GPC GIS, in association with its international and local partners, has launched a Geospatial Information, Technology and

Services (GITS) Professional Development and Certification program. The objective of the program is to develop the GITS capacity

of the region through the advancement of both the professional and personal development of its GITS practitioners. This will be

achieved through the delivery of the following services and programs:

GITS Capacity Building Consulting ServicesGPC GIS assesses an organizations GITS human capacity building

needs, identifies areas to be strengthened and recommends training

programs for GITS human capacity improvement.

GITS Professional Development Training ServicesGPC GIS delivers professional development training, covering GITS

Management, GITS Application and GITS Technology. The programs

are delivered in conjunction with our partners, via workshops,

seminars, short courses and webinars.

Geographic Information Systems ProfessionalCertification ProgramGPC GIS provides support to GITS personnel in becoming certified

within the Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP)

portfolio-based certification program. Support is delivered through

consultation on application submission, portfolio development and

GITS Professional Development training.

GITS Nationalization ProgramGPC GIS administers a GITS Nationalization Program that is designed

for fresh graduates and young professionals. This includes an Intern-

ship Program that provides on-the-job GITS training for recent local

college graduates and young professionals with some on-the-job ex-

perience. Interns are trained over a period of one to two years in both

the academic and practical aspects of GITS. The program is designed

to provide hands-on and academic training in all aspects of GITS and

mentoring in the development of specialized skills.

GeoMaturity AssessmentGPC GIS assesses an organizations GITS activities to determine

its maturity level along the path of implementing an Enterprise GITS.

The assessment Framework will be based on international best-of-

breed practices within the organizations sector.

The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA)URISA is a multidisciplinary association where professionals from all parts of the spatial data community come together to share

concerns and ideas. The organization is a leading provider of learning, knowledge and professional development for the global GITS

community. URISA is the founding member of the GISP certification program and the institute (GIS Certification Institute) responsible

for administering the certification program. GPC GIS is partnering with URISA in delivering accredited GITS educational programs to

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA)

GITA is a nonprofit educational association serving the global geospatial community through the provision of information, GITSprofessional development, and technical expertise. A key focus of GITAs is the application of GITS to the operation, maintenance,

and protection of infrastructure, which includes organizations such as utilities, telecommunication companies, and the public sector.

Of interest to the region is the fact that GITA specializes in the application of GITS to the oil and gas industry and hosts a GIS for oil

and gas pipeline conference annually. GITA is also a member of the GIS Certification Institute. GPC GIS is partnering with GITA in

hosting theme based seminars with SMEs from the oil and gas industry, hosting GITAs accredited workshops (e.g., GITS ROI), and

other GITA educational events that are relevant to GITS professional development in the region. For more information on GITA

Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute (GISCI)

GISCI is a nonprofit organization that provides the GITS community with a complete recognized certification program. GISCI offers

participants from the first early years on the job until retirement a positive environment for continuously developing their skills,

professional ethics, and personal well being and thus, greater value for GITS employers and the community in general. GPC GIS is

collaborating with GISCI in promoting, encouraging and guiding GITS personnel in the region in achieving GISP certification.

The long-term goal of the collaboration is to set up a Regional Certification Board that will issue GISP certification on behave of GISCI.

This will facilitate GITS personnel from the region applying for certification in Arabic, as well as, providing the region with a Certifica-

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)

OGC is an international industry consortium of 418 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus

process to develop publicly available interface standards. OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the

web, wireless and location-based services as well as mainstream IT. The standards empower technology developers to make complex

spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications. GPC GIS is partnering with OGC to promote the

usage of standards in the region, represent OGC in the region, and organize OGCs events in the region. For more information on
