Noah’s Ark

March 2017

From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Preparations are all set. Church is all ready. Ash Wednesday is March 1st. Are you ready for the journey to Mount Calvary? Are you going to go on the journey to the cross or are you going to stay cozy at home? Journeys are not easy. Majority of “journeys” can be long and tend to be difficult. Journeying with Christ can be difficult if you really don’t put your whole self into it. If your whole body, mind and soul are not into the journey, you tend to give up easily. We look at the journey and tend to think it’s too long to travel. With Lent beginning, we’re reminded that it’s not an easy jour-ney. It’s a 40 day march to the Cross. This journey might look and feel long but it's really not. It’s only one whole month, plus a week and a half of learning what it means to be a sinner and one redeemed by Christ. Can you walk with me to the cross? Do you need help? Are you able to do it by yourself? If you are not, remember that you’re not alone in this journey. God is with you! 5 And they said to him, “Inquire of God, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.” 6 And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.” Judges 18:5-6 . Throughout Scripture, there’s always reminders that we are under the eye of the LORD. To go in His Peace was very common. When we have peace with God, nothing can stop us from that journey with him. This is the same peace Jesus gave to the disciples for their long journey with God. The best thing about this journey with God is that even if we falter God will be there to pick us back up. As God’s children we must not be afraid to start our journey. This is a great journey. You will notice wonderful things when you spend time with God. Receive His peace and inquire of God as You hear what God did for you. Walking with you into Lent, Pastor Travis

A Spiritual Boost…to live a Godly life as you journey into Lent

You will not lead an obedient life with a closed Bible

(Chas Stanley)

“Only be strong and very courageous that you may observe to

do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded

you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you

may prosper wherever you go. “This Book of the Law shall not

depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night,

that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For

then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have

good success. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good

courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God

is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9

Lenten Devotion by Deaconess Elect Phyllis Yee

“No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” – Luke 13:3 Every year right before Ash Wednesday as a young child/teenager raised in a Catholic home I remember my parents always raised the subject of what my sister and I would be giving up for Lent. I usually grumbled at this notion because I wasn’t willing to give up my favorite toy, food which in my case was chocolate, or something that held special importance to me. I wasn’t able to follow through in giving up something, which made me question why Lent was so important to begin with. During those points in my life I didn’t fully understand the weight and significance of what Lent is and what it meant to us as Christians. It wasn’t until after I got married and became invested in my faith and with the help of God that I was able to grasp and understand what Lent was all about. For forty days we take a journey with Christ to the cross. That journey brings us to a place of reflection, self repentance, and focus on that cross in which Jesus gave us the ultimate sacrifice so that He could save us from our sins and bring us to eternal life. Jesus accomplishes it all for us, He carries us through our messes, lifts us up when we need it, and bends down low to meet us where we are. He is the one, the everlasting Savior who is with us on our Lenten journeys as we lament for our sins, as we prepare our hearts and minds for that cross. The season of Lent prepares us to hear about Christ bearing our burdens and taking all our sins upon Himself on the cross. When you think about all of that Lent is truly a gift because it leads us to Christ. For myself in the past few years instead of giving something up during Lent, I have challenged myself to take something on and set time out of my day to devote it to God. What will you do on your Lenten journey this year? What will give you the opportunity to focus your attention on Christ and His sacrifice during these 40 days? Whether it be through prayer, fasting, Bible reading, or worship, Lent gives you the wonderful opportunity to grow in your faith and embark on a spiritual journey to renew your focus on Jesus Christ. Prayer: Heavenly Father, during this season of Lent please help to bring me closer to You. Without You I can do nothing. During this Lenten season nourish me with Your Word and guide me to live a faithful life according to Your will. May my time of self-repentance and reflection bring me Your forgiveness and open my heart to Your love. As I journey to the cross let me be renewed and refreshed by Your Word and by the ultimate sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. In Your Name we pray. Amen!
