All students in y10 and Y11 also have access to a website which allows then to log in and review media topics and tasks - http://media.edusites.co.uk/. Students will be provided with log in details to allow them to access this. Y11 In Jan of Y11 students will be provided with a revision booklet/booklets specific to the exam topic set for that year. For our current Y11s the set topic is Science Fiction films and all students have a booklet with tasks in, which they are expected to complete every week. Students, from January, are expected to spend at least 1 hour per week undertaking the reading and writing activities set in their booklet. In addition to this, students can use the following websites to help them with the study of the set topic. http://media.edusites.co.uk/ http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/subjects/AQA-W-TRB-48101-SCIFI-16.PDF Watching a variety of science fiction films and analyzing what they have in common in terms of plot, setting, characters, special effects, technology and music and sound effects will also be a useful exercise. Students should begin their preparation for this initially by watching some of the shows and becoming familiar with the genre. They will then need to consider a concept for a game show of their own design. This will be taught in depth in class in Y11, but these tasks will be a useful starting place. Y9 In Y9 homework will be set on a regular basis by the class teacher and involve some of the following task:

Research into the Silent Film industry and the creation of a presentational booklet

The learning of key media terms and theories such as the Uses and Gratifications theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Students can consolidate their knowledge of these via the internet.

In term two students will begin their controlled assessment preparation which is focused on the magazine industry. To prepare for this students should examine different magazine covers across different genres analyzing common features and considering how the texts target their audiences.
