ambulance who provides CVAS along with their own Paramedic services 24/7 along with back up basic life support when called upon.

As CVAS continues to move forward, their goal has been and continues to be to provide quality emergency medical services to residents and those spending a portion of their day in the Town of Chili. The volunteers and career staff work very hard every day to deliver a dedicated and compassionate service to those who need it. Working together, we all hope to make a difference.

For more information and non-emergencies, please call 585-889-8614.

Chili Public library For over 50 years the Chili Public Library has provided a welcoming place for its residents to engage in lifelong learning, pleasure reading, and programs for all ages. On October 15, 1962, the library began as an 18 x 50 foot room in what was then the Town Hall. In 1966, a 6,300 square foot library addition was added to the Town Hall and served as the towns library for more than 30 years. In June 1997, the residents approved a bond resolution to construct a new one-story Library and Town Hall facility on 24 acres of land donated by Wegmans, and in 1998, the 16,600 square foot library building opened its doors to the public. With almost three times the space of the former library, the new facility includes a separate childrens room, story time room, multipurpose room and space for computers, materials, patrons and staff. The Town and Library Boards, staff, volunteers and Friends of the Chili Public Library have worked diligently to provide first rate materials, programs and services to those in the community.

The Friends of the Library provide many goods and services, including the purchase of Book Trucks, Computer Software, Digital Camera, Encyclopedia, Globes, HP Digital Projector, Musical Instruments for Childrens Services, New Baby Books, Projection Screen and Cart, Rug for the New Book Area and Story Time Books. They also support All Age Level Summer Reading Programs, Concerts, Five Monthly Book Discussion Groups, Monthly Aquarium Maintenance and the Books to People Program.

The library welcomes people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the many offerings and participate in the numerous programs. The library works hard to meet any special circumstances and make accommodations for an enjoyable experience.

Gates is a dynamic town with an interesting past and a bright future. The town was incorporated in 1813 and was the last remnants of Northampton founded 1797 in Ontario County. The community has been at the center of history for this area and the roots of Rochester can be directly traced to our town. Rochesterville was a village in Gates until Nathaniel T. Rochester presented the application of incorporation to the Legislature which was approved 1817 and by 1822 the name was legally changed to Rochester.

Gates is the geographic center of Monroe County and has easy access to expressways in all parts of town. Population has grown since our sesquicentennial from 15,133 residents to over 28,000 residents today. There are two outstanding school districts including Gates-Chili for most of the town and Spencerport in portions of western Gates.

Farming has ended in town since our sesquicentennial but the current mix of industrial, commercial and residential properties is the proper balance to hold taxes stable while keeping a hometown feel.

Housing in Gates is among the most affordable in the country. Residents enjoy high quality services from our many departments. From Walmart to Tinseltown and from Rochester Tech Park to Lions Park our town is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
