The Garden Club gets straight down to business at the beginning of each year. On 25 February we have our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday 25 February. At this time we invite members to nominate for the Garden Club Committee. As you know the Committee manages the administration of the Club and all the activities on offer. We welcome new committee members and the energy and ideas they bring. I hope you will consider nominating for the Committee. The nomination form is printed in this newsletter and is available on our website (www.ulladullagardenclub.org.au). Nominations are due with the Secretary on 18 February

As I mentioned in 2018, a number of changes to our Club’s Constitution will be proposed at the AGM and you will be asked to vote on these changes. We are holding a meeting on Thursday 31 January at 1.30 pm at the Gallery of the Dunn Lewis Centre so you can hear about these proposed changes, ask questions and have your say. It would be good to hear your views and make any changes to the proposal if it’s agreed.

The proposed changes have recently been amended in response to members’ comments and further committee discussions. The revised changes are available on the welcome table and our website.

The new year also brings a new Shirley Smith Award. The Shirley Smith Award is presented to the member who submits the most popular Gardening advice or hint throughout the year. You need to submit an original hint that you have tried and tested in your garden to the Newsletter Editor. The editor will decide which hints will be published each month.

We all look forward to reading the hints and advice and trying them out to improve our gardens.

Members can be very proud that at the end of 2018 we agreed to support a student at Ulladulla High School with their studies. Zeb Hepburn was nominated by the Agriculture/Horticulture teacher as a suitable recipient of the Garden Club’s Award. The Club will pay his school fees and cost of excursions and equipment needed to complete his Year 12 studies. Zeb was selected because of his diligence and dedication to his studies and the support he provided to the school and the Agriculture department at the School.

The Club continues to fund the maintenance of the garden at Jindelara Cottage, the respite care facility in Ulladulla for young people with disability.

In closing I would like to mention the death of Garry Evans, the owner of the Harbour Bookshop. Gary was a good friend of the Garden Club as well as many other community organisations in the Ulladulla area Gary donated prizes and supported expos over the years. He contributed financially to the 2017 GCA Convention and sponsored a student in the Convention Student Program. The Garden Club expresses its sincere condolences to Gary’s family. His loss will be felt across our community.

The Nursery concentrates on borders hedging and screening plants. Mark enjoys giving gardening advice to new and beginning gardeners as he wants to encourage them into gardening.
