that there should be zero non-compliance and zero waste
whereas Zero effect focuses on SOCIETY- It states that there
should be zero air pollution, zero liquid discharges, zero solid
waste and zero wastage of natural resources. In other words, we
should manufacture the goods in such a way that they carry
zero defect and that our exported goods are never returned to
us and we should manufacture the
goods with zero effect so that they
should not have a negative impact on
environment. Thus ZED scheme focuses

this has led diminishing the value of practical training given to the students. In
order to make the engineering program more meaningful GITS from this
semester started conducting practical exams. This is a step of moving one step
forward from RTU.
Prof Dr K N Sheth appreciated the efforts of all heads and faculty members to
support such an important activity for building nation through integration of

SURYAMITRA Skill Development Program Setting up
of Center of Solar Energy
Under the Suryamitra Skill Development program sponsored
by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India
and National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), GITS established a
center of Solar Energy and was inaugurated on 30th January,
2017 by Shri Kapil Agarwal, Vice Chairman of Geetanjali Group.

students and said that energy is a key driver of global economy.
Its demand in both domestic as well as industrial sector is
steadily increasing. Solar energy as its name suggests is derived
from solar radiations. These are capable of generating usable
electrical energy. Solar cells have gone on to be used in many
applications. Solar cell technology use solar photo voltaic cells
which convert sun's energy into electricity. Dr Sheth informed
the students that the future of renewable energy and solar cell
technology is immense and employment opportunity are
tremendous. The inauguration ceremony was attended by
Heads and senior faculty members of the Institute. Shri Kapil
Agarwal lauded Er. Shakti Singh Shekhawat (Coordinator) and

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi announced the
demonetization in an unscheduled live televised address at
20:00 Indian Standard Time (IST) on 8 November, 2016. In the
announcement, Modi declared that use
of all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes of
the Mahatma Gandhi Series would be
invalid past midnight, and announced
the issuance of new Rs 500 and RS 2000
banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi New
Ser ies in exchange for the o ld
banknotes.
This sudden demonetization had serious
implications and challenges. GITS
thought it proper to organize a national
level seminar on 'Demonetization:
Impacts and Challenges' on 20th Jan,
2016 by inviting eminent speakers from
the areas of financial management.
Jagat Shah, a renowned speaker
associated with PM Office on all the
initiatives of PM and other two CA Shri
Durgesh Pandey and Dr Mahaveer
Chaplot were invited. The seminar
proved to be a great success. Almost
more than 200 delegates participated in
this seminar along with the media and
news channels who interviewed the
speakers and covered vastly.
Dr K N Sheth Director of GITS welcomed
the dignitaries and set the platform of
the seminar. In his address said that the
demonetization means stripping a
currency unit as a legal tender. The currency notes so stripped
by Government cannot be recognized by law as official
medium of payment. Dr Sheth said that the action is taken to
eliminate use of illicit and counterfeit cash used to fund illegal
activities and terrorism by our enemies. It is a fact that the
supply of notes of all denominations had increased by 40%
between 2011 and 2016 the Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes
i nc rea sed by 76 % and 109 %
re spec t i ve l y ow ing to fo rge r y.
Demonetization could eliminate black
money and promote cashless economy.
However he said that the impact could
be negative as well as positive. He then
invited speakers to enlighten the
audience on demonetization impacts
and challenges.
Jagat Shah in his speech explained in
details the impact of demonetization on
Indian economy with tables and graphs.
He also explained how the various
policies of the government since their
coming to office in 2014 had slowly been
making a road map to make India a self-
sufficient economic power.
The convener, Mr. Ar vind Singh
Pemawat, said that the seminar received
well appreciation gauging the large
attendance of faculty members and
students who also posed interesting
queries to the esteemed speakers.
Severa l s tudents ra i sed var ious
questions to the panel members to have
more in depth knowledge of functioning
of economy and menace of fake
currency in the growth of progress of the
Nation.

speakers may like to refer to the videos embedded in GITS
