A THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY
How to Read The Bible
This is a starter video series that helps you read the Bible while understanding its unique design and literary devices.
https://youtu.be/Bw_2H6Gto3Y
While the Bible is one unified story, it cannot all be read in the same way. The How to Read the Bible series walks through each literary style found in the Bible, and how each uniquely contributes to the overall whole. Each literary style lives by its own rules and structure. First, let's see what the Bible actually is. How to Read the Bible: What is the Bible? This is episode 1 of an ongoing series that explores the origins, content, and purpose of the Bible. Here you'll be introduced to a condensed history of how the Bible came into existence, and the different forms of the Bible in the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christian traditions.

SUNDAY HYMN
LIFT HIGH THE CROSS (Hymn book 394)
Refrain: Lift high the cross The love of Christ proclaim, Till all the world adore His sacred name. Led on their way by this triumphant sign, the hosts of God in conquering ranks combine. Refrain: Each new disciples of the Crucified is called to bear the seal of him who died:
Saved by the cross whereon their Lord was slain the sons of Adam their lost home regain.
From north and south, from east and west they raise in growing harmony their song of praise.
O Lord once lifted on the glorious tree as thou hast promised, draw us unto thee.
Let every race and every language tell of him who saves our souls from death and hell.
From farthest regions let them homage bring and on his cross adore their Saviour King.
Set up thy throne, that earth’s despair may cease beneath the shadow of its healing peace.
For thy blest cross which doth for all atone creation’s praises rise before thy throne:
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adores his sacred name.

FUN’D RAISING
Dear All,
We have hardly had any funds coming in and that ain’t no fun! We still have huge bills to cover, Building insurance ( church and parish room, Gas and Electricity, Salaries to pay and to buy sanitizing cleaning materials for the Parish room and the church to keep everybody safe using the buildings and many more outgoings. For health and safety reasons we can’t hire out the Parish room to some groups under the pandemic guidelines.
All weddings have been postponed to 2021, we have had no funerals nor baptisms and all big services where we would otherwise get more collection money will not allow the number of people attending if at all take place. The summer fete is not happening either, nor concerts or garden tea parties or coffee mornings. Therefore I thought I do a couple of stalls from my drive to raise some funds with our summer hamper draw, car boot sale and Tombola I am also holding a cake stall. Please could you let me know if you could bake a cake for that. That will be on the 30 August.
Many Thanks, Silke

member of staff stays on hand throughout the visit. All visitors have
to sign a Self-Declaration form, wear a mask and have their
temperature taken before commencement of the visit. The visit
obviously cannot go ahead if the temperature is too high i.e. over

REALLY IMPORTANT TO READ
GUIDLINES It is a joy to start the return to holding services in the church building. However, precautions need to be taken to ensure this is as safe is as possible. If you are planning to attend a service in church, the PCC requests that you carefully read the following guidance beforehand: ! Only come to a service in church if you are feeling well, and there is no one in your home with Covid 19 symptoms 1. Wear a facemask: this is now a legal requirement unless you are exempt for medical reasons. You are requested to wear this when entering the church building and when standing and moving around. 2. Enter the church through the usual, west door, or through the south door at
the side. 3. If others arrive at the same time as you, check you are respecting 2m social
distancing as you queue. Please read any additional signs about H&S as you wait.
4. On entering the church, thoroughly use the hand sanitiser provided. 5. A Sides person will record your name and this will be kept for 21 days. Should
you become ill with Covid 19 symptoms, please inform the parish office, so that track and trace procedures can be alerted to ensure the safety of all.
6. You will be directed to sit at a wooden pew place marked with a green tick. Please bring your own cushion/blanket if required and take home with you.
7. instead of a collection plate being handed round, your contribution can be left in the plate as you leave. A contactless card reader is also available for donations.
8. Stay seated during the service. If you wish to speak to anyone near you afterwards, remain seated.
9. When you are ready to leave the church building both doors can be used:
take care to do this observing social distancing, and whilst in the churchyard.

HARD PLASTIC LIDS
Thank you to everyone who has continued to save clean hard plastic lids.....and all who will start now. Please either keep them until restrictions at church are lifted or drop them off to 41, Hanmer Way. You do not need to wait until you have a bag full. The lids go to Lush in Maidstone who have them recycled into children’s
playgrounds, or into containers for their products.

CHARITY COLLECTIONS
Our quarterly charities have had a similar problem to other charities. With our church closed for the whole of the Pancreatic Cancer UK quarter it became difficult to donate. Those of our congregation who have orange charity envelopes can now put them in the wall safe in church. Anyone else who wishes to support Pancreatic Cancer UK may still put their donation in an ordinary envelope and write the name of the charity on the outside and put it in the wall safe in church. This Sunday launches our new quarterly charity which is for Sobell Lodge. Do please follow the same procedure for donating. If you have any problems with delivering your donation to church please let Audrey Bullock know, tel. 891940, and she will help you. Thank you. Charity Committee.
