LOUISE BRICEA TRUE LOCAL CHAMPION FOR
STAPLEHURST
■ My priorities are your priorities
— working together to improve our
village
■ A summary of your responses to
our recent Residents’ Survey
■ Positive campaigning; why I will not
allow smears or personal attacks
If you would like to raise an issue of concern, or help my campaign, please contact me:
Louise Brice, 2 Further Field, Staplehurst, Kent, TN12 0SX. Tel: 01580 892141. Email: [email protected].
A message from Ann Widdecombe: Louise Brice is exactly the sort of person we need in local politics. She was born locally, educated at a local grammar school, and lives in Staplehurst with her husband and young family. Louise is fiercely independent, unafraid to speak her mind and will be a ferocious champion for the village and all its residents. I do hope you will vote for her on Thursday 24 July. Ann Widdecombe
A vote for LOUISE BRICE is a vote for our village and the issues that matter to us.
A TRUE LOCAL CHAMPION
LOUISE BRICE: MY PRIORITIES & COMMITMENT TO STAPLEHURST I will campaign for
speed restrictions —extending the 40mph zone at both ends of the village and enforcing the speed restrictions already in place.
I will campaign to enforce and extend parking restrictions to stop the inconsiderate parking that causes so much inconvenience on a daily basis.
I will campaign for a reliable, half hourly bus service. I want to put an end to villagers waiting for buses that never arrive, and for parents to have
I will work alongside support groups to improve the situation at the Medical Centre. We need to feel we have access to the services we have paid for, when we need them.

Dear Resident I would like to thank the many local residents who have been so kind to me and members of my campaign team. It has been good to meet and talk to so many people who are happy to chat about local issues. I am conscious that residents are already getting tired of the literature falling on their doormats and many have raised concerns about the personal and accusatory nature of some recent opposition leaflets. This is a great shame, as we need a sensible and mature discussion about the future, and this is not helped by mudslinging. I have instructed my campaign team that I will not tolerate personal attacks. I do not believe they work and more importantly they increase cynicism in politics at a time when we should be building trust. Many people have commented that some of my views are at odds with Maidstone’s Draft Local Plan and have asked why I am the standing as a Conservative. The answer is simple; I am a member of the Conservative Party and to stand as anything else would be dishonest. I am, however, fiercely independent and will be fearless in speaking out if elected.
I was born, bred and educated locally and I live in the village with my husband and our two young children. As a mum with a young family I have a strong understanding of what we could do better. Within this leaflet I have set out my vision for our village and the issues I will campaign on if elected. Although I live here, I am not part of the
political establishment. I will use my independence, energy and business experience to drive forward the many changes we need, whilst remembering that ultimately I will always be accountable to the people who elected me to champion their views. With best wishes Louise Brice Conservative Candidate
confidence that their children will get to and from school safely and on time.
I will fight for investment for an improved community centre, similar to those established in Headcorn and other local villages.
I will campaign for
investment to improve the look and feel of our village. From bins on the parade to the maintenance of grass verges in both the urban and rural areas of the village. I want us to feel proud of where we live.
Louise Brice: Campaigning last week
with Cllr John Perry and local Conservatives
Helen Grant MP writes Louise is an exceptional Borough Council
candidate. She has the skills and ability to fully represent the people of Staplehurst, and being local she understands all of the issues affecting the village. Louise has my full support and I now ask for yours by voting for Louise Brice on Thursday 24th July.
Cllr John Perry Louise is totally committed to Staplehurst. There are a number of pressing issues that will affect the future of our community and I know that Louise will fight for local residents to ensure your views are fully taken into account. I look forward to working with her on the Borough Council if elected.
From Eric Hotson
Louise is a bright, young mother with a supportive family and
is just what we need in Staplehurst. She has the time and
drive to support the residents of Staplehurst. Her literature is
fresh, frank and honest, unlike that of her opposition who only
portray doom and make wholly inaccurate statements. I hope
you will support Louise on the 24 July.
LISTENING AND RESPONDING TO THE PEOPLE OF STAPLEHURST
I want residents to feel safe walking the streets of
Staplehurst, and that their homes are protected. I will
work closely with the police, Kent County Council and the
Parish Council to monitor crime levels and any potential
effect the lack of street lighting may be having.
My previous leaflet dealt in depth with my concerns
about housing numbers, but one area I am particularly
keen to address is the provision of homes for retired
people. I have heard from many older residents who wish
to downsize but cannot do so due to lack of available
retirement properties.
.
I am keen to work with the Parish Council and
local churches and community groups to expand
the range of clubs and societies in the village,
particularly for retired people and teenagers.
There is much more that could be done with the
Councils and community working together.
I will work with the local community and
members of Speedwatch to investigate what
further measures we can take to control speeding traffic, I will encourage the sharing of
best practice with others such as the Tunbridge
Wells is Traffic Aware (TWiTA) campaign, which
has done so much to improve road safety awareness amongst school children.
I will campaign against fly-tipping, which is on the increase in certain rural roads and lay-bys, including the use of CCTV where necessary to identify and prosecute
offenders.
I pledge to work alongside the
community, the Borough,
County and Parish Councils
and always put the needs of
residents first. I will be a
committed and energetic
champion for Staplehurst,
bringing fresh thinking to
todays issues.
In a modern and e-driven
world, it is vital that every
resident has access to high-
speed internet. I will work
with County Councillor Eric
Hotson to support KCCs
“Make Kent Quicker”
campaign.
WHAT YOU TOLD US...
Louise Brice writes,
“I want local residents to feel their voices are being heard. We have started this process with our 2014
Residents’ Survey, and nearly 500 of you have responded. This week I have been personally calling on
those of you who have taken the time to complete our survey, to thank you for doing this. I feel strongly that
if you raise an issue with me, you know I will take the time to listen and respond.”
Here is a summary of what you told us:
Q. Which of the following best reflects your view on the proposed house building? I support the proposals as they stand 1%
I accept that people need homes, but the proposed numbers should be 23%
reduced so local infrastructure can cope
I would be more inclined to support new houses if I could see evidence of 62%
improved infrastructure before they are built
I oppose all new house building 14%
Q. There is a legal requirement for a certain percentage of new housing to be
low cost/for rent. Some councils give priority to people in need of housing who
have a local family connection. Would you support such a policy?
Yes 77% No 10% Unsure 13%
Q. On a scale of 0—10 (where 0 = very poor and
10 = outstanding) how do you rate Maidstone
Borough Council’s recycling service ?
Average score 8.1
Q. On a scale of 0—10 (where 0 = very poor and
10 = outstanding) how do you rate Maidstone
Borough Council’s refuse collection service ?
Average score 8.8
VOTE FOR LOUISE BRICE ON THURSDAY 24 JULY
“I am really impressed that
local Conservatives have given
me the chance to comment.”
“Three days after returning my survey, Mrs Brice called to discuss my concerns.... ”
“I have always been a Conservative, but voted
UKIP in May as I felt you took me for granted. I
am pleased that John Perry and Louise Brice are
making such an effort locally. You have regained
my trust. And my vote.”
“...most politicians tell us what they think, I am impressed that you have asked us what we think!”
If elected I will put party
politics aside and work with
all members of the
community, including our
Parish Council, to do what is
right for the people of
Staplehurst. There is much to
be celebrated locally and
working together we could
achieve so much.
