Academic Qualification
a) G.P. Rating (Deck): Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematic as subjects and with minimum 40% in English language either in 10th or 12th or Diploma/Degree Exam.
b) G.P. Rating (Engine): Pass in 2 Year ITI Course from Govt. approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English language at 10th or 12th or Diploma/Degree Exam.
c) G.P. Rating (Saloon): Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematics as subjects and with minimum 40% in English language either in 10th or 12th or Diploma/Degree Exam and; A Diploma Certificate in Catering Course.

Course is approved by many of the nationalized banks for educational loan. However, the candidates will apply for the
same at his own or to PNB, Mumbai. It is the responsibility of the candidates & their parents/guardians to comply with
all the loan procedure/documentation. Some of the documents like Sponsorship Letter/D.G. Shipping Approval will be
issued by us.

Physical Standards:
1. Candidates should be healthy and physically fit for sea service as per STCW 2010/MS Medical rules 2000 and all its amendment as applicable to seafarers.
2. Candidates will have to undergo a full medical check-‐up through our Panel Doctor approved by D.G.Shipping. (To know more about STCW2010 /MS Medical Rules 2000, kindly visit D. G. Shipping website “www.dgshipping.com")
Eyesight:
1. 6/6 in each eye without visual aids. 2. Normal colour vision. 3. Candidates will have to undergo a full eyesight test by a Company Medical Officer.
Minimum Height: 157 Cms. Minimum Weight: 48 Kg.

How to apply / Admission Procedure
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria should apply by downloading the application form from the website
www.geinstitute.com.
The Application should be submitted in hard copy in the format given on the website, with one recent passport size photograph pasted neatly in the right hand top corner.
A Demand Draft of Rs. 1500/-‐ (Rupees One Thousand five hundred Only) drawn on a Mumbai branch of any Nationalised Bank crossed “A/c Payee Only” and payable to “The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd., Mumbai” must be enclosed with the Application Form. Any Application received without the Demand Draft or for lesser amount will not be considered.
Applicant must write his name in CAPITALS & ‘(GP Rating course)’ on the reverse of the Demand Draft.
Duly completed Application Form along with the Demand Draft should be sent in a sealed envelope super scribed as “Application for GENERAL PURPOSE RATING” to Mr. Arun More, Manager -‐ Placement & Training, The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd., Ocean House, 134/A Dr. Annie Besant Road, Mumbai – 400 018 and should reach not later than 1800 Hrs on TO BE UPDATED SHORTLY.
Communication regarding the Interview date and time will be conveyed to the applicants by email. Candidates must ensure they provide their correct email-‐id and phone number/mobile number in the online application form as they will receive the Test Login details on the email id mentioned in the application form.

General Instructions:
1. The Applicants are responsible to ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria, regarding educational qualifications, MMPE test, age and eyesight.
2. Eligibility criteria for admission to the course are as per the guidelines issued of the Directorate General of
Shipping, Govt. of India and hence are not changeable. 3. If any false / incorrect information furnished by the Applicant is detected at any stage, his/her candidature will
not be considered and if selected, he/she will be removed from the training course and the entire course fees will be forfeited.
4. Course fees, Admission Fees, Examination fees once paid, will not be refunded, partly or otherwise, under any
circumstances. 5. As the Applications are processed by a computerised system, it is essential that the application be forwarded
strictly in accordance with the prescribed format.
6. Duly filled in Application Form should have one photograph pasted and Demand Draft attached. Originals/photocopies of certificates etc. should not be sent with the Application Form.
7. All fields in the Online Application Form should be filled with correct details and Application number should be noted by the candidate for all future reference.
8. Candidates should possess at least Twelve (12) recent passport size photographs (front view) and these
photographs only must be used on Application Form, Interview, Medical Examination, training etc. Any change of photograph will disqualify the Candidate.
9. Candidates, at the time of reporting to the institute if not at the time of Interview, will be required to produce
original copies of proof of age, Degree Certificate, HSC Certificate or equivalent, SSC Certificate or equivalent, where applicable from Govt. recognized board/universities.

11. All communication will be sent at the address given in the application. Request for change in address will not be

The Offer of admission for Pre-‐Sea Training and Shipboard Training by GES shall not be considered as guarantee of employment on completion of such training. However, in the event of GES offering employment after obtaining the MEO Class-‐IV Examination, the candidate shall agree to be bound to accept our employment and serve on our vessels for a period of five years.
