These tests determine your child’s instructional level and measures academic growth from Fall 2015 to Fall 2016 in areas of math, reading, and language and projects growth from Fall to Spring. Each student’s growth projection is based on the student’s grade, starting RIT score, and the subject in which that student is tested, and represents the median level of growth observed for similar students in NWEA’s norming sample. Growth projections represent the level of growth we might expect to see from the student in the middle of the distribution (the average amount of growth). In other words, on average, approximately half of all students are going to show more growth than the growth projection, and the other half are going to show less growth. It is important to remember while the projections do provide extremely useful information to teachers and schools about what constitutes reasonable growth expectations for a student to strive for over the course of the year, they don’t indicate that a student has had a successful school year simply because he or she has met or exceeded that growth projection. Each student brings with him or her, a unique set of challenges and strengths, and these should all be considered when interpreting a student’s growth in the context of his or her growth projection. Teachers use the NWEA MAP assessment data, along with other measures, to set academic goals, and meet the needs of individual students to best impact student learning. Dear Rocklin Academy Families,

Today your child’s NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test results for the Fall term will be coming home.

Tech Tidbits Digital Citizenship week is a great time to explore your student’s iPad (for those that

travel home). As a family, sit down and have your student show you the applications

they use at school. One area that every parent should look at is the Safari browsing

history. This will tell you all the websites that your student has “surfed.” To check this history open up

the Safari browser and find the icon of a book. (The icon is located at the top of the screen on the left

side.) If you touch the book, it will open and you will have the option of “history.” The history provides a

list of websites that the iPad has visited. After looking at the history it is best to delete it by going into

settings, safari, and “Clear History and Website Data.” This will erase the sites that you just saw and

allow you to see new data going forward. For more detailed instructions on checking browsing history,

please go to www.rocklinacademy.com, departments, and technology.
